Chapter 11

Percy realized, as his foot bounced up and down uncontrollably, that he was worried about Harry, even though Harry didn't like him at all. He had heard all the stuff about Harry being the chosen one and some old guy out to get him, Percy had been in the kids shoes over and over again, but it didn't seem to register until now. He had stopped trying to get the Gryffindor to like him, and settled with caring from afar. A viable skill he learned from being a demigod.

They were sitting on bleachers in front of a giant hedge maze. The band was playing down below, a song that he had just figured out was the Hogwarts theme song. Liv was sitting next to him talking to a friend on her other side. Neither of them had made things official, but people refrained from asking either one of them out. After a moment, Liv stopped talking. Percy followed Liv's line of sight to see colored flashes coming up from within the maze.

Percy felt dread knotting up in his stomach. He hadn't been in a situation like the one Harry was facing, but he knew what it felt like to be fighting for his life. Now, it wasn't something Percy had considered with the Tri-wizard Tournament, but the stories he had heard of Harry now posed the theory that something could happen.

The sky darkened, and everyone wondered if that was due to a spell one of the contestants could have cast, of if something ominous was about to happen. The band stopped playing and Percy started to naw on his fingernails. It was a nasty habit that ADHD kids tended to develop. He was on his fourth finger when Liv noticed.

"Percy, stop doing that. You're going to ruin your nail beds and possibly make them grow in wrong." Liv scolded him. Percy looked at the ground.

"I can't help it." He muttered. Suddenly, time stopped. Percy whipped his head up and looked at Liv with eyes as wide as saucers. Liv's own expression mirrored his. Percy took the chance to kiss Liv like his life depended on it. And to his relief, Liv melted into him, gripping the front of his sweatshirt tightly.

"D-does this mean you can speak again?" Liv asked a bit dazed. Percy cocked his head. Did it? He hadn't seen Nico or Will since that night in the common room long ago, and every time he saw Liv, his heart and stomach did a gymnastics routine in sync.

"I think so." He said with a smile. Liv flung her arms around him and pulled him into a tight hug. Percy smiled into the crook of her neck, thinking about all the things he wanted to say to her as well as the return of his sarcasm. Liv pulled back and wrinkled her nose.

"You have an accent." She stated.

"So do you." Percy said back.

"Yes but yours isn't the kind of American accent I hear on television."

"Well, I'm from the upper east side of Manhattan, I have a New York drawl. As my friends-er-people I used to know from California told me." He said scratching the back of his head.

"Oh my gosh look!" Someone screamed. Percy and Liv turned there attention to two boys who had appeared at the mouth of the maze. Only one of them was moving.
