16) The Question Game

31st December

A few months later, and Christmas has already come and gone. Frankly, it was hilarious seeing Webdings adjust to the holiday season after so long in the void.

One minute, he would be singing along to Christmas tunes off-key, and the next, he would be simply stuffing a plastic bag full of wrapping paper, probably so he could use it for a crazy experiment later.

Flowey seems to be showing more compassion by the minute, especially after the festive season. Perhaps Asriel has some happy memories about this time of year.

---

"Tyler! Wake up, breakfast is ready!" Flowey yells upstairs, droning slightly. I simply grin, and stretch my arms out.

New Years' Eve.

A whole year has nearly passed since monsters were freed from the underground.

...And nearly a year since Luke...

Besides from that, I traipse downstairs to be greeted by the smell of fried eggs.

Grabbing my plate of egg, I bring it into the living room. Unfortunately, the TV broke last week, so I sit and stare at the blank wall where it used to be whilst eating.

---
[Webdings' POV]

"Hello Tyler," I greet as I walk through the door, a plate of eggs in my hand, "mind if I intrude?"

The child looks up sharply in surprise, but simply responds with a innocent grin.

Sitting down on the sofa arm, I examine the child for a second.

They definitely look a lot healthier then they did a few months ago. I guess I really did help them get over their grief, then.

Although I'm still not certain what they were grieving about.

"Impact and Castellar are in the kitchen helping your sister, if you're curious." I strike up, and they respond with a simple giggle, as they finish their food.

---
[Tyler's POV]

"Webdings? Can we...play a game?" I ask politely, being given a whimsical look in response from him.

"What kind of game?" He grins suspiciously.

"A question game! You ask me a question I have to answer, but you have to work out if I'm lying or not!!" I remark cheerily.

"Okay then...who will go first?" Webdings questions, as I respond by pointing towards him.

"Okay...Are you a boy or a girl?" He asks jokingly.

"I'm a Tyler." I answer cockily, backing away slightly in defence.

"That's not a proper answer!" Webdings frowns, as I stick my tongue out at him mockingly.

"Okay, okay....Girl." I laugh, as he tries to see through my 'lies'.

"Is that true?"

"...Partially...?" I respond, giggling awkwardly.

"What is going on in here?" Guidea pouts jokingly as she walks into the room. Webdings gives a short bow, before shrugging it off into a wave frantically. Guidea simply laughs his behaviour off along with me.

"Hey sis! And we're playing a question game! You wanna join?" I chirp, my sister shrugging in response, which I assume is a yes, as she sits down next to me.

"That reminds me...It's my turn to ask a question!" I grin maliciously, thinking of a question for one of them.

"Guid!" I point, as she retreats backwards slightly.

"Me?" She exclaims in surprise.

"Okay, I'm asking you a question! Remember, you can always lie. But if I guess that you're lying, you have to tell the truth!" I giggle, Guidea nodding in understanding.

"So what is it?" She questions innocently.

I giggle, before sputtering out my question.

"Who do you have a crush on?"

Guidea suddenly starts blushing wildly, as she rushes to hide her face. Webdings turns around, and giggles slightly at the Monster Princess's sorry state.

"No-one...!" She squeals into the seat cushion.

"Lie! Who do you have a crush on?" I point at her, laughing all the while.

The room slowly turns quiet.

"..."

"Uh, Guid? Are you okay?" I speak up, suddenly worried about her.

"I'm worried about you." Webdings consoles, getting up to get closer to her.

"Hi worried about you." She pipes up, as she rises to a sitting position once more.

"...I'm Guidea!" She giggles half-heartedly, before calming down sombrely.

"...So...Are you going to answer the question?" I ask politely, as she nods in response.

"...Let's just say the person in question is inside the house right now." She eludes mysteriously, before she's interrupted by the living room door opening once more.

"Mind if we join? Castellar's getting restless." Impact winks, earning a somewhat discrete blush from Guidea.

"WHAT? I'M NOT RESTLESS! I DON'T NEED TO REST AT ALL!" Castellar denies, earning a small chuckle from Webdings. The revenant siblings walk over to the opposite side of the room, sitting against the wall and looking up at us.

"...No. It can't be... Can it?" I gasp, as the realisation hits me. I glance over at Webdings for some confirmation. He simply winks, as I go over to whisper in my sisters' ear.

"No way. Is it Impact?" I guess, as she responds with a simple squeal of embarrassment. Looking over at Impact, who is now playing on his 3DS, I sigh slightly.

"Of course it had to be Impact. But... Why him?" I implore upon her.

"I don't know...He likes puns? And...he's kinda cute...and...he was the first friend I ever made...and he always....ugh, whatever, you get it!" She whispers back, half dying from the embarrassment.

She coughs, before speaking up again, getting the attention of all in the room. "Webdings! I'll ask you a question!"

He looks over, and simply chuckles lightly.

"What?"

"When we first talked to each other, why did you act like you already knew me?"

I stop for a moment as I realise. Nobody but me, him, and Impact know that Webdings was in the Void. Nobody else knows that he was erased from existence.

Webdings goes silent.

"It may sound strange, but...when I first met you, it felt like...I was meeting an old friend for the first time." She adds, before realising what it might be.

"Do...you have reset powers too?"

Webdings shakes his head, and lays back in thought.

"It is because I do know you. Or at least, I did."

"That's the truth, right?" Guidea responds curiously.

"Yes."

"...Would you care to elaborate on your answer...?" She implores, being given a nod as a response.

"Yeah, I'm curious too..." I agree, looking at Impact to find he and Castellar have dosed off.

"Have you heard the rumours about how I was erased from existence, Tyler?" He starts, as I recall the strange scenario that happened inside the CORE.

"Yeah...there was this strange monochrome cat with a post-it note for a face... I remember she said something about you, too. But, I didn't know it was you specifically..."

I could understand why Sam works so hard. After all, the last Royal Scientist, Doctor Webdings? He was an act to follow! However, one day, he fell into his own creation and was shattered across time and space...

"She said something about you being shattered across time and space, after falling into your own creation? And then, she said 'It's rude to talk about someone who's listening'. What did that mean?"

Webdings holds up a hand to signal for me to be quiet, as he explains.

"I believe you are referring to one of my followers. Her name is...or rather, was, Aura. She is quite the riddle-some one, isn't she?"  He chuckles softly.

"Do you remember what Impact said about me that one time?"  He continues, still spoon feeding me puzzle pieces one by one.

"Huh..."

One day, he began to doubt all his good work. He must of thought: 'They don't need me anymore. I'm just ruining their lives.' Then, he jumped into the void, erasing himself from existence.

"Oh yeah! Impact said something about how...you....jumped..." I stop myself, realising it may be a touchy subject for him.

"...you killed yourself...? But, e-evidently, you're alive right now?" Guidea mumbles, unsure of what to say.

"YES...YOU SEE, WHEN I FELL INTO THE CORE, I WAS PLACED IN THE PLACE WHERE NON-EXISTENT THINGS ARE LEFT TO ROT. THE VOID..." He explains sadly, switching his font back to his regular pattern.

"The CORE...I remember...I heard that nobody could remember who built it, not even Sam. They said it may have been the last Royal Scientist, but no-one knew who they were..." I speculate, as the realisation hits.

"Oh! So you built the CORE! That's what it meant by 'he fell into his own creation'." I chirp, Webdings nodding to confirm.

"Yes...anyway, enough questions for me. I think I should get my children back into bed. It is rather early in the morning." He chuckles, changing the conversation topic.

"I'm honestly surprised. For the past year, I haven't seen Castellar even take a nap!" I reply, looking down at the two siblings. Impact is leaning against Castellar's shoulder, and her head is hanging down. It's really cute.

As Webdings leaves, with his sleeping children being supported on his shoulder, Guidea simply sighs.

"What a strange, strange individual."

I shuffle awkwardly, knowing exactly what question she's going to ask me.

"How did Webdings get out of the void, then...?"

I sigh, and start to explain.

"Remember that accident I had that turned me into a wizard? I wasn't really in a fight. I was helping Impact out with his machine. He's been working on it for a while, you see, all so he could bring his father back from the void. And it worked, however I needed to sacrifice some of my determination. Hence why, somehow, I'm a wizard now."

Guidea simply nods in understanding, and gives a quiet 'Oh'.

"Well, we're all happy now, aren't we? We're all alive."

I sigh, and smile weakly.

"Unfortunately, not everybody..." I mumble under my breath.
