Chapter Nineteen

"Making babies? Isn't he too young to know what that means?"

I shrugged, "I told him,"

"You what?"

I walked into the kitchen going straight to the fridge to get my ice-cream out. I grabbed the box out and a spoon. Who needed bowls? And cones were too time consuming.

"He asked me where babies came from," I said as I stabbed the spoon into the soft ice-cream. Nik raised an eyebrow throwing his half eaten cone that was soggy and melted into the bin and washing his hands, "So you just told him,"

"Yep," I said licking the spoon when Jan walked back in, oblivious to our absence as she placed the left over food in the fridge.

"Evelyn! That's disgusting get a bowl,"

Nope. This way I can eat it all since I double dipped. I could finish this whole box. It was half a litre left.

"Kay," I said double dipping anyway.

Evan rushed back wiping his hands on his jeans and stopped seeing me and walked up looking up at me.

"What?" I asked as he opened his mouth. Oh right.

Fine.

I let him lick the rest of my spoon and he ran off.

"Right. What was I saying before?" I said stabbing the ice cream again. Why was there coconut in here. It tasted better with just the mango. Oh wait. I wanted Belgium chocolate ice cream.

Damn it Jan. Why can't you buy Belgium chocolate? I frowned taking another spoonful. My teeth slightly protesting at the coldness.

Jan walked back with more plates and gave me a look. "No ones going to eat that now."

I smiled. "That's the plan." Apart from Evan.

"Eva. Are you coming tomorrow?" I turned my attention to Jan. What's tomorrow?

"What's tomorrow?" I asked turning my spoon trying to make a perfect scoop. How did they do that in stores? It was much harder than it looked.

She cleared her throat her eyes flickered to behind my shoulder. "The anniversary."

I froze.

"No."

And suddenly my appetite was gone.

"Evelyn...your brother wants you to come."

I scoffed. "Does he now? Why do I get the feeling he doesn't even care or be bothered to rock up either. You know this whole tradition you tried doing isn't working. Just quit."

She sighed shrugging. "Your choice."

Damn straight it was.

"I should head back."

We looked over my shoulder to see Nik awkwardly standing there.

"Okie dokie," I shrugged taking another spoonful. I really did love ice cream.

"Thanks for dinner Janelle, the food was amazing."

Jan smiled, "You're welcome back anytime Nik. Eve walk him out will you."

But I'm eating ice-cream.

"Kay. Wait. I need a ride."

"I can take you."

"Ethan can take you."

I looked between them raising an eyebrow. "I can take me." I placed the lid back on the ice-cream "Sorry just felt left out there. Ahem. So. I'll just go with Nik it's on the way."

Jan didn't look too happy with the option for some reason. "Alright then. Go pack your things."

Popping the spoon in the sink I nodded. Right gotta pack em bags bruh.

"Aunt Eve are you going already?" Evan followed me down the stairs.

"Yeah sorry bub. You going to miss me?"

He pondered, "Well. I guess so?"

I walked to the front where Jan and Nik stood, like they were in a deep conversation.

Nik's eyes met mine and I raised my eyebrows.

"You guess so?" I asked looking a Evan.

"Yeah. I mean if you go I won't get ice-cream so I guess I'll miss that."

My jaw dropped as Evan smiled. "You little-"

"Eva hurry up."

Evan smiled showing his pearly white teeth while I glared at him. "Yeah. I'm coming."

That little brat. But then...I would choose Ice-Cream over people as well. This kid was too much like his aunt.

"You okay there?" Nik asked opening the car door.

"Little brat?"

"Me?"

"No. Evan." I muttered as I got in. The boy was starting to get too smart for his own good.

I yawned leaning against the car seat looking out the window feeling tired.

"What are you doing tomorrow?"

"Sleeping."

"Of course you are,"

I smiled closing my eyes, damn straight I was.

* * *

The car ride felt extremely short, or maybe it was because he woke me up when it was my stop and I was just getting into a nice sleep.

"Thanks for the ride," I said yawning as I opened the door getting out, and of course he followed. "You know I thought you'd have dropped the gentleman act by now," I said as he grabbed my bag carrying it.

"I'm not a-,"

"Gentleman," I finished it off rolling my eyes.

"Exactly, and remember that,"

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," I rubbed my eyes as I fished my keys out throwing it to him, since he knew how to open my door better than me. I grabbed my bag as soon as the door opened and pushed in, where was my bed?

"Not going to invite me in?"

I shrugged throwing the bag on the ground and jumping onto the couch, "Come in, do whatever, just lock the door when you go," I rolled onto my side closing my eyes. I heard him chuckle and the sound of what I assume was my keys placed on the coffee table.

I opened one eye after I didn't hear anything and saw him rotating a package, he looked at me making eye contact, "What's this?"

"Oh,"  said recognizing the parcel, "Evan got me a, eh, present," I said closing my eyes.

"And you didn't open it," it wasn't a question, it was more a statement. And I was too tired to answer him. I felt something on my cheek and my eyes flew open but he was already out the door closing it, that was...strange.

I sighed looking at the parcel beside my keys and closed my eyes, just go to sleep. Maybe I should go to my bedrock, no, but my couch was too comfortable.

But now that I saw the parcel, my sleep flew out the window.

"For Satan's cake," I snapped sitting up, "Stupid parcel," I grabbed the dratted thing of the table sitting on the couch and rotating it, it was fairly heavy. Should I open it?

Maybe not, but then...I should. I did love unwrapping presents. With a silent groan I neatly started pulling apart the wrapper, taking the sticky tape off before unwrapping it. As much as I wanted to rip and claw my way through, I took it the neat way having a nice square of wrapping removed. I looked at the medium felt tipped box and pulled at the lid.

I frowned.

"What are you ?" I placed the lid beside me pulling out the rectangle object, but I sort of guess what it was by the picture at the front.

A photo album.

I was slightly hesitant to look through it but I was also a curious child and I let my fingers take over my brain and open it up. I was expecting pictures, I just wasn't expecting one particular picture to be staring at me in the face.

I took a deep breathe closing the album and pushing it off my lap like it burned my skin and shuddered. I contemplated what to do before I reached for my phone. I had to do it like a band-aid, rip it off fast, and all I've been doing it delaying it.

"Hello?"

"I need a favor,"

Ya'll asking for updates is cool but you gotta realise i have a life like pointed out before. So posting on my message board asking me why I am updating other stories and not this, um, I am updating all, one by one I cant do it all at once. You're just asking for a sassy reply "Cause i have a lyf bitches," writing a story is no easy feat, and as fellow writer you should know. You might as well get a decent chapter instead of a chapter just written for an update like this one. Hurried and short. So enjoy this shitty chapter.
