(6) It Runs In The Family

The next morning, Sunghoon awoke to an empty bed, but the smell of cooking in the air.

He sat up, thinking about last night.

"Stop daydreaming and go wash up. Breakfast is almost done."

Sunoo came around the corner, a smile on his face.

"Good morning to you too, Sunoo."

"Heh, sorry. Good morning."

Sunghoon got up, walking over to Sunoo and putting his arms around the boys waist.

"What are you doing?", Sunoo asked.

Sunghoon planted a kiss on Sunoo's cheek.

The smaller boy stood there in shock before Sunghoon walked off to the bathroom.

Sunoo blushed, continuing to cook.

He thought about where they were going today. Sunghoon had to show him something, but what was it?

Sunoo's phone rang, and he picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Honey, you never responded to my message. I was so worried something had happened to you."

"Oh, hi mom."

"You don't seem to excited to hear from me? Did I do something wrong?"

"Mom I really don't want to talk about it."

"Sunoo, please talk to me. You know how much I care about you."

"If you cared about me, you would treat me the same way you do the girls. Why do you think I came to this school? To get away from you and dad."

Sunghoon came out of the restroom.

"Sunoo honey, I am sorry. I really am. But please, I don't know what I did wrong."

"Everything! Mom..."

Sunoo noticed Sunghoon entering the kitchen.

"I have to go."

"Wait-"

Sunoo hung up the phone.

"Sorry about that Sunghoon. Let's eat."

Sunoo walked past Sunghoon with some plates of food.

The taller boy stood there.

That voice he heard over the phone sounded familiar.

Maybe today he would find out why.

Jake stood by the pool, watching the weekend dog swimming class.

Heeseung walked up next to him, formerly watching the dogs from the bleachers.

"Hi Jake.", he said.

"Hi."

"Something wrong?"

"Yeah. I've been missing you."

"Really? Missing me?"

"Yes. I like you and it's always boring when you're not here."

Heeseung's eyes went wide.

"You like me?! Like, actually really seriously?"

"Do I sound like I'm joking?"

Heeseung was smiling widely and had to tone it down when he saw Jake smiling back.

"I just didn't expect you to be so straightforward."

"Well I am. Let me prove it to you by being even more straightforward."

"Hm?"

"You, me, date. Sunday night. Aquarium."

"Are you asking me or?"

"Yes. I'm asking you. I have six tickets, including one for myself. I can keep two and give away the rest."

Heeseung nodded in agreement.

"I'm down for that."

"Good. Meet me by the school entrance tomorrow morning at noon. But before that..."

Jake reached into his pocket, taking out his wallet.

"You and I need to go shopping."

"Shopping? Why?"

"Heeseung you've been wearing the same uniform shirt since your freshman year. Today, I'm spoiling you."

Jake grabbed Heeseung's hand, pulling him closer.

"And also so you can know what to look forward to when we end up together."

Heeseung blushed.

"Okay..."

Jake dragged him off out of the pool area.

Jay, who has been sitting in the stands watching a woman teach a Great Dane to doggy paddle, saw Jake and Heeseung leave.

"Must be nice. When is it my turn? I want a boyfriend."

"Jay, is it?"

Jay jumped back at the sound of someone's voice.

He looked over to see his cutie pie, Yang Jungwon.

"Uh...yes. I'm Jay."

"Can I sit by you?"

"Sure..."

Jungwon sat down by Jake, continuing to watch the dogs.

Jay admired the boys cute features. Kind eyes, bunny smile, fluffy hair, calm demeanor (sometimes), and even the way he sat with his legs crossed.

Jungwon noticed Jay looking at him.

"I must be funny looking if you're staring at me like that."

"Oh, sorry."

Jungwon smiled.

"It's not the first time I've seen you looking at me. Why don't you ever talk to me?"

"Truth be told, I'm nervous. You're quite intimidating."

"Me? How? I couldn't intimidate a house fly if I tried."

"Maybe because I'm afraid to mess things up. I only have two friends in this world, and I'm scared of messing up other relationships."

Jungwon moved closer to Jay.

"Could I be friend number three?"

Jay looked the boy in his eyes.

"If you're not scared of being around a weird guy like me."

"It's okay. I like weird guys."

Sunghoon pulled into the driveway of the his home, with Sunoo in the passenger seat.

"My mom should be here still. I want you to meet her."

"This is your house?"

"Yep. Like it? If you do, I can convince my family to move out so we can live here together."

Sunoo blushed, opening the car door.

Sunghoon opened his own door, getting out of the car.

"Come on Sunoo."

Sunghoon held his hand, leading him to the front door.

He used his key to unlock it, being met with a quiet living room area.

A woman came from the kitchen, her hair tied in a bun, eyes just like Sunghoon, and a smile on her face.

"Honey you're home! You just up and disappeared in the middle of the night, I thought you got kidnapped."

"I'm okay mom. Sunoo needed me."

Sunoo shyly bowed to Sunghoon's mother.

She bowed back.

"Just as cute as you described him, Sunghoon. Bring him to the kitchen."

She walked away, ushering the boys to follow her.

Sunghoon and Sunoo still held hands the entire way.

On the counter in the kitchen was an assortment of ingredients.

"I'm making some pies. Want to help?"

"I wish we could mom, but there is something very important we need to ask you about."

"And what is that?", she asked, cleaning a whisk.

"Uncle Mark."

Sunghoon's mom dropped the whisk in the sink, turning to him.

"Before you get upset, I know you don't like to talk about him. But Sunoo and I have been having these dreams. Extremely vivid dreams."

The mom looked at Sunoo.

"I believe, ma'am, that our dreams are connected somehow to your brother, and possibly his...boyfriend?"

"How did you know Mark had a boyfriend? Did Sunghoon tell you?"

"No. The dreams I had showed them together. It showed..."

Sunoo looked down.

"...how they died."

Sunghoon's mom took a deep breath.

"Both of you take a seat. It's about time I explain something."

Both boys sat down.

"Let me tell you this, Sunghoon, and Sunoo. Mark and his boyfriend loved each other very much, he always talked to me about wanting to spend the rest of his life with him. And unfortunately, that life was cut short."

Sunghoon and Sunoo looked at one another, then back at her.

"I don't know why you're having these dreams. But the fact that you are..."

She looked at Sunoo.

"What's on your bag?"

Sunoo looked at his bag.

Hooked to the loop on top of the backpack was a black bracelet with a red string tied into it.

"Oh that's my bracelet. My mom gave it to me. She said it used to belong to her twin brother. But he died ten years before I was born."

"We're you born in...2003?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Is your mothers name Da-Hyun?"

"How did you know?"

She sat down, a small smile appearing but quickly going away.

"Your uncles name was Donghyuck, but everyone called him Haechan. Mark however...called him his love."

The boys looked at one another again.

"Sunghoon, did she just say what I think she just said?"

"Sunoo, I think she did."

"Our uncles...were dating?!"

"Which means that Haechan is the other man we saw in our dreams."

"But I don't understand, why are we seeing something we weren't even alive to witness?"

Sunghoon thought.

Everything that has happened with Sunoo, from the very first time he saw him, had to have happened for a reason.

The dreams, the grocery store, the previous night, picking the red thread at the faculty market...

"Mom?", Sunghoon said.

"Yes?"

"Do you believe in reincarnation?"

"I'm sorry what?"
