Chapter 21 Ultra Rare Premium Card!

The walk to studio two was silent, and you just couldn't take it. But you didn't start any conversation staying silent as you led the way your mind whirling around. You were burnt out almost, from yesterday's investigations to court today to more investigating today. Part of you wanted to go back to that moment before all this had happened.

To sit back on the couch in Phoenix's office with maya bouncing around going on about the steel samurai, then getting you and Phoenix to watch it with her. That was a nice day even if you didn't really watch the show, that wasn't even that long ago. You didn't want to face Edgeworth in court again, you didn't want to even go to court. Your mind was spinning from the long day, it wasn't until there was a hand on your shoulder that you jumped slowly turning back to see who it belonged to. Phoenix...

"Hey, are you okay?" He seemed concerned.

"Oh! Yeah of course I'm fine!" You flushed looking at his hand before looking away hastily. You felt so stupid! With your beating heart and pumping blood that boiled with his touch. You were bright red, you had to be.

"Really?" Mia peered around your side a bit her finger pressed against the corner of her lips as she supported her elbow up with her crossed arm. "We tried calling your name a few times, are you sure you're fine (Y/N)?" Mia knew you weren't, she looked at you with concern and you felt your self wanting to cave.

"I didn't hear you guys...I was just thinking, don't worry I'm fine just tired it's been a long two days!" You brushed your hair behind your ear flashing a smile, but it wasn't long for it to become a frown.

"Is it...him again?" The walking stopped all three of you not realizing you're at studio two already. Phoenix's words hung in the air and you just sucked in a breath. You knew who he was talking about, you knew what he was even talking about. You didn't want to think about it anymore, you didn't want to cry over Edgeworth anymore, it just wasn't worth your time. But emotions were silly you still cared even if you wished you didn't care as much as you did. You swallowed thickly feeling like a lump had formed in your throat.

"No" You answered simply. "It's not him...I'm fine" you repeated the words again and shook your head. "Besides, what am I supposed to do! Not be fine?" You joked a bit looking at Phoenix with twinkling eyes before looking at Mia.

"Are you sure?" She pressed again.

"I am" you sighed. "Thank you though, both of you for looking out for me"

"W-well!"'Phoenix looked taken back for only a moment his eyes wide and a slight blush dusted his face. "You're our fr-friend, we have to look out for you" There that word was again, Phoenix had struggled to get it out this time around. Mia just smiled again letting both her arms fall into a crossed state.

"Of course, Phoenix is right we have to look out for you" Mia went to reach for you only to stop.

"Oh! Hey! WP's lawyers!" A girl's voice called out to all three of you causing the conversation to come to a halt as all three of you turned around to see penny standing at the trailer. She was already up the stairs holding the railing and waving to urge all three of you over. Trading looks the three of you walked to her making sure to be careful of the stairs, especially after your encounter with them last time. Slowly you walked up first following penny inside where she immediately went back to work.

"Hey, What are you doing in the trailer penny?" You decided to speak finally after feeling like your tongue was caught by a cat.

"Oh, well, I had to arrange some-" penny turned to look at you smiling before her eyes fell on Mia. "Stuff..." she trailed off suddenly. "Umm..."

"Yes?" Phoenix raised a brow after speaking standing by your side. Penny just stared at Mia like she was trying to figure her out more.

"The, um, girl with you. Doesn't she seem a little different? Like, is she even the same person as before?" Penny looked skeptical and you felt panic rush through you. You've forgotten about how strange Mia would look to other people who have seen maya before, Mia was taller in Maya's body. Not only that but she looked more like her self than she did of maya, you don't really know how the "possession" works but you knew it was normal for them.

"Um! Nope! Same as always! She's the same as always!" You smiled nervously blurting that out.

"Same as always." Mia flashed an equally nervous smile but she seemed calmer than you did.

"Okay..." penny narrowed her eyes at Mia as she looked back to you. "What ever you say..." she trailed off. In a panic you decided to change the subject to something totally off topic to what the real reason for your visit even was.

"So! All the posters on the wall! They're all of Mr.Hammer?" You smiled nervously, you felt on the spot you're normally better than this. But today has been eventful.

"Yes" penny looked to the vast wall of posters, there weren't that many but in this small trailer it looked like a lot. The lined the wall of the trailer just behind the table where the meeting had taken place during the murder. "It's really a terrible loss for the studios." Penny brought her attention back to you.

"But... his popularity had been waning recently, right?" Phoenix stuffed his hands in his pockets pulling back his opened suit jacket in the process.

"That's true. Then again, after what happened..." Penny shifted on her feet.

"After what happened?" You were curious now looking at penny with a tilted head.

"Y-you mean, you all don't know about Hammer...?" Penny looks uncomfortably nervous, like some one had a gun to her head.

"No..what had happened Miss Penny?" Mia leaned forward curiously and Penny fidgeted.

"I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything." What ever had made Penny nervous you didn't know, but she didn't want to talk about it. What ever happened must of been bad to have her look so nervous and keep her mouth shut, you guessed it was time to change the subject.

"Wait, now you have to tell me! What happened with Hammer?" Phoenix didn't seem to get the hint that it was time to change the subject pressing more on the matter.

"I-I'm sorry. I'm probably not the one who should tell you." Penny looked away not wanting to look any of you in the eye as she crossed her arms. You gave Phoenix a look which he returned, you both knew something was being covered up but what? For now you brushed it off opening your hand for the trading card which Phoenix handed you. Mia just watched with another smile.(She's doing that a lot, but she can't help it.) It was nice to see how smoothly you and Phoenix work together. It's only been a month for you both to know each other, a month, Mia knew she made the right choice of attempting to set you both up. She always knew Edgeworth didn't make you as happy as you could be.

"Well, that's okay you don't have to tell us but I do have a question" you took the trading card Phoenix had handed you to show penny. "Do you know anything about this?" Penny looked at you all now to examine the card.

"Hey, that's a Steel Samurai trading card. I collect those, actually. I'm one card away from a complete set!" Penny beamed a bit. You just smiled and nodded your head in silent congratulations while Phoenix made a face.

"A complete set?..." he trailed off echoing the words back to her. Penny nodded hastily.

"Yeah, a set of one of each card." She beamed making you think of maya.

"Well I hope you find the card you're looking for, do you happen to know where we can trade this one?" You showed penny the card better watching her eyes slither over it before they widen.

"Wait...Waitwaitwaitwait!!! That's it!!! That's the card I need! You don't know how long I've been looking for it!! Trade with me! Please!!" Penny tried to grab the card but you took a step back nearly falling into Phoenix's chest. When had be moved behind you?

"Uh..." Phoenix blushed as he let the words fall from his lips only to gently pull you to his side keeping penny from reaching for the card again.

"I don't care what kind of girl you might think I am, I need that card! P-please! I beg you! Please trade with me!" Penny looked desperate starting to pull cards from her vest pockets showing them to you and Phoenix as fast as she possibly could.

"T-trade with you?" Phoenix was just taken back not sure what to do as he watched you hand him the card. He took it and looked it over before looking to penny as she gasped.

"Yes, trade cards! Look, I'll even trade you an Ultra Rare Premium card!!!" Penny showed you one of the cards she was talking about the paper board shimmering from the glittery finish that displayed the steel samurai wielding his weapon. It was a cool card, if you were into that sort of thing.

"Trade me a... huh?" Phoenix seemed lost and you found your self biting back a giggle. You elbowed him in the side as soft as you could catching his eye.

"We need one of those cards remember?" You whispered to him and he seemed to finally get the picture.

"Yes, it's a good deal for your Ultra Rare! Please!!!" Penny looked so desperate nearly on her knees not hearing what you had said to Phoenix. She was begging at this point she was really serious about this collecting business!

"Phoenix! Can't you see she's desperate?" Mia pointed to penny with such wide eyes like she understood. Phoenix just let his face twist shaking his head at Mia at first, he must not know what everyone was getting so excited about.

"Okay" Phoenix sighed. "We'll trade, here" Phoenix handed penny the card you had given back to him and penny quickly took it from him with wide eyes. She couldn't believe it.

"Really!? Th-thanks!!!" Penny looked over the card Phoenix had given her more, looking like she was holding some sort of magical item. Finally she came out of her trance handing Phoenix the Premium card she promised. "Then this is for you." Phoenix took the card from her watching in silence as she suddenly jumped up giddily. "YA-HOO!!!" She seemed to happy shouting at the top of her lungs running off, she must be going to add it to her collection.

"Doesn't doing good things like that make you feel great?" Mia smiled as she sighed happily beaming her self seeming to forget all about what the need for that card really was. But she was right it was nice to see some one so happy after something you've all done. It's why you're a defense attorney, to help others and do something good. You got off track after dating Edgeworth but you were trying to fight for true justice now and seeing penny rush off so happy with what you three had done had made you feel good.

"I forgot how good it feels to really do some good!" You laughed at how you sounded like you were repeating your self.

"Yeah, it does feel good doesn't it?" Phoenix smiled at you watching the way you laugh before looking away as you stopped.

"Well then, its time to go find Cody again, right?" Mia looked between you and Phoenix. Both of you nodded.

"Let's go before he runs off again who knows how long Mr.Powers vacant dressing room will entertain him!" You rushed to the door with Phoenix and Mia carefully walking down the stairs to make your way back to the employee area. You didn't want to waste time now, even if your feet hurt, you needed to get to the dressing room.

The walk there wasn't nearly as silent as the from. You all were rushing nearly running to make it to the employee area which wasn't too far away luckily. The door opened and all three of you made your way to the dressing room looking for Cody. You felt despair sink into your stomach looking around and finding no sign of the little boy. You feared he was gone, that he wasn't going to come back for a while and that you all had done the card trade for absolutely nothing. It wasn't until you heard a gasp that you realized he was still here.

"You're back!" He seemed relieved that he had seen you, Cody crawled out from the rack of clothes looking up at you with a smile. Then he looked at Mia with an equal smile only to frown when he saw Phoenix.

"See this card?" Phoenix wasn't about to play around with this kid showing Cody the card you all had just gotten. Cody looked it over before his eyes widened.

"Yeah, so... Wait! That's it!!! That's the last Ultra Rare Premium card I need! C'mon give it to me, please! You gotta give it to me!" At first Cody didn't care too much about the card until realizing just what it was. Suddenly he jumped for it only to narrowly miss it as Phoenix held it from his reach.

"R-right! Okay! How about a trade?" Phoenix smiled a bit seeming happy you all were finally getting some where with Cody. You don't think you've ever seen Cody so eager for anything!

"You're on! I'll give you a "Samurai Spear" and throw in an "Evil Magistrate" to boot!!" Cody was already fishing for something in his backpack ready to trade cards until you stopped him.

"No no no, not that kind of trade, we don't want cards. We want some information about what you know from the day of the mu-accident if you were there!" You knelt down to Cody's level again almost slipping up and saying murder, but you didn't want to call it a murder around Cody. Sure he was smart and he knew what it was but you just felt better not saying it.(Really not saying it was more for you than for him you guessed.)

"Huh? You sure? Fine by me!" Cody beamed taking the card from Phoenix who presented it to him. Mia nodded pleased whispering to you and Phoenix.

"Let's hear what he has to say. If he knows something that could help us, we can have him take the stand tomorrow." Mia looked between the two of you as you both looked at her while Cody examined his brand knew card. You nodded turning to look at Cody. This was it, but what to ask? You didn't know biting the edge of your lip. This was it.
