Chapter 1 ~ Crystal

"Run it again! And don't trip up this time!" I heard Sensai yell at Riley. Riley grumbled under his breath, a few cuss words. I closed my eyes as i heard the thwap that came soon after. I opened my eyes and continued to sweep the cold concrete floor. I looked up as Riley walked by, his arms were sporting new bruises. I set the broom aside and walked to his side to see if he had also earned a few new cuts too. Sensai had decided to teach Riley specifically for sword training. Jack was learning to master the numb-chucks. Rachel was being taught the ways of stealth, her partner in crime was Elena. I was learning to use my hands instead of a weapon. Every piece of wood or metal that touched my hands felt wrong or made me freeze up. I snapped back to my senses when Riley plopped on our, only, rickety yellow couch. I handed him his black leather jacket and he slipped it on. The leather fit him well and easily glided over his well defined muscles that crossed over his bare chest and down to his legs that were covered by light blue jeans. His feet were fitted with black converse. I sat beside him and looked at Riley with a blank stare. He looked back with his red eyes full of fire. Riley hated Sensai, as we all did, but his hatred burned and burned. The tension broke as Jack bounced into the room. His light purple eyes searching both of our faces, while his brown hair bounced in and out of place. His dark blue long sleeved shirt fell loosely in place. His dark blue jeans fit like a specially tailored glove over his thin hip structure. His small feet wore black work boots that he miraculously made silent when walking. Jack finally spoke in a childish tone "what are you two doing?" Riley slicked his golden hair back and replied with a short, brisk "nothing." jack pouted like a four year old child, "fine not like i wanted to know or anything." He said as he walked away. I was about to say something but as my mouth fell open Rachel stepped in yelling at Riley about their messy room. Riley starred at her eyes and it was as if fire met water. Her eyes were gold at the iris and that gold spread through the ocean blue color she wore with pride, while his eyes were a bright red that had specs of orange and yellow. I watched them both with my light ice blue eyes that resembled that of cracking ice. Riley finally started to yell back and Rachel's eye widened to the size of saucers. Rachel looked at the door way to find a giggling Jack. She fixed her white tang-top and dusted off her black skinny jeans. Rachel glared at Riley and said "I'm going to find my jean jacket and while I'm doing that maybe you could go find a shirt." She turned away and placed her feet in a precise manner, she always wore white shoes with pink laces, then she was out the door. Riley grumbled again and sat back in the couch. My eyes settled on Jack and he got up and walked away. I looked back at Riley and immediately he said "why is my sister such a neat freak?" I replied with a question "why is the sky blue?"  he looked at me confused "what? that doesn't even make sense?" I looked away from him "or does it?" I could feel the tension leave his body as he grunted a little. Elena walked in wearing black leggings, black and white converse, and a light grey t-shirt to match her light grey eyes that mirrored the moon. Elena looked over at me and we locked eyes.  She gave me a small smile and i gave her a blank stare. Elena is my older sister and she tries to get a smile out of me, but the only time I've ever smiled was the day i turned thirteen and the last day i had any kind of freedom.
