Emma walked around the old, torn down house. She could almost remember it, but she couldn't really look around it when she was younger. They were grounded to that one room, or that one floor. "Ems," she looked at Dustin. "You okay? You're crying." He wiped away a tear with the pad of his thumb from her cheek. She wiped her eyes and nodded.
"Y-Yeah I'm fine. Just been so long," she faked a smile. They walked around and got to the small room. She looked inside and picked up a small, torn up, dusty doll. She smiled down at it as she picked off the dust clumps and held it in her hand. She looked up and sat on the small bed that was hers, her torn up pink blanket still in its messy way on her bed. "This was my bed," Dustin walked in with her. She pointed to a smaller cot on the other side of the room. "And that was Louis and Hugo would sleep in the big bed with Marin."
"You all slept in this tiny room?" Emma nodded as he sat down next to her. "What's with the doll?"
"My Mom made it, before she killed herself. She also made us clothes and toys," Emma ran her thumb over the button eyes. "It wasn't ideal, I got to see them at least three times a week but when they didn't lock the door I would walk out and into their room."
"Why?" Dustin chuckled as she gazed at the door.
"To see them," Emma sighed, looking up at him. "When I went in I always found them sleeping in the same bed. Sometimes would have their clothes on, sometimes not. But one night, I just...I just can't forget," Dustin nodded for her to go on. "I found them both awake and they had their camera. They were watching videos on it. I could hear my voice in the video and I can only remember my Dad saying 'I'm going to miss her so much'," Emma paused. "It was uh...a week before they killed themselves." Tears slid down her cheeks. Dustin hugged her close.
"Did you love them?" He broke their small silence.
"Yeah," she pulled away from the embrace and wiped her eyes. "I still love them. They're my parents, not Tikki and Plagg," Emma looked at Dustin, his face inches from hers. "Like I love you." She blushed as the words slipped from her lips. Dustin blushed and bit his lip.
"Uh." He nervously laughed.
"As a friend dumbass!" She pushed him and he laughed and nodded.
"Yeah yeah," deep down, he knew she meant it more, or at least hoped. "What else you wanna show me here?"
"I-I don't have anything else to show," Emma stammered as they walked out of the small room. She looked around the room, a ratty couch, falling apart coffee table, dusty TV, bathroom door wide open. "Uhm, the bathroom," he nodded and followed her into the bathroom. Hair dye boxes sat on the counter, dusty and falling apart, rusty scissors and hair dye kits. "They dyed their hair a lot to hide themselves. Every week their hair would be a dark shade of the color they had."
"Sees cool," Dustin stuffed his hands into his pockets. Emma dat on the side of the tub and looked up at Dustin. "You okay Emma?"
"Y-Yeah," she bit her lip. "Can we go now though? I don't really, feel comfortable here, ya know?"
Dustin nodded as he took her out of the house and to his motorcycle. he gave her a helmet and helped her put it on then put on his. "Do you wanna go home or somewhere else?" He put his key in the ignition and looked back at her as she got on.
"Somewhere else." She dug her head into his back as he started to drive off somewhere else.
