Chapter Eight

Yoongi sat nervously in the waiting room at the music company's building. He had been contacted about an interview, and the day had finally come. He looked around as he waited. The building was huge, and he felt a bit intimidated.

"Mr. Min?"

The receptionist who'd checked him in approached him. "If you'll follow me, I'll take you to the conference room where your interview will be held," she said.

"Thank you," Yoongi replied, butterflies erupting in his stomach.

The receptionist smiled as she turned to lead him to a large conference room on the third floor. It was empty, which only gave him more time to overthink and start to psych himself out. Just as he was feeling like he was about to throw up, three men and a woman entered the room.

They introduced themselves, and Yoongi was shocked to find out that the CEO was there. Did CEOs usually sit in on simple interviews? He wasn't sure, but he doubted it.

"So, Mr. Min," the CEO began.

"Please, call me Yoongi."

The CEO smiled. "Yoongi, I'm Seong Kwan. We all here have listened to your music and are very impressed."

"Thank you," Yoongi replied. "It's an honor that you say that."

"Tell us," Mr. Seong continued. "Where do you record and mix your music? We want to ensure we won't be stepping on toes of any other companies by having this interview."

Yoongi furrowed his brow. "Other companies? Oh, no, I just work on it at home."

Everyone's eyebrows shot up. "The work you sent Namjoon was amateur?" Mr. Seong asked. "You didn't professionally record it?"

"No," Yoongi said. "I just did it all at home."

"Well, I must say that that's a surprise," Mr. Seong admitted. "You obviously know what you're doing."

Yoongi felt his cheeks begin to heat up. "Thank you," he said earnestly.

Mr. Seong glanced over at the other people in the room. "Do any of you have any further questions?"

The rest of the panel shook their heads as they watched Yoongi with something that was akin to awe.

"Well," Mr. Seong said. "Then are we all in agreeance?"

The other three nodded quickly. Mr. Seong chuckled.

"Yoongi," he said, turning back to him. "We'd like to offer you a job."

Yoongi's breath hitched. "Really?"

"Yes," Mr. Seong confirmed. "We want to start you off mixing and producing, but we are interested in you possibly becoming one of our artists in the future, as well."

Yoongi's eyes nearly bulged out of his head. "I'm sorry," he said. "But a-are you serious?"

Mr. Seong chuckled again. "Yes."

"I-I'd love that," Yoongi admitted.

"While you will be working with our current artists, we also want you to continue working on your own music as well. We will be taking a listen to what you do and will decide if and when we'd want you to join our performers."

Yoongi couldn't help but simply stare. It took him a few moments to trust himself to speak again. "It really is an honor that you are so interested in me and my music."

Mr. Seong smiled kindly. "Would you be able to start anytime soon?"

"I do have a current job," Yoongi said. "I'd like to give them a heads up when I quit. They'd likely want me to train a replacement. Would it be okay if I started after helping them out with that?"

The panel looked impressed. "Of course," Mr. Seong replied. "It's great to hear you say that, honestly. It shows integrity and loyalty. Those are traits we are always looking for in our employees."

Yoongi smiled a small smile. "Thank you," he said.

"Here's my card." Mr. Seong slid one across the table to Yoongi. "When you've quit your current job and worked things out with them, just let me know when you'll be able to start."

Yoongi picked up the card and tucked it into his pocket. "I will definitely do that," he confirmed.

"Well, I'm sure Namjoon would love to hear that you've been offered the job," Mr. Seong said. "If you'd like to go see him, he's on the fifth floor in the Rkive studio."

Yoongi nodded. "Yes, thank you. I'll go see him now."

The CEO stood and Yoongi followed suit. "Thank you again for this opportunity," he said as he bowed. "I'm excited to start working."

The CEO smiled. "We're excited as well."

Yoongi left the conference room on legs that felt like jelly. He headed to the elevators and rode one two floors up.

He looked around for a bit until he finally came across Rkive studio. He tentatively knocked, and a few moments later, Namjoon answered.

"Yoongi!" he exclaimed. "Was your interview today?"

"Yeah."

"I'm so sorry, I totally forgot! I would've wished you good luck!"

"That's okay," Yoongi said. "I just wanted to stop by and tell you that I got the job."

Namjoon grinned, making Yoongi blush when he saw his dimples. "Yes! I knew you would! When do you start?!"

"I'll work out some things with the restaurant, then start once I'm done there. Mr. Seong told me to just let him know."

"He's a good guy," Namjoon said.

"He definitely seemed like it."

"You'll love working here," Namjoon assured. "Oh, I'm so excited to work with you!"

Yoongi couldn't help himself; he grinned. Namjoon sucked in a deep breath as Yoongi's gums made an appearance.

"I'm excited, too," Yoongi said.

"Let me take you out tonight to celebrate!" Namjoon said excitedly.

"I actually have to work tonight," Yoongi said regretfully. "But maybe tomorrow? If you're free."

"Definitely!" Namjoon said with a grin. "Do you want to invite Hobi and Taehyung?"

Yoongi shrugged, but knew deep down that no, he wanted to spend dinner with only Namjoon. As though he could read his mind, Namjoon spoke again.

"Nah, how about just you and me. At least for dinner. Maybe we can meet up with the guys afterward or something? That bar near your restaurant seemed like a cool place. Maybe we could go there?"

Yoongi smiled. "Yeah, I think that sounds like a great idea," he agreed, happy he'd get some one on one time with Namjoon at dinner.

"Invite your other friends, too, if you want. Jungkook and Jimin, right?"

"Yeah, that's them," Yoongi confirmed. "I'll see if they're free."

"Great, it's settled! I'll see you tomorrow night!"

"Sounds like a plan," Yoongi said with a smile.

The next day, Yoongi found himself nervously pacing in the kitchen. He had worked the lunch shift, and as he waited for his replacement, he'd suddenly found himself to be nervous about the impending dinner.

"Whoa there," Jungkook said as he entered the kitchen after taking out an order. "You're practically burning a path into the tile," he teased. "What gives?"

"I'm just nervous about tonight," Yoongi said.

"And why's that?"

Yoongi suddenly realized his mistake. It sounded like he was insinuating that he was nervous to meet up with Namjoon. 'I mean, I am,' he thought. 'But no one else needs to know that. They might get the wrong idea...'

"Yoongi," Jungkook said slyly when his friend didn't respond. "Are you nervous because you're going on a date with Namjoon?"

Yoongi furrowed his brow. "It's not a date!"

Jungkook looked at him disbelievingly. "Just the two of going out to a fancy restaurant? You sure it's not a date?"

"Positive," Yoongi said with a scoff. "We're just going out to celebrate me getting the job. And anyway, why would we invite all of you if it were a date?"

"We're not invited to dinner," Jungkook reminded him with a wink.

Yoongi rolled his eyes. "It's not a date."

Jungkook smirked. "Sure."

"Hey, Yoongi!" He looked over to see Jimin entering the kitchen. "I can't wait to meet up with you tonight and hear all about your date!"

"It's not a date!" Yoongi cried exasperatedly.

"Whoa, okay, chill out," Jimin said with raised eyebrows. "I thought that – "

"Well, you thought wrong. And don't either of you call it a date in front of him at the bar," Yoongi warned. The tone of his voice was enough to convince both Jimin and Jungkook to do as he said.

"Can we at least ask how dinner was?" Jungkook asked.

Yoongi looked at him pointedly. "Not if by doing so you insinuate that it was a date."

Jungkook held up his hands. "I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing."

Yoongi snorted. "Bullshit."

Jimin laughed. "We'll behave. Right, Jungkook?"

Jungkook sighed. "I suppose so."

"Good," Yoongi nodded. "Otherwise, I'll never invite you guys out again."

Jungkook gasped. "But then we'd lose touch, since you're leaving us here all alone!"

"Stop being dramatic," Yoongi said with a roll of his eyes.

Jungkook chuckled. "Seriously, though," he continued. "When will you be leaving for good?"

"The manager said they're going to immediately start looking for a replacement. He's asked me to stay for a week as soon as they've hired one, so I can train them."

Jimin suddenly sighed. "It's not going to be the same around here without you."

"Yeah," Jungkook agreed. "We'll definitely miss you."

Yoongi smiled. "You know, I honestly think I'll miss you guys, too. You're both ridiculous, but you definitely have always kept things interesting around here."

"Thanks for the backhanded compliment," Jungkook said with another chuckle.

Yoongi rolled his eyes again. "You know what I mean," he said.

Suddenly a distraction occurred in the form of Yoongi's replacement for the dinner shift walking in the door. "Well, that's my cue," Yoongi said to his friends. "I'll see you guys tonight."

"Bye, Yoongs!" Jimin chirped.

"Looking forward to it!" Jungkook added.
