The Girl and the Shade (@Metaphysicsplz)

The Girl and the Shade

There once was a girl who lived in a world

Where evil things moved queens and kings,

And every shadow had a shade

made in pain, and great disdain.

This young girl would run and twirl

In days hot, and in days not

Until one day a shade appeared;

It eyes came first and they were worst

Then came it's smile that lasted a while

He just made a joke, about her cloak,

It didn't upset her all that much

But then through time there came a sign

That he was here as puppeteer,

Here to stay, to her dismay

She laughed and grinned, but gradually thinned

From a young ball to lank and tall.

Years went by and she did lie

To her friends but not her pens

Her family never, truly knew

That this gross thing was now her king

This way did he rule: always ever cruel

Playing with knives and forms of demise

Until one day a light broke through

And our sweet girl, smiling knew

That if she tried to close her eyes

And did not think, it would break their link.

She thought and thought "I must not think"

And laughing loud the shade did crowd

Her thoughts and mind, ever unkind,

But then she caught that evil thought

And laughing swore, "never more!"

The next whisper that she then heard;

She deemed to be; brief and absurd

The shade then tried to make amends

And they became just distant friends.

That poem is about mental health, be it anxiety, depression, or anorexia, the ending is about mindfulness meditation and the relief it can bring.
