Chapter Eleven
"How you guys feeling today?" Jungkook asked Jimin and Yoongi as they all walked into work the next evening. The other two groaned.
"I'm okay now," Yoongi said. "But this morning was definitely rough."
"Same," Jimin agreed. "Do you remember much?" he asked Yoongi.
Yoongi shook his head. "I remember dancing. I can't believe I did that."
Jungkook laughed. "You both danced great," he assured them.
"Um, so," Yoongi began, looking at Jungkook. "H-How was Namjoon last night? Did he get drunk, too?"
Jungkook shook his head. "He was driving, and had to take Hobi home. So, he just had a few drinks."
Yoongi groaned. "Great."
"Why do you ask, Yoongs?" Jimin asked slyly. Yoongi glared at him.
"I just hope I didn't make a fool out of myself in front of the whole bar."
"The whole bar, or just Namjoon?" Jungkook asked with a grin.
Yoongi rolled his eyes. "The whole bar," he reiterated.
"You didn't," Jungkook assured him. "In fact, you started the dance party."
"What?"
"Well, Jimin and Hobi started dancing first, but you got others to join them."
"How'd I do that?"
"But admonishing them when they were quite obviously judging Jimin and Hobi."
Jimin gasped. "They were judging us?" He groaned. "So, I made a fool out of myself?"
"Not at all," Jungkook said. "They didn't judge any more when they all joined in after Yoongs encouraged them to."
Yoongi blinked. "I did that?"
"Yup. You were pretty adamant that they leave your friends alone."
Yoongi sighed. "Well, at least I stood up for my friends."
Jungkook smiled. "Exactly."
"Thanks for that," Jimin told Yoongi. Yoongi shrugged.
"I don't remember it, but you're welcome."
Jungkook chuckled. "We all had a great time," he assured them. "Nothing happened that you need to be embarrassed about."
The other two breathed a sigh of relief. Yoongi still looked pensive, however.
"You're sure Namjoon was fine?" he asked quietly. "He wasn't, like, annoyed with or embarrassed by us?"
Jungkook shook his head. "No, in fact he danced with you guys."
"Really?"
"Yeah, sober. Surprising, isn't it?"
Yoongi rolled his eyes.
"He actually is the one who got you to dance, Yoongs."
Yoongi stared at Jungkook. "What?"
"Yeah, he insisted you dance with him."
"H-He did? And I did?"
"Well, you all danced beside each other. It wasn't really together. But yeah, he got you out there."
Pink began to creep across Yoongi's cheeks. "I'm so not a dancer," he muttered. "How embarrassing."
"Oh, don't worry about it," Jungkook said, waving a hand. "Namjoon is a terrible dancer. So, it's not like he was judging you."
Yoongi was not convinced. "I hope he doesn't think less of me now."
Jungkook shook his head. "Stop worrying about it, Yoongs. The only thing he was worried about is that you make it home okay. He told me to make sure and take care of you."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," Jungkook confirmed with a smile.
"Well, if you're sure it all went okay..."
"I am."
Yoongi nodded. He then looked over and noticed the manager beckoning him to the office. "Guess I'm needed in there," he said.
"Probably gonna talk to you about the new hire."
"Oh, they did hire somebody?"
"Yep."
"Okay, well, see you soon," Yoongi said as he walked away.
"Is everything you said true?" Jimin rounded on Jungkook as soon as Yoongi was gone.
"Yes," Jungkook said. "Why wouldn't it be?"
"I didn't know if you were just trying to make him feel better or..."
"Nope, everything was true. Although, I may have left a couple of things out."
Jimin quirked an eyebrow. "Like what?"
Jungkook smirked. "Yoongs and Namjoon have special nicknames for each other."
Jimin gasped. "Seriously?!"
"Yeah, Namjoon calls him 'Yoon' and last night, Yoongs called Namjoon 'Joonie'."
"No way!"
"Yep. And it was obvious by Namjoon's reaction that Yoongs had never called him that before."
Jimin chuckled. "Oh man, I wish I could remember his face."
"All of us just paused and stared at Yoongs, but he didn't even seem to notice."
Jimin continued laughing. "So what else did you leave out?"
Jungkook then recounted the 'I'll show you mine if you show me yours' incident, and Jimin laughed himself to tears. "Namjoon was obviously thrown off by that, too, but Yoongs was blissfully unaware. He did clarify that he meant dance moves, though. Namjoon seemed to relax a bit after that."
Jimin was still laughing. "Yeah, probably best you left that story out," he said. "Yoongs would die if he knew that had happened."
Jungkook smiled. "I'm just here to take care of my friends," he said.
After the lunch shift had all left, Jimin and Jungkook began preparing themselves for their tables as dinner neared. Right as Jungkook was about to head out into the dining room, Yoongi reappeared with a nervous looking boy who appeared to be quite a bit younger than the rest of them.
"This is Junho, the new hire," Yoongi said to Jungkook. "He's gonna shadow me for the next week."
"Hey," Jungkook said. "I'm Jungkook."
"Nice to meet you," Junho said timidly.
"Stick with Jungkook after I've left," Yoongi told him. "He's a great guy. Our friend Jimin, too. I'll introduce you to him when I see him."
"Yeah, you'll be safe under our wings," Jungkook said with a grin as he slung his arm around Junho's shoulders. "It's great for you to learn from Yoongs," he continued. "He's the best server here. But Jimin and I will help you out after he leaves."
"T-Thanks," Junho said. Despite his slight stutter, he did seem a bit less nervous.
Yoongi smiled. "C'mon," he told Junho. "They just sat our first table."
-
"You were wild."
"Was I? Did I at least have a good time?"
Namjoon exited Hoseok's studio with a chuckle.
"Yeah, you did," he confirmed as Hoseok followed him. "You danced a lot."
"Sounds like me," Hoseok said. "And what about you? Did you have a good time?"
"I did," Namjoon replied. "I danced, too, you know."
"What?!" Hoseok stopped walking. "You're joking."
"Nope."
"In front of Yoongi?"
Namjoon looked over at Hoseok. "Yeah. So?"
Hoseok shook his head. "I mean, no offense, Joon, but you're not exactly a dancer."
"Yeah, don't remind me. But why does it matter if I danced in front of Yoongi?"
"You weren't, you know, embarrassed?"
Namjoon scoffed. "I know I don't dance well, but you're starting to be rude."
Hoseok shook his head again. "No, I'm sorry. I just...what did Yoongi say about it?"
"If you must know, he danced with us, too. He was just as far gone as you, though. So, I doubt he even remembers me dancing."
Hoseok let out a sigh. "Well, I'm glad you both had the balls to put yourselves out there."
Namjoon narrowed his eyes. "I just did it to get Yoongi to dance."
"Why?"
Namjoon blinked. "What?"
"Why did you want Yoongi to dance?"
"Well, he wasn't going to and he was the only drunk one who didn't want to."
"So?" Hoseok said, genuinely confused. "Doesn't that mean he'd have been at the table with you?"
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"I mean, didn't you want to spend time with him?"
"I guess."
"Well isn't it easier to do that at the table than on the dance floor?"
Namjoon shrugged. "I guess," he repeated.
"Joon," Hoseok said with a smirk. "Did you just want to watch Yoongi dance?"
"What?! No!"
"Uh huh," Hoseok replied. "How'd he do?"
"Not as good as you – "
"Obviously."
"But not as bad as me."
Hoseok laughed. "Does he remember anything about last night?"
"How should I know?"
Hoseok stared at him. "You haven't contacted him?"
"No," Namjoon said. "Should I have?"
"Well, I don't remember a lot, but I do remember you saying constantly in the car about how guilty you felt that you couldn't take Yoongi home, and that you hoped Jungkook and Taehyung were taking good care of him."
Namjoon's cheeks began to burn. "So?"
"So," Hoseok said, sounding frustrated that Namjoon wasn't connecting the dots. "I'd have figured you'd have checked in on him."
Namjoon's heart dropped. That made sense, and now he felt bad. He began to reach for his phone in his pocket, and Hoseok did not miss the move.
"Going to text him now?" he asked with a smirk in his voice.
"Well, what you said makes sense..."
"Oh, don't let me stop you," Hoseok said quickly. "Please, do check on him. I think it's important that you do."
"Important?"
"Yeah, for your relationship."
"What?" Namjoon asked incredulously.
"Your friendship, I mean," Hoseok backtracked. "Your friendship relationship."
Namjoon side-eyed his friend. "Yeah. Sure."
Hoseok shrugged. "If you thought I meant something else, that's on you."
"Well, you felt the need to clarify. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were insinuating something."
"Me?" Hoseok said, pressing a hand to his chest. "Oh no, Joon. I'd never."
Namjoon snorted indignantly.
"Okay, Joon. When are you going to admit you like Yoongi?"
Namjoon looked at him with a furrowed brow. "What do you mean? Of course I like him. He's a nice guy."
Hoseok rolled his eyes. "That's not what I mean, Joon."
"What? You think I..."
"I know you..."
Namjoon scoffed. "What makes you think that?"
Hoseok shook his head in frustration. "Everything, Joon."
"What does that mean?" Namjoon asked, becoming more and more defensive.
"Everything!" Hoseok suddenly exclaimed. "Everything you do and say shows that you like this guy!"
Namjoon scoffed. "I – "
"Why are you denying it? It's not a bad thing if you do."
"Yoongi is a friend," Namjoon insisted.
"Yoongi? Or Yoon?"
Namjoon's cheeks turned pink. "You caught that?"
"Yeah, I wasn't that drunk yet when you said it."
"Well, I call you Hobi. Why can't I have a nickname for him?"
"Everybody calls me Hobi," Hoseok said, in a way that suggested Namjoon was slow. "And everybody calls him Yoongs. Why does he get a special nickname that only you use?"
"I... I dunno! I just said it one day."
"You do remember when he called you Joonie, right?"
"Of course I do," Namjoon mumbled, the blush on his cheeks deepening.
"Well, I think he likes you, too."
Namjoon stared at his friend. "What?"
"It's obvious," Hoseok continued. "Obvious that you both like each other. Just make out with him and get it over with."
"Hobi!" Namjoon cried indignantly. "Don't say stuff like that!"
Hoseok rolled his eyes. "You know you want to."
"No!" Namjoon insisted. "We don't see each other that way."
Hoseok looked at him disbelievingly. "Sure, Joonie."
"Shut up," Namjoon mumbled as they reached the elevators. "Well, I gotta go," he continued. "I've got a meeting with Mr. Seong."
Hoseok raised his eyebrows. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, I think it's about Yoongi. I think maybe he has an idea of when he'll start now."
"Exciting!" Hoseok said. "He'll finally be here and you can see each other every day!"
Namjoon rolled his eyes. "Stop it."
"Stop what?" Hoseok asked innocently. "I'm still not insinuating anything."
"Uh huh," Namjoon replied as the elevator reached their floor. He entered it and pressed the button for the third floor. "I'll see you later."
"Of course," Hoseok said with a mischievous smile as the doors began to close. "Bye, Joonie."
The doors closed all the way before Namjoon could reply or even show Hoseok the annoyed look on his face. He sighed as the elevator began moving. What had possessed Yoongi to call him Joonie, he wondered.
He was still contemplating all the way to Mr. Seong's office door. He knocked and a voice called, "Come in."
Namjoon shook his head to rid his head of questioning things Yoongi had said. He opened the door. "Hello, sir," he said with a bow. "You wanted to see me?"
"Yes!" Mr. Seong said. "I wanted to let you know that Yoongi will be starting a week from today."
"Great!" Namjoon said, his enthusiasm returning.
Mr. Seong smiled. "Yes, and I'd like you to show him around. Show him the ropes, if you will."
Namjoon nodded. "I'd be happy to."
"He'll start on the fourth floor, of course. You remember being on the fourth floor, yes?"
Namjoon nodded. "Who will he be sharing a studio with?" he asked.
Mr. Seong shook his head. "He'll be getting his own."
Namjoon's eyebrows rose. "Oh?"
"We want him to have all the resources we can make available to him," Mr. Seong explained. "We want him to be able to do his work without any interruptions. He's a rare talent, Namjoon. One we haven't seen the likes of since...well, you."
Namjoon's cheeks went pink. "Thank you, sir. I agree that he's got great talent."
"We will be adding a studio to the fifth floor soon. We fully expect him to be ready to join you all quickly."
Namjoon nodded. "That would be great. I'm excited to work with him."
Mr. Seong smiled again. "I don't think I've thanked you yet for introducing him to us."
"Oh no, that's not necess – "
"It is, though," Mr. Seong insisted. "We're lucky you found him before some other company did."
Namjoon shrugged. "I just made a new friend and he happened to work with music."
"Well, thank goodness for new friendships!"
Namjoon smiled. "Yeah."
"Okay, that's all I've got for you for now. Be sure to be here a bit early next week. We want to get Yoongi acclimated as quickly as possible."
Namjoon nodded. "Yes, sir."
