Chapter 17
Kaori, who was Kita's rookery sister, was about Kita's height and had wings attached to her arms like Lexington did. Her color was a dark yellow with brown on the inside of her wings. She had a human face with brown hair coming down her head.
It was just after sunset when Brooklyn and Kita both came up to her as she was currently sitting on the rooftop overlooking the village for any signs of trouble and noticed her rookery sister and their guest coming up to her.
"Kita, what is it?" The other female asked curiously, watching Brooklyn with interest but Brooklyn seemed to show more interest in Kita instead of her.
"We need your help. Brooklyn needs to call his clan but can't remember the phone number for his home. If you can somehow find phone numbers connected to New York for us, we would be grateful."
Kaori nodded as she glided to her room where her computer was, the others following. Brooklyn hoped that Kaori could really help him contact Elisa and the others. The three reached Kaori's room and Brooklyn gasped a little at the sight of the big computer in there.
The other female smiled as she turned it on. "I don't know what it is but I've always been fascinated with human tech," she said with a grin. Brooklyn smiled back but kept a hand on Kita's as she opened up the computer to where to locate the number he needed.
"Go on, she'll need your information on the location to find it," Kita encouraged. Brooklyn nodded as he shyly walked up to Kaori. She was pretty but not as pretty as Kita.
Kaori tapped into the global phone book site and Brooklyn told her to look up Manhattan, NY and the Eyrie Building for David Xanatos. As she did so, she got lucky and found a phone number! Brooklyn was grinning, excited to at last to be able to hear his family's voices once again, giving Kaori a thank you hug.
"Thank you!" He cried, happy tears coming down after Kaori wrote down the number for him and he took it, hugging Kita next but then flushed once more, butterflies in his belly.
Kita cleared her throat. "Um, let's call them, huh?" She said, taking him by his hand and going to the phone in the village. Some of the humans watched Brooklyn with interest in their gazes but Brooklyn ignored them, too focused on his goal to talk to Goliath and his other clan members.
Upon reaching the payphone, Kita handed him a Japanese quarter coin Kaori had and Brooklyn put it in, punching in the numbers. He heard the dial tone, swallowing nervously, shaking, hoping someone would answer.
...
It was getting close to sunrise in New York.
Owen himself was taking care of Alex that night when he suddenly heard the phone ring. He wondered who would call them at this time of night, going to pick up the phone.
"Xanatos Enterprises, who is this?" Owen asked, hearing a strange feedback noise. But what he heard next shocked him; it was a voice the man thought they all didn't think they wouldn't hear ever again.
"Owen? It's-it's me, Brooklyn!" called the voice of the second in command.
Owen nearly dropped the phone but managed to recompose himself. "It- Brooklyn?" Owen exclaimed in shock.
"Yes, it's me! Is Goliath or Elisa there? Or any of my family?"
Owen nodded. "I believe Goliath is on the parapets. I'll get him. Just wait a moment, Brooklyn, hold on." He placed down the phone on the table still on and quickly ran out to where Goliath sat there, looking out over the city, and wondering where Brooklyn was, Elisa holding his arm.
Owen ran up to the two. "Goliath? Elisa? I have big news. Someone just called me, and it... it was Brooklyn. He's waiting to talk to you."
Goliath's eyes glowed and he gasped. "What?!" He roared.
Elisa looked rather perplexed. "Take us to him!" She said to Owen as the two of them followed him inside to the phone. On the other end, Brooklyn had been waiting in nerves, as Elisa picked it up first. He then heard her voice that he hadn't heard in months, the one who he had considered to be a mother when first coming to the modern world.
"Elisa?" Brooklyn asked in bated breath and heard her crying on the other end.
"Oh, Brooklyn! We've been worried sick about you!" Her voice hit his ears that made him smile in happiness, tears coming down his own face and Kita rubbing his shoulder. "I missed you too, Elisa. What about Goliath?"
"I have him here, I'll put him on for you." Brooklyn heard other noises on the phone and then the deep voice of his leader rang in his ears again. "Brooklyn, what happened? Where are you calling from?" Brooklyn knew he had to tell Goliath since he managed to speak his mind to Kita. "I'm... in Japan, with the Ishimura Clan," the red male informed.
On the other end, Goliath had a stunned look on his face, knowing when Brooklyn got home he would have a lot of explaining to do for the others not on the phone.
Goliath got himself together to speak again. "We'll come get you soon, Brooklyn. But how did you end up there?" Brooklyn shuffled his feet when replying. "I was taken by poachers to Russia. But I don't have much time left on this phone. I'll explain it all when I'm with you again. Tell the others that I severely miss them," Brooklyn said in a shaky voice as the audio on the phone began to break up.
"We hope you'll find a - a way home, Brooklyn. But i- f- we can, we will—." Brooklyn's ears fell when hearing the line breaking up. "Goliath?" He asked in a small voice as the line finally broke, leaving a dial tone in its place. The red male swallowed back a lump of sadness, wishing he had time to talk to them more but Kita only had one quarter. She gave him a sad smile.
"I'm glad you were able to talk to them, Brooklyn," she said.
Brooklyn nodded, small tears leaking down his face when hanging the phone back up. "Just really want to get back to them. I've been away from home for too long," he said in a shaky voice. She rubbed his shoulder which sent butterflies in his belly again, still finding it unreal that another female was able to be this close when most of them wanted nothing to do with him.
Kita smiled in a caring way. "Maybe in the meantime, we can continue to further along our friendship until you go home," she offered. That made Brooklyn nervous again. He did want to be friends with her but he felt nothing but worried that something would go wrong.
"Yeah, uh, suppose. I-I need to be alone after this," he said in a croaky tone, walking away to go back to his room he was offered to stay in after being in the infirmary. Kita understood that he was just in shock at having just talked to his clan after being away from them for a long time.
In his room, Brooklyn sat on his bed, trembling all over from the overwhelming realization that he had been able to talk to his clan again after many months of isolation away from them, sniffling and holding his legs together. He hoped he and Kai could figure out a way to get him home again in the quickest way possible.
...
Meanwhile, someone had broken out of a prison there in Japan. A young man named Taro who had once tried to keep the gargoyles in an exhibit of the Bushido but had failed. Though deep in his heart, he had a plan of action to gain his own gargoyle exhibits, one way or another, he would get them.
Taro phoned up Dr. Sevarius, who he knew was an expert on gargoyles. The line rang as the doctor answered.
"And who is this?" Sevarius' voice asked.
Taro smirked. "The name's Taro from Japan. I desire to get one of your special serums that could get a female gargoyle pregnant without the need of a male if necessary. I'll tell you my story when I meet you for some money I may have."
That made the greedy doctor look pretty eager. "I shall be there," he sneered. Taro laughed cruelly, looking forward to showing his revenge to that no good clan he once called friends that denied him his dreams.
...
After Brooklyn rested from his big moment with hearing back from his clan again, he and Kita continued to build their friendship together. One day, he and her were on a dinner get together and Brooklyn himself was enjoying the food, his favorite being the dumplings.
Kita, to him, now was the most beautiful thing on this Earth to him, more so than Angela or Maggie. She hadn't been afraid of him and was willing to help him when hurt, which made Brooklyn appreciate her personality. At one point during their dinner, Kita accidentally dropped her water bottle. Upon going to pick it up at the same time, the two wound up accidentally bumping each other's heads.
Brooklyn rubbed his head but found himself flushing and laughing. Kita laughed as well as he opened the water bottle for her and she downed her throat with the water after eating the food. Once that was done, the two went out gliding side by side under the bright Japanese moon. Kita seemed impressed that even with his deformed tail, Brooklyn could still keep himself up in the air.
He performed various tricks for her such as his flipping in the air and flying around Kita in a circle. She also did her own, looking beautiful to Brook in the moonlight, his jaw dropped a little dumbly. Brooklyn deep down knew Sasha would be happy that he had found love again, or at least he hoped so.
The two of them landed on their perches on the walls of the Ishimura village, turning to face the village. "Thank you for that wonderful night, Brooklyn. You really are amazing," Kita said.
Brooklyn gulped again but smiled. "You too," he replied in his still shy manner, taking her hand, as the sunrise came and turned the two to stone.
If anybody on here is a good digital drawer I would like to see a drawing of Brooklyn and Kita together!
