Bonding Days part 2

A long, wickedly sharp arrow curved gracefully through the air before hitting its intended target with a loud THUNK!

Bruce examined the target, surprised to see the arrow embedded directly in the bullseye.

" Did I get it?" Called a young voice from across the yard.

" You sure did, straight in the bullseye!" Bruce called back.

Will jogged across the yard and stood in front of the target with Bruce, looking at his handy-work himself.

" You've got quite an aim there, Will," Bruce commented.

" Yeah, before my dad died he taught me to shoot. He was an archery instructor," Explained Will a little sheepishly, blushing slightly.

" Well he was a good one. What was he like?" Bruce murmured.

Will's gaze went wistful as he remembered his parents, the two most amazing people in the world. The pain of their loss was just as fresh as it was years ago upon their death. He put down his bow, as he and Bruce sat down on the lush lawns of the Manor.

" My dad's name was Halt O'Carrick. His family was rich and influential but he didn't like the high life, and as soon as he could get away from them he did. He started an archery school on the edge of the woods where he taught young people how to shoot like professionals. He did a lot of work with teaching the kids from the local orphanage how to shoot. Then he met my mum, Pauline. She worked for the government, giving speeches and helping to forge peace treaties with other countries until she met my dad. They were the best parents I could ever ask for, even though people thought my dad was gruff and mean, he never was to me or mum. To us he was perfect," Will reminisced, a peaceful calm washing over him as he talked.

" They both sound like they were amazing people," Bruce soothed, meaning every word.

Bruce Wayne was many things, but one thing he wasn't was a gymnast. He had tried to learn flips and such of his ' night job ' as the dark knight, but he'd never found himself to have any flare for gymnastics at all.

But he persisted in trying, and so his gym was equipped with a lot of gear. When he'd searched for Richard that morning, trying to find him so they could commence their day, he'd found he boy on the gymnastics gear.

The boy was currently doing a series of handsprings and intricate contortions atop the high balance beam set in the corner of the gym. Bruce couldn't help marveling at the fact the boy was able to move his body in such ways, he couldn't dream that his bulky, muscular form could ever twist in that way. Most normal people couldn't twist like that either. And if Richard kept going he'd probably make himself in to a human pretzel.

" Oh, hi!" The boy yelped upon noticing Bruce's arrival.

He backflipped off of the beam, landing perfectly, before turning to address Bruce properly.

" Those were some moves you had going on there," Bruce commented.

Richard blushed slightly, and ran a hand through his dark, messy hair.

" Yeah, well my family and I were trapeze artists for Haly's circus so I learnt from a young age," he confessed.

" Could you show me some of those moves again?" Bruce asked, eliciting a smile from the boy.

" Sure thing,"

Percy Jackson was a very good swimmer.

He far outstripped Bruce in swimming speed and talent, and while the billionaire wasn't too shabby, he couldn't chalk up against the teenager. Percy seemed to flourish in the water, letting all his troubles go free, and Bruce found himself liking this day more and more and it continued. And the fact that the pool was nice and cool during an unprecedented Gotham heat wave that had rolled in overnight, it was the perfect activity for the day.

" You like the water?" Bruce asked.

" I sure do! Always have...my mum said it was because my father was a sailor and the sea was in my blood. Guess she was right," Percy chuckled as he swam around slowly.

" She was certainly correct. I took Hal out sailing for our day and he seemed to like the ocean as well, no wonder he practically worships you," Bruce chuckled.

" Oh Hal would have loved that! Let me guess, Jason wanted to do laser tag, Nico played mythomagic and trumped you with his Hades card, Will shot some stuff with his wicked archery skills, and Richard showed off his world class contortionism and gymnastics," Percy guessed, an eyebrow raised.

Bruce stared at him for a few seconds, surprised at how correct he'd gotten everything.

" That was a creepy good guess," Bruce intoned.

" Actually they all told me when they came home, all of them were totally fired up about it and wouldn't stop telling me all about their days with you," Percy laughed.

Bruce smirked playfully at him, and sent a splash of water his way. With an indignant splutter, their splash war to end all splash wars begun.
