Chrono Stone: The Soccer Ban

Three months had passed since the Holy Road, and Tenma had been travelling around the country, teaching children from all over to play soccer as part of Gouenji's education program.

However, things took a turn for the worst when soccer began to disappear from Raimon. Tenma had just managed to get through with Fei Rune and Clark Wonderbot, the latter referring to himself as Wondeba. They had come from 200 years in the future to fight against El Dorado, a group of people who were responsible for the whole ordeal.

With their help, Tenma was brought into the past to fight alongside 13-year-old Endou Mamoru, as well as a healthy Tsurugi Yuuichi. Their fight was against Protocol Omega, a soccer team led by a boy named Alpha, who had the ability to turn his keshin into armor. Yuuichi and Tenma both managed to do the same, and they won.

However, they soon found out that, despite their win guaranteeing the formation of the soccer club, Tsurugi Kyousuke's past had been altered. Yuuichi convinced them that their current timeline is a lie, and rallied their help to bring soccer back to his younger brother.

And they did just that.

"Tsurugi!"

He ducked away from the tackle and raised an eyebrow at the two brunettes. "What are you doing?"

"N-No, I'm just glad you're here..." Whether Tenma's stuttering was because he was nervous or because he hurt his head that badly, he couldn't tell.

Nevertheless, "It's the soccer club. Of course I'm here."

"Yeah!" His eyes shone in delight, so much that he couldn't help but give his own smile. "Um... Hey! How is Yuuichi-san doing?"

Well, he didn't expect that. "Oh, he's recovering well. His rehab is going great."

"I see..."

Thank you.

But it was exactly the next day that even graver news arrived. Principal Hirai came in and told them that soccer had been banned. They came to the conclusion that it was due to a friendly match between America and Japan from a month before, except that nothing about that match was friendly. They soon found out that Protocol Omega had been on the field and made some rough plays in the Japan representatives' stead.

After a brief lesson in space-time with Professor Crossword Aruno, they used Amagi's ticket to jump back to that time and did their best to fight, but Tenma had lost the ability to use Keshin Armed. Raimon Eleven was beaten to the ground, and the new Protocol Omega captain, Beta, replaced their love of soccer with hate. She had also imprisoned their coach in another dimension. When they returned to their own time, only Tenma, Tsurugi, Shindou, Shinsuke, and Nishiki remained.

"Our clubroom..." Tenma frowned when he spotted the 'no soccer' sign in front of their door. "We can't go in..."

"Because of the soccer ban." Shinsuke eyed a box of flat soccer balls. On the side, 'trash' was clearly labeled on it. "We couldn't change history back to the way it was."

"Even Sangoku-san and the others are gone..." Shindou added. "We're the only members left..."

"Tenma! Everyone!"

"Miss Otonashi!" Haruna's steps were heavy as she stared down at the box. "What would Coach Endou have said to all of this if he were still alive?"

That surprised them. They tore the sign off and ushered their counselor into the club room.

"No way! Coach Endou is dead?!"

"That can't be right!"

"What do you mean? We all went to his funeral..." Haruna opened her laptop and an article appeared on the screen behind her. 'Endou Mamoru Dies Instantly in a Car Crash.'

"No way..."

"It happened a month ago, on the day of the friendly between Japan and America."

"That's a lie! Coach Endou is still alive!"

"Tenma..." She couldn't bring herself to argue against those determined eyes. "Coach Endou... is alive..." They were all giving her the same look. "He's alive?"

"Yes!"

She closed her laptop with a smile. "Okay! If that's what you say, I believe you!"

"Miss Otonashi." Fei held his hand up as he spoke. "Do you know who I am?"

"Yes! Fei and Wondeba, right? From the future."

"You still remember them?"

"It looks like only events involving Coach Endou's life have been rewritten."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"History adjusted itself to be consistent with the situation." Wandaba explained. "It wrote off Endou Mamoru as dead to explain his disappearance."

"Adjusted to the situation..." Aoi repeated, earning a nod from Akane.

Midori sighed. "No matter how many times they explain,"

"I still don't get it." Nishiki agreed.

But Haruna was satisfied. "I see... Coach Endou is still alive... Thank goodness..."

"But maybe not for long." Spoke too soon. "If we don't do something soon, this timeline will grow fixed. His death will become a reality." Fei stated.

"Can't we just change history again?" Shinsuke asked.

"It's very hard to remodify a timeline after it's already been changed once."

"No way..."

"The only way to end all of this is by defeating Protocol Omega!" They all nodded at Fei's words.

"In order to rescue Coach Endou..."

"We have to correct history."

"To bring back Sangoku-san and the others as well."

Haruna's head perked up at that. "Sangoku and the others?" Tenma nodded as he explained it all quickly. "They got brainwashed into hating soccer?!"

Shindou nodded. "Yes. According to Professor Aruno, if we beat Protocol Omega, we may find a clue to changing them back."

"The soccer ban... Coach Endou... Sangoku and the others... Why are they doing this?"

"We have to beat them!" Tenma curled up his fists. "We have to beat Protocol Omega. To do that, we have to get stronger!"

"And to do that, Keshin Armed will be crucial." Wandaba added. "A Keshin Armed that must be gained through effort instead of relying on the mutual resonance of space-time."

Fei nodded. "Immediately after a timeline is meddled with, multiple identities of Tenma coexisted within parallel worlds. These multiple Tenmas resonated with each other, raising his power. But now that the amplitudes involving Raimon Junior High have settled down, the parallel worlds have disappeared and their mutual resonance isn't taking place."

"No matter how many times they explain..."

"I still don't get it!"

"As I mentioned before, the only way to achieve the real Keshin Armed is by raising your own power."

"I'll learn Keshin Armed no matter what." Tenma stated. "Then we'll fight Protocol Omega and win!"

"Will we be able to learn Keshin Armed too?" Shinsuke asked.

"That, I don't know. But the more of you that are able to use it, the greater our chances of winning."

Shindou's eyes narrowed. "In any case, we have to try."

"Yes!" Tenma pumped his fists. "Let's take back soccer and our real history!"

"Will we be able to with just us?"

"We have to do it! We're the only ones who know that this timeline is wrong!"

"That's how it is."

"Everyone here will combine our strengths to win!"

"Shinsuke!" Tenma held out his fist at the smaller boy. "Let's train!"

He returned it in kind. "Yeah!"

Though finding a place to do so proved to be much more of a challenge than they thought. They tried the school grounds, the riverbank, and every soccer ground they could find in town, but all had the same signs as the front of their clubroom.

That was when Haruna's phone beeped. "An email... from Gouenji-san?!"

As he asked, they all headed for the steel tower with the caravan. They found him standing by the rails, turned to them as they hopped out of the car one by one.

"It's been a while, Tenma, Everyone."

"Gouenji-san."

"So, you're the only ones who've come."

Gouenji-san... He put his entire life on hold to save soccer, but even Gouenji-san must be...

The blonde turned to the two new faces. Fei made the effort to cover Wondeba, and Haruna tried to cover Fei. They had a back and forth about whether or not to tell him about the situation, but there appears to be no need.

"There's no other reason for why I've called you here. Endou..." Tenma seemed ready to argue with him. He chose his words carefully. "I want to help you rescue Endou."

"Eh―"

"We can't allow El Dorado to meddle with history any more than they already have."

Fei ran out of his hiding spot. "You know about El Dorado?!" He nodded. "Why haven't you been affected by the changes they made?!"

He pulled on his right sleeve. "Quite possibly because of this bracelet."

"The Time Bracelet?"

"It's the same one that Yuuichi-san had." Tenma muttered.

Tsurugi turned to him. "Nii-san?" He didn't get his answer as they got interrupted.

"It does indeed appear to be the Time Bracelet."

"You must be Professor Aruno." Gouenji seemed to be perfectly informed about the man so as not to have been surprised by his sudden appearance.

He nodded. "The Time Bracelet allows its bearer to travel through time, so it also acts as a safeguard against the effects of time paradoxes."

"Why do you have it?" Fei asked.

"Supporter X sent it to me directly, along with a strange message."

"Supporter X?"

"Back when I was Fifth Sector's Holy Emperor, Senguuji Daigo received a majority of his backing from Supporter X... In order to discover children who wielded the power of the new generation. They're called Second Stage Children." His eyes landed on a certain brunette. "Tenma, you were one of its candidates."

"M-Me?"

"I know nothing about Supporter X, but it was Supporter X who sent me this bracelet along with a message."

"What was the message?" Shindou asked.

He pressed a button in reply. "Wear this bracelet at all times. By doing so, you will save soccer."

"Save soccer..." Tenma repeated. "Does this Supporter X not want soccer to be taken away, just like us?"

"I'm not sure. But it has shown me without any doubt that you are fighting to bring soccer back." The tiny screen expanded and showed them footage of their match against Protocol Omega 2.0. "That's why I've come here. To help you guys."

"I see." Professor Aruno spoke up. "Even in our time, only a rare few are able to get their hands on the Time Bracelet. This Supporter X must unmistakably be from the future, like us."

"But why do this?" Shindou continued to ask. "Would it have something to do with the Second Stage Children?"

"I don't know."

"For now, we must focus on beating Protocol Omega and saving Endou. And then, we'll take back soccer."

Tenma frowned. "We'd like to do that, but..."

"It's okay. There's still one place in the world where you can play soccer."

"Where?"

The blonde smirked. "Use God Eden."

"God Eden?"

"What sort of place is that?" Wandaba asked.

"It was a special training establishment where Fifth Sector selected children with the potential to become the ultimate players."

"'Was'?"

"God Eden was shut down after its match with Raimon's soccer club." He smiled. "You can still play soccer there."

"That's great!" Tenma turned to the rest of his friends. "Let's go there now!"

"Wait."

"Eh―"

"Actually, I need to ask you a favor." Gouenji's face turned serious once more. "Tenma, you're not the only candidate of the new generation. There's someone else, someone with abilities normal humans don't have in our time."

The brunette blinked. "Could that be... Are you talking about Kimiko?"

He nodded. "Right."

"Who's Kimiko?" Shinsuke asked.

"Eh? Shinsuke, you don't know? She's Gouenji-san's cousin, and..." Tenma turned to the blue haired boy beside him. "Tsurugi's childhood friend, right?"

Tsurugi blinked. "How do you know her?"

"Eh? What do you mean 'how'? On our first day of school, she was with you while you raided Raimon!"

"That's impossible." Tenma was about to argue, when the next few words hit him hard. "She hates soccer."
