⋆ Chapter 26 ⋆

A/n : I'm nice :) Just not when it comes to writing stories🤷🏻‍♀️And it's a long chapter with a lil bit of backstory :)

P.S : They all speak in Korean lol. But since I don't know the language, I am writing it in English, which is pretty obvious lmao. Anyway, there's a part where there's some English speech. So, I'll be putting that in bold. And that's going to continue for the rest of the ff as well :) And that's also going to be the case for any other language used in the ff. Just thought of clearing this out...

P.P.S : If I put something in all caps and then in bold, it's in Korean but just to emphasise the shouting part.

~ Don't Let Them Ruin Our Beautiful Rhythms ~

* TAEHYUNG'S POV *

Please read the A/N at the end as it is important :)

"Rice, Tae?", Jin hyung asked as he put forward the bowl.

"Thanks.", I said as I took two helpings, my eyes never leaving Jungkook and Jimin.

"Kookie and I are both from Busan! So, we're besties from today!", Jimin said as he swung his arm around JK and grinned from ear to ear.

I gripped my chopsticks hard, trying my level best not to have an aneurysm due to Jimin.

I loved the guy, but he was plainly taunting me.

"Tae. You're gonna break the chopsticks if you grip them any further.", Yoongi hyung whispered beside me.

I loosened my grip slightly and began eating, my jaw set.

"So, after dinner, let's have a jamming session where Yoongi hyung will sing!", Hoseok hyung said as he clapped his hands together.

"No, thank you. I'd rather not be the human version of the Mandrakes.", Yoongi hyung deadpanned as he continued eating.

"Then how about Namjoon-ah!", Hoseok hyung said, not letting Yoongi hyung's rejection put a damper on the mood.

"Absolutely not!", Jin hyung and I both shouted at the same time.

"Why?", JK asked with all the innocence a person could muster.

"You don't wanna know.", I said, shuddering slightly.

"That was so mean, Tae! And Jin hyung! You dirty little liar!", Namjoon hyung said as he tried to poke Jin hyung with his chopsticks.

"Hey! Stob it!", Jin hyung said in English, his face red with anger.

"It's P. Not B.", I corrected him, chuckling lightly.

Jin hyung shot a glare at me while trying to block Joon hyung's advances.

Jimin looked preoccupied as he egged them on, while Hoseok hyung looked mildly surprised.

Yoongi hyung rolled his eyes at the scenario and having finished his dinner, left to work on the setlist for the gig probably.

Taking the opportunity, I signalled JK to follow me out.

He looked at me perplexed, but followed me out anyway.

As we head out of the warm garage, the cold air felt like someone stabbing us on every part of the body.

"Cold, isn't it?", I asked, making small talk.

He nodded as he hugged his coat closer to him.

"Tae...can I ask you something?", he suddenly said, fixing his gaze upon me.

"Sure.", I said as I splayed my fingers and fidgeted with them.

"Do you and Sookyung have a history?", he asked as he bent slightly, to look at my hooded face.

My eyes snapped to his face.

Out of all the questions in the world...

I knew this was going to happen sooner or later.

This was inevitable.

And moreover, Sookyung didn't actually pretend that I didn't exist.

If anything, she tried to openly express her hatred towards me.

I chuckle humourlessly at that.

JK, sensing my discomfort, was about to take it back when I held up a finger.

"Doll...don't take it back. You should be honest with me.", I said as I smiled a small smile at him.

"Tae...you don't have to tell me stuff. I'm better off not knowing, isn't it?", he said, pain seeping into his tone.

After all, she was his best friend.

I sighed.

"Sookyung was my girlfriend in middle school.", I said breathily, the night wind carrying away my voice to the far distant.

I heard JK suck in a sharp breath as he tried to process the new found information.

* Flashback to 1st year Middle School *

"Taehyung-ssi! Wanna sit with us for lunch!?", Saemi asked with a smile, while her minions looked eager to pounce upon me.

"No. Thanks.", I said as I took my lunch tray and headed out into the fields to have it.

As I sat down at the bleachers, I saw a girl sitting there as well.

Was she new like me?

Should I say...

"Hey. Kim Taehyung, right? The newbie?", she asked as she sipped on her soda.

I nodded, not comfortable enough to speak yet.

She was pretty, but not in an intimidating sort of way.

"I'm Choi Sookyung. Saw you in Algebra.", she said as she shrugged and went back to eating her food.

She was in Algebra with me?

Funny, I never noticed.

"I'm with you in English and French as well, if you're wondering.", she said with a smirk.

Oh...

I didn't even realise...

"S-Sorry. I didn't know.", I said with a thick Daegu accent.

I hope she doesn't understand that.

"Daegu, huh?", she asked and smirked whilst swinging her legs.

"H-How did you know!?", I asked, suddenly feeling shy in her presence.

"My father's from Daegu. He has the same type of accent like you.", she said with a shrug.

I see...

So that's how she knew.

The bell rang before we could talk any further.

I took out my schedule from my bag and started scanning the entire paper for the class I had next.

"You've got French next.", she said as she peered into my paper.

"Oh! Thanks.", I mumbled as I gripped my backpack tighter than necessary.

Thankfully, I didn't have to face the scrutinizing gaze of my classmates again.

"Wanna head there together?", she asked with a bright smile.

I nodded slightly, feeling shy once again.

She was kinda nice.

And maybe...

Just maybe...

I could make a friend...

The very thought tugged my lips to form a smile as I tagged along with the bubbly girl in the hallway.

* 2 years later *

"Sookyung...I wanna tell you something.", I murmured as I tugged at her chin forcing her to look at me.

"T-Taehyung...you're making me nervous.", she said as she blushed under my gaze.

You're so beautiful, Sookyung...

That it hurts...

"I like you, Sookyung. A lot.", I said with all seriousness.

Her eyes widened as she looked at me.

"Will you be my girlfriend?", I asked her, my nose turning slightly red, probably due to the cold.

She blushed as she nodded.

I smiled slightly as I took her lips into mine, kissing them with every fibre of my body.

My heart soared above the clouds as we both kissed, not breaking apart for a single moment.

I smiled against her lips as she broke the kiss, both of us gasping for air.

"I like you too, Taehyung. A lot.", she said as she kissed me again, running her delicate fingers through my hair.

* 1st year of High School *

"You're not telling me shit, Taehyung! I know you're hiding something and you're not confiding in me!", Sookyung yelled as she paced up and down in my apartment.

Or our shared apartment, rather.

"Fuck, Sookyung! Can't you give me some space!? I don't even know you at this point!", I yelled back, frustrations mounting up to another level.

"Then, let me help you. Please Tae. I know I can.", she said softly.

Maybe at another time, this soft tone would've made me embrace her and kiss her till she was breathless, but now, it made me more angry.

"Why can't you except the idea of me having some space!? You're fucking obsessed with everything!", I yelled, not feeling remorseful at all.

"I'm supposed to be your damn girlfriend, for god's sake!", she yelled.

"Now, you're simply being a nuisance. Leave, for fuck's sake! Before I forget that you're a girl!", I yelled as I turned my back to her.

She was silent for a while before saying,"Fine. Enjoy your fucking space." and the door slammed shut behind her.

I sighed.

I felt pressured and stressed from all sides.

I wanted to run till my lungs burnt.

I didn't want to stay here any longer...

I grabbed my phone and my apartment keys and went down to the nearest club.

I was going to get drunk.

Something which I had never done.

As I entered the club, I regretted it immediately.

Everywhere sweaty bodies were grinding against each other, the air a mixture of sweat and grime and alcohol.

I somehow manage to reach the bar and sat down on the bar stool.

Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulders.

I turned to see Saemi standing behind me in the shortest dress possible.

"Didn't think I'd see you here, Taehyung-ssi.", she said as she smiled sloppily.

I ignored her and turned to face the bartender.

"Do you have a fake ID? They don't allow underage drinking.", she said as she smirked.

I balled my hands into fists as I stood up to leave.

"I can help you here.", she said as she placed her ID on the counter.

"Order anything you want. It's on me.", she said and giggled.

"I don't need it. Thanks for the offer though.", I said courteously.

"C'mon, Tae! Live a little!", she said as she leaned on me.

"Saemi-ssi! I'm dating your sister.", I said.

"I know. I'm just helping you relieve some stress.", she whispered.

The strong smell of alcohol hit me with greater force.

She was clearly drunk.

"I'm not interested. And you should go home too.", I said.

"Please, Tae. Let's dance a bit. Do me this favour once.", she said as she pulled me onto the dance floor and wrapping her arms around my neck and swaying along to the music.

"Saemi-ssi. Please stop.", I said as I tried to drag her off the dance floor.

"Taehyung-ssi. I like this. For a while.", she said as she swayed along.

"Saemi-ssi! I swear that I'll leave you behind!", I said as I finally pulled her away from the dance floor, out of the club.

"This is not fair!", she whined as she clinged to me, her chest pressed against my arm.

"Shut up.", I said grumpily.

"I'm so tired Taehyung-ssi. Can you please carry me?", she asked as she looked up at me with a pout.

I sighed.

She's such a pain in the ass.

I scooped her up in my arms in bridal style and walked to our apartment and settled her down on the couch.

"You can sleep here.", I said and handed her a spare pillow and a blanket.

"Can you cuddle with me while I fall asleep? I can't sleep without my teddy bear.", she said.

I scowled at her.

"I'm sorry, Saemi-ssi. That's a line I'm not going to cross.", I said and walked off to our bedroom and locked the door, just in case.

I didn't trust Choi Saemi.

And I never will.

* Next Week *

"Taehyung-ah! Taehyung-ah!", a voice called behind me.

I turned to find Jimin running towards me.

"What is it?", I asked.

"It's Sookyung and Saemi.", he said as he panted.

"What's the matter now!?", I asked, worried about Sookyung.

"You.", he said as he dragged me along with him.

I entered the cafeteria, only to find Sookyung reduced to tears and Saemi gloating with her band of minions.

"What is this all about!?", I asked loudly as I walked over to Sookyung.

Sookyung looked at me with hatred in her eyes.

"You have great guts standing in front of me, Kim.", she said venomously.

"What is wrong, Nini? I don't know. If this is about what happened-.", I began softly but Saemi interrupted me.

"Taehyung-ssi. She's being a wuss about what happened on Saturday night.", she said as she smirked.

"Saemi-ssi. I have only two words for you. Get. Lost.", I said icily as I took hold of Sookyung's hand and dragged her out of the cafeteria to the rooftop.

"I'm sorry.", I said before Sookyung could unleash her wrath upon me.

"Did you really dance with her? And let her stay in our apartment?", she asked, her voice reduced to a whisper.

I nodded.

She closed her eyes for a while and then said,"I didn't realise that this was your opinion of space, Taehyung."

"Nini...you know it was nothing like this...I like you...", I tried to reason with her.

"I'm done with this, Taehyung. I'm done with having dead ends and betrayals and secrets in my life! You know how much I hate Saemi, and yet you choose her to play the Good Samaritan with! I'm fucking done.", she said as her body shook convulsively with tears streaming down her face.

"Nini...", I said as I stepped forward to wipe away those tears.

"Don't touch me!", she spat out as she glared at me.

"You know that it's only you.", I begged.

"I hate you! Don't show your face to me! Ever again!", she said as she ran away from the rooftop.

I stood on the rooftop, dumbfounded at what happened.

A mistake...

Can ruin so much...

* End of Flashback *

I looked up at the sky, sighing a bit.

I wonder what would've happened...

If I was still dating Sookyung...

Would I have...

Fallen for you...

"Tae...", JK cooed and touched my arm gently.

"She was bullied, JK. And only because of me. So much that she moved to another school.", I said, lowering my eyes.

"No, Tae. It wasn't you. It was all Choi Saemi.", he spat out her name.

I sighed.

"Maybe. I don't know, Doll.", I said with a sad smile.

"Maybe you should talk to her. To get closure.", he suggested.

"Hmm...maybe...", I trailed off.

"You're suffering Tae. You shouldn't dwell on the past and forget to live in the present.", he said and frowned slightly.

I chuckled darkly.

Past...

You couldn't possibly even begin to fathom...

What it held...

"Doll...you're far away from even beginning to figure out my past.", I said sadly.

"Will you tell me someday?", he asked instantaneously.

"Maybe...dunno really...", I said and shrugged.

"I'll wait for you...", he trailed off and smiled at me.

I smiled a small smile, my mind filled with thoughts.

JK...

My inner demons...

Are too monstrous to unleash upon anyone...

But...

I'm being selfish now...

Because...

I want you to know...

How broken I am...

To save you...

From falling for me...

Maybe not now...

But when you know...

You'll leave...

I know you will...

And that's my biggest nightmare...

A/n : I want to clear some things -

1. Tae and Sookyung did stay together, but they never did the nasty (sorry, I just feel weird using the actual word, lol)

2. Sookyung became friends with JK after changing her school. And since then, they've been friends. It's pure coincidence that JK and Sookyung decided to attend the same college as Taehyung.

3. If y'all remember the earlier chapters, Hobi did say that he, Jin and Joon were friends from High School and they met Yoongi, Jimin and Tae in their first year of college. So, Tae is in the 2nd year now.

4. Taehyung was supported by Yoongi when they fled from Daegu. And at that time, Taehyung was also just 12 (13 - Korean Age), so yep :) Later his parents supported him, but now he is searching for a job.

- Logging off for now...
