Hostages

Alfred glanced over at the seat next to him where Percy was tied, still limp from the hit to the head. At least the blood was slowing down now. He hadn't stirred at all, and having his head hanging like that surely would not help, only make things worse.

"Perseus, Percy lad, can you hear me?"Alfred asked worriedly.

The boy didn't even twitch, and Riddler let out a cackling laugh.

" He'll be out like a light for a while, old man, he got hit in the he'd with a shovel!" Riddler cackled gleefully.

Alfred glared furiously at the Riddler, wishing he was younger and strong enough to beat that man with all he had.

" Riddle me this, old man, What has a neck but no head?" The Riddler asked brightly.

" A bottle," Alfred answered angrily.

" Bet that kid wishes he had no head when he wakes up!" Riddler sneered.

Alfred clenched his bound fists, but perked up when a henchman raced in to the room.

" Ten of my men are gone! They're just gone!" The goon panted breathlessly.

Riddler stood up from his chair, clearly angry.

" The bat," Riddler hissed.

He ran his hands through his hair in anger, before his eyes settled on the prone form of Percy.

" The old man will struggle. Bring the boy to the roof, we will see what the Batman does then," Riddler growled, pointing to the limp form of Perseus.

" No! Leave the boy!" Alfred yelled quickly, hoping Bruce would hear him.

The Riddler walked right past him, and slung the tied up boy over his shoulder easily. He and his goons exited the room, leaving Alfred unguarded. Not two minutes later, Batman appeared behind him.

" Alfred, are you okay?" He asked in concern.

Alfred nodded and sighed in relief when his ropes were cut.

" They have Perseus on the roof, he's hurt, mater Batman," Alfred hissed.

Batman grumbled something inaudible and took off to find Percy.

Batman crept out on to the roof, and surveyed the situation. Riddler stood a the edge of the sloping roof, Percy limp in his grasp. He was in the perfect placate throw Percy off the roof if need be. His thugs stood in a rough semicircle behind him and the Riddler smirked confidently.

With two well placed Batarangs that sent two of the remaining goons crying out in pain and incapacitated, Batman announced his presence.

" Ah Batman, welcome to the party," Riddler cackled, shifting Perl closer to the edge of the roof.

With that shift, Batman saw Percy's sea green eyes blink open in confusion.

In a moment, his young body had frozen when he noted that he was clutched in the grasp of the Riddler, and about to be thrown off a roof. His ragged breathing could be heard by everyone on the roof, and his wide eyes showed absolute terror. Just as soon as he'd awoken, his eyes rolled up in his head and he went limp in Riddler's grasp again.

" What will you do Batman? Because the kid was terrified," Riddler dared, eyes sparking happily.

Batman didn't bother replying, and he leapt forward, knocking out two more goons as he waded towards the Riddler. The man grinned brightly before dropping Percy's unconscious body off of the roof.

In one swift movement, Batman released a knock out gas pellet right near the Riddler and leapt off the roof after Percy.

The wind caused his cape to full out, and aimed his body to catch up with Percy's. With his arms outstretched he grabbed hold of the boy, and turned, firing his grabble gun to latch around one of the terraces above them.

With a harsh jolt the line went taught, and Batman was left dangling in the air, holding Percy close. It only took a moment for him to swing Percy's body on to terrace where he'd be safe while Batman finished the fight.

He climbed up the line and on to the terrace, where it was a simple matter to climb back to the roof, and survey the damage his knock out gas had wreaked. It had done more than he'd anticipated, and he saw that the six goons and the Riddler were all peacefully drugged up on the roof.

With a swift call to Commissioner Gordon, all things were taken care of, and Bruce could change and care for his new employee.
