19) Destined to Meet

As Crimson drops me out of a piggyback in front of the town hall, I take off my hoodie and tie it around my waist, to look decently dressed. Waving goodbye, I push open the front door with both hands, and quickly tuck my shirt in and straighten my collar.

"Tyler, come in. The mayor arrived just a few minutes ago." Asgore walks up to me, in his royal robes, and ushers me into the room where I'm assuming the Mayor is waiting. Asgore tries to leave me behind, but I grab his cape before he can go.

"Wait, Asgore, aren't you coming with?" I exclaim in a worried tone.

"Tyler, no, you don't understand. She's here for you, and only you. You're on your own." He says guiltily, before walking down the corridor to his office. Biting my lip, I turn around to face the patient mayor. The mayor of Ruzila City, the city where I came from.

Sitting down on the opposite side of the desk, I examine her quietly for a minute, whilst she drinks something from a flask around her waist - probably coffee.

Her hair is slicked back on top, hair sticking out in a tidy black mess. She wears a white, uncreased shirt, with signs of coffee along the collar. Overall, she seems to take pride in her apperance to the people.

"Hello, Jesse Tyler McRey. I've been wanting to meet you for...a long time."
She sighs, leaning over the table to speak to me, supported by her right arm.

"...Do I know you?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. Nobody knows my full name besides Webdings and Guidea.

...Unless they found my birth certificate.

The mayor looks up at me with...sadness in her eyes.
"You really don't remember me...ha..."

"...What do you mean by that, Miss Mayor?" I console, resting a hand on her shoulder.

"...Let's start off from the beginning. What is your name?" She averts quickly, going back to her somewhat serious attitude.

"It's just Tyler Dreemurr, please. And you?" I chirp, seeing her strong facade weaken slightly.

".....Helena." She mumbles, taking another sip from her coffee.

"That's a nice name. So what did you want to see me about?"

"...Your human family." Helena admits, as I blink in shock.

"My...mom? Is that it? Do you... know where she went?" I gasp in curiousity, but stop as I see the way she stares at me. Her gaze is...sincere. Like...she's trying to reach out at me.

"As I said, my name is Helena. However..." She says, with a hint of grief in her tone of voice.

"...However?"

"My full name..." Helena starts, before mumbling something under her breath.

"Huh? I didn't quite catch that."

"MY FULL NAME IS HELENA DAWN MCREY."

With this, I slide back in my seat in utter shock. She looks at me again with utter sincerity.

"...McRey. You're...my family...?" I gasp, earning a silent nod from the distant woman. Then...

She walks around the table, and pulls me into a tight hug. Confused, I feel her sob, slowly hugging her back. She smells oddly familiar, and...I start to feel a bit of nostalgia.

Why am I feeling this way? She's a complete stranger to me...

...No..It...can't be...can it..?

"...M-mom...?"

Slowly, I feel her nod, as she kneels down to my level. I stare at her in slight disbelief.

"That's right, Jesse. I'm your mother. Look...Look how much you've grown! I'm...so...happy..." She sobs happily, pulling me into a tight hug again.

I...would question her...but...

...it truly feels like...

"I...I've been searching for you...for the past 2 years...I...I don't know what to say..." I gasp, confused.

I should be happy. I've been waiting my whole life for this.

But...why now?

"How...How did you find me?" I sniffle, as she lets go of me. She smiles down at me, motherly love shining in her eyes.

"I've worried about you since you fell down that mountain. Everybody, even Cyn- my...secetaries was convinced you were dead! But now? You don't have to hide anymore, Tyler! We can be a happy family-"

"-Along with my monster friends?" I interrupt, now glancing at her in question.

"...Well yes, of course your monster friends can come too! How about you introduce them to me?" She chirps, spontaneously standing up.

"Oh! Yeah, that's a great idea, Mom!" I reply gleefully, taking her hand and guiding her to Asgore, first.

"Hi Dad!" I beam, opening the door to see the jovial goat monster hard at work. He simply gives me a backhand wave. Mom looks down at me weirdly.

"Oh, sorry! This is Asgore. I treat him like my dad, you see. He looks scary, but inside, he's just a big fluffy pushover. He's like you, in a way, Mom. I don't see him much because of his work as Mayor." I explain passionately, my mom listening intently all the while, then nodding in understanding.

"C'mon, c'mon! I'll show you my adoptive sister, too! Her name is Guidea, and- it doesn't matter, you'll see!" I chirp excitedly, dragging Mom once again into the outside world. We stop at the entrance to town.

"This is Monster Town...Although I've heard some sort of Barrier-like spell surrounds it. It's basically to keep out any dangerous people. It's really amazing, watch!" I giggle, pulling my pen knife out of my pocket. Before my mom can gasp, I simply say "Self defence reasons."

Carefully, I prod thin air with the knife, trying to make contact with the barrier. Suddenly, the tip if the blade catches fire, showing a small, white crack in the middle of the sky. It's unnoticeable if you're not purposely looking for it. Putting out the small fire, my mom claps proudly.

"Wait...What if it deems me 'bad'? Will...that happen to me...?" She suddenly gulps, taking a cautious step backwards.

"Hey! It's okay! I carry this knife with me everywhere, and the barrier hasn't set me on fire!" I laugh, pushing her into the barrier playfully. I see the forcefield turn a light navy, then allow her to pass. I follow suit, the barrier simply letting me through as usual.

A few minutes after that ordeal, and we reach my house. The smell of freshy baked pasta floats out of the door as I push it open. Mom ducks under the door to fit inside, and I giggle slightly.

"Guid! I'm home! And I brought a guest, do you mind?" I call, before recieving a reply a few seconds later.

"Hello Tyler! And that's perfect! I made too much pasta anyway." She responds in her usual sweet and caring voice. Whilst we wait, I sit down next to Mom.

"So, uhm....I've been meaning to ask. If you're my Mom, where's Dad?" I ask, as Mom suddenly starts to stare at the wall, before answering softly.

"Your father...was not a very nice man. He left me before you were born."

I simply respond with a mouthed 'Oh', before Guidea arrives with dinner.

"Oh! Hello! Are you Tyler's guest?" Guidea asks polietely to Mom. She seems taken aback at monster's appearance, but then smiles.

"Yes, I am. Helena. What is your name, little monster?" She chimes, outstretching an arm for Guid to shake. She quickly places the meals on the dining table, then shakes back, chirping, "Guidea. Nice to meet you."

--------------

As I stretch my arms out to yawn, I see Mom check her watch.
"Oh no! Is it really that time already?" She gasps, before turning towards me in a downcast manner.

"I'm sorry, Tyler, but I must be going now. I have lots of work to do tomorrow. I promise I'll visit again, okay?" She beams, planting a kiss on my forehead. As she walks up towards the door to leave, I gasp.

"Ah! One more thing!"

"Hm?" Mom replies, briefcase in hand.

"Love you Mom!" I smile. She simply laughs, and exits through the door, leaving it ajar slightly to say, "See you soon!"
