Chapter Sixteen

"No fucking way!" Jimin exclaimed. "I love his music! I dance to it all the time!"

"Hey, you know what, Yoongi?" Jungkook said excitedly. "I've heard Seokjin is into guys as well as girls. Do you think you'll have a shot with him?"

"What?!" Yoongi asked incredulously. "I-I can't even think about something like that right now. I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that Kim fucking Seokjin now knows that I exist!"

"Did he say anything?" Jungkook asked. "Or did his manager or someone do all the talking?"

"No, he did," Yoongi confirmed. "And he said my name!"

Jimin gasped. "Oh my god, how did you not die on the spot?"

"I honestly have no idea!"

"Well, you better get back out there!" Jungkook said hurriedly. "Don't keep him waiting!"

Yoongi nodded, then turned and headed toward the bar. He grabbed a tray on his way, ready to steady the wine bottles and glasses on it. He had counted nine people at the table.

His heart continued to beat wildly as he approached the table again. He smiled as a few of the entourage, and Seokjin himself, looked up at him as he approached. He set the wine glasses down, one in front of each guest, then the bottles. He opened one and set about pouring it into the glasses.

Yoongi could feel Seokjin's eyes on him the entire time, and it took everything in him to keep his hands steady. After he'd finally gotten wine into all of the glasses, he looked up and met eyes with Seokjin.

Seokjin smiled at him, and Yoongi returned it. "Do you have any questions about the menu?" Yoongi asked.

"No, I don't believe so," Seokjin said. "But I do think we're ready to order."

"Of course," Yoongi said, pulling out his notebook. "What can I get for you all?"

He took the orders quickly, then scurried off. He was sure to let the cooks know exactly which order was Seokjin's, so they would handle it with extra care. He then waited a bit, trying to keep his calm as he did. Once half of the dishes for the table were ready, Yoongi headed back out.

"Your food will be right out," Yoongi told the table. "Is there anything else I can get for you in the meantime?"

No one replied at first; the entourage was completely ignoring him. But then Seokjin looked up again and smiled.

"No, thank you, Yoongi. We're okay for now."

Yoongi smiled as well. "Okay, I'll have your food out shortly."

"Thank you, Yoongi."

Yoongi nodded before bowing slightly and then turning on his heel. He held his breath until he entered the kitchen again.

"How's it going?" Jungkook asked as he and Junho entered right behind Yoongi.

"Great," Yoongi said. "He's a really nice guy. He's being really friendly and considerate. Not at all acting like he's better than me or anything."

"I always knew he'd be a good guy," Jungkook said with a grin.

Suddenly, the cooks called up Yoongi's table number, and Yoongi turned. He hurried to grab a tray as he headed to pick up the food.

"Get his number!" Jungkook called as Yoongi exited the kitchen.

Yoongi expertly carried the tray on his shoulder, and began placing the plates in front of the guests. He'd only been able to fit five plates on the tray, so he knew he'd have to make a second trip. As he was serving the plates, however, he realized to his horror that he'd left Seokjin's food in the kitchen. He'd meant to bring it out first. Hell, he'd meant to serve Seokjin first. How could he have made such a stupid mistake?

He did his best to keep calm as he placed the last plate on the table. "I'll bring the other food right away," he assured the guests without food in front of them. Seokjin watched Yoongi curiously, as though he could tell Yoongi was having an internal crisis.

"Thank you, Yoongi," he called as Yoongi turned around to head back to the kitchen.

"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god," Yoongi muttered as he collected the other plates of food.

"What's wrong?" Jimin asked, walking up to Yoongi. But Yoongi ignored him. He wanted to get the food out as quickly as possible.

Yoongi felt like he hadn't taken a breath until the last plate was placed on the table. It was only then that he allowed himself to calm down a bit. Not that anyone at the table would've guessed, however. Yoongi was a consummate pro.

"Is there anything else I can get for you?" Yoongi asked again, wanting them to understand he was at their beck and call. "Any sauce or extra dressing?"

"A bit of extra dressing for the side salad might be nice," Seokjin said, making eye contact with Yoongi again.

"Of course," Yoongi said immediately.

"Thank you, Yoongi."

Yoongi wasn't sure why, but the fact that Seokjin kept repeating his name was making him even more nervous. He found himself to be shaking slightly as he returned to the kitchen yet again. He was grateful he didn't have to carry any more trays at that point.

"I need a side of dressing for the Greek salad," he told the cook, who nodded and headed off to fetch it for him. Yoongi steadied his breathing as he waited.

"How are you keeping your cool so well?" Jungkook asked as he appeared at Yoongi's side.

"Are you kidding me?" Yoongi said. "I'm haven't stopped freaking out internally since I realized who he was!"

The cook brought the dressing to Yoongi in a small bowl, and Yoongi didn't wait for Jungkook to reply. He immediately turned and headed back out into the dining room.

"Here you are," Yoongi said, placing the bowl down next to Seokjin's plate. Seokjin smiled.

"You're very prompt, Yoongi," he said approvingly.

Yoongi bowed slightly. "Thank you, sir."

Seokjin chuckled. "You don't have to call me sir."

Yoongi nodded, acknowledging the comment. He waited a beat to see if Seokjin would say anything else, but he didn't. "I'll check on you again soon," Yoongi said, smiling.

He made his way back to the kitchen steadily, not wanting to seem like he was hurrying. He didn't want Seokjin to think he didn't want to be at the table. But the truth was, he was hurrying. He was so nervous, he felt like he was going to throw up. The only refuge he had was in the kitchen.

"How's it going?" Junho asked as he approached Yoongi. Yoongi smiled at him.

"Pretty well," he said. "I'm just so nervous, though."

Junho shook his head. "You're a great server. You don't need to be nervous about anything."

"Thanks," Yoongi replied with another smile. Junho returned it as he nodded his head.

"Yoongs!" Jimin called as he entered the kitchen. "Catch me up!"

"They're eating now," Yoongi said. "He keeps saying my name. It's kinda unnerving."

Jimin furrowed his brow. "What do you mean?"

"I dunno, Seokjin just keeps saying my name after almost everything he says. It's just reiterating the fact that he knows I exist now, and it's making me even more nervous!"

Jimin chuckled. "Hey, at least you're getting recognition. Both of my current tables just ignore me when I check on them."

Yoongi sucked in a deep breath. "Can I say something?" he asked.

Jimin's eyebrows rose in curiosity. "Yeah, of course."

"He's so good looking."

Jimin laughed. "Well, yeah, he's Kim Seokjin. I'm not even into guys, and I know he's beautiful."

Yoongi shook his head as if to clear it. "I can't believe this is my life right now."

"You'd better get used to working with idols, though," Jungkook said as he joined them. "I mean, you're going to work for a music company."

Yoongi thought about it. "You know, I hadn't even considered that."

Jungkook furrowed his brow. "Really? Not even once? No excitement to get to work with famous people?"

Yoongi shook his head. "Honestly, I've just been really excited to work with Namjoon."

Jimin and Jungkook both gasped and then began cooing at him. Yoongi rolled his eyes. "The guy's a genius," he explained. "I'm excited to learn from him."

Before his friends could respond further, he hurried out of the kitchen with a tray under his arm, heading to the table to begin clearing it if anyone had finished their food.

"Ah, Yoongi!" Seokjin said kindly as Yoongi approached the table. "We've run out of wine. Would you be so kind as to get us some more?"

"Of course!" Yoongi immediately replied. "More of the same?"

"Yes, two bottles for now, please."

"Would it be alright for me to begin clearing some of these plates?" Yoongi asked as he glanced around the table.

"Of course," Seokjin said. "That would be much appreciated."

Yoongi hoisted the tray onto his shoulder, then began piling plates onto it. Some plates still had food on them, so Yoongi only collected the empty ones. He then turned and was walking away when someone called out angrily from behind him, "Hey! You need to take these, too!"

Yoongi turned back around and saw one of the members of Seokjin's entourage glaring at him. "You clear space for everyone except me? How is that good service?"

"I-I'm sorry, sir," Yoongi said earnestly. "I – "

"There's still food on your plate, Hwang. How was he supposed to know you were finished?"

Yoongi's eyes widened as Seokjin addressed the rude man.

"Well, I – "

"Sorry about him, Yoongi," Seokjin said, looking over at him. "Don't worry about this for now. Take your time and bring the wine back when you get a chance."

Yoongi nodded. "Of course, thank you."

He then turned again and headed toward the kitchen, not even believing what had just transpired. Seokjin had stood up for him. He was in shock.

Yoongi set the plates down by the sinks, then hurried back out to the bar. He waited there for the wine bottles this time and quickly carried them back to the table.

Seokjin smiled when he saw Yoongi approaching. Yoongi quickly opened one of the bottles, and began pouring the wine into the glasses again. When he was finished, he quickly collected the plates in front of the man who had been rude to him.

"Can I take anyone else's plate?" he asked before he left.

"Should have asked that last time," the man muttered.

"Hwang! You are being very rude," Seokjin admonished him. "I apologize for his behavior, Yoongi. You are providing great service," he said with a smile. "I appreciate you."

Yoongi couldn't help it, he smiled as well. "Thank you very much, sir."

"I already told you, don't call me sir. Just call me Seokjin."

Yoongi sucked in a breath to keep his eyes from widening too much. "Of course, Seokjin. Thank you again."

Seokjin nodded, and Yoongi turned to leave again.

"Oh, Yoongi!"

Yoongi turned back around. "Yes?" he asked Seokjin.

"When you have a moment, would you mind bringing the check to me?"

"Not at all," Yoongi replied. Seokjin smiled again.

"Thank you, Yoongi."

Yoongi nodded before he turned around and headed back to the kitchen.

He hurried to the register and rang up Seokjin's ticket. It was quite a hefty amount.

"Yoongs! Everything still going well?" Jungkook asked, appearing beside him again.

Yoongi nodded. "I...I don't...I don't even know."

Jungkook looked at him strangely. "What?"

"There was this guy...at the table. He was rude to me. And Seokjin chewed him out for it."

Jungkook's eyebrows rose. "No way."

"Yeah," Yoongi confirmed. "He's, like, the nicest guy. Just normal, you know? And kind."

"That's so cool!" Jungkook said. "It's like you're getting VIP treatment from the VIP."

Yoongi let out a disbelieving laugh. "Yeah, something like that."

The receipt for the ticket printed and Yoongi hurried off to take it to the table.

As he approached, Seokjin's eyebrows rose. "Back so soon?" he asked. "Are you eager to get rid of us, Yoongi?"

"N-No!" Yoongi said quickly. "Not at all! I – "

"I'm teasing you," Seokjin said with a mischievous smile. "As I said before, you're very prompt," he continued, holding out a hand for the ticket. Yoongi placed it in his hand. "I expected you'd be back quickly."

"I hope you'll stay for as long as you'd like," Yoongi said. "Just because you're done eating doesn't mean you have to leave immediately. Please feel free to stay."

"Thank you, Yoongi, that's very nice of you to offer. We will be staying a bit longer to finish up our wine." Seokjin then pulled his wallet out of his pocket, and a card out of his wallet. He handed it to Yoongi, along with the ticket he never actually looked at.

"Is there anything I can get you to go along with the wine?"

"No, I think we're through other than that."

"I'll get this right back out to you, then," Yoongi said with a bow.

"Thank you, Yoongi."

As Yoongi entered the kitchen this time, his manager pulled him aside. "Has everything gone smoothly?"

Yoongi nodded. "They're done, but staying to finish up the wine they'd ordered."

His manager smiled. "How are you holding up?"

"It's been wild," Yoongi admitted. "I don't even think I've fully processed all of this yet."

The managed chuckled. "Well, not much longer to go. When they leave, feel free to take a quick break. You've earned it."

"Thanks," Yoongi said. He then headed back to the register to run Seokjin's card for payment. He puffed out his cheeks as he blew out a breath while waiting for the payment to process. He felt completely drained, and this was the only table he'd had all night.

Soon enough, Yoongi took everything back out to Seokjin, who smiled kindly yet again.

"Yoongi," he said as he was signing the check.

"Yes?"

"You provided excellent service for us tonight. Can we request you as a server next time we come in?"

"I'm honored that you'd like to, Seokjin, but this is actually my last shift. I start a new job tomorrow."

Seokjin raised an eyebrow. "Another serving job?"

"No, a job at a music company, actually."

"You're a musician?" Seokjin asked with interest.

"Not exactly," Yoongi explained. "I'll be working in production."

"I see. Well, perhaps our paths will cross again someday, Yoongi, since we'll be in the same industry."

"I'd like that," Yoongi said with a smile.

"Have a good evening, Yoongi."

"You, too, Seokjin."

Yoongi began clearing the table again as the group stood and filed out. Seokjin flashed Yoongi one last smile as he turned to leave.

Once they were gone, Yoongi sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Holy shit," he muttered under his breath.

It wasn't until he made it to the kitchen again that Yoongi looked at the ticket. His eyes nearly bulged out of his head. Seokjin had given him a tip of almost 200%. The tip cost much more than the actual food.

Yoongi stood there, motionless, staring at the ticket. He was frozen to the spot.

"What's up?" Jimin asked as he approached Yoongi.

Yoongi looked up. "I..."

Jimin raised an eyebrow. "You...?"

"I..."

Jimin gently took the check from Yoongi and looked it over. "Holy fuck!" he exclaimed.

"Mr. Park!" the manager hissed as he entered the kitchen. "Need I remind you that these doors separating us from our customers aren't soundproof?!"

"Sorry, sir," Jimin replied sheepishly, handing the ticket back to Yoongi, who was still frozen.

"Yoongi, take your much-deserved break," the manager insisted.

Yoongi nodded, then finally managed to get his legs to move. He shuffled off toward the break room, still reeling.
