CHAPTER TWO || CREEPY INCIDENTS & LIGHTS OUT

"Where's Miss Zena? It's almost time for recess," Sam asked, rather bored. "Though I don't mind missing English, to be honest."

"Me too," the other boys nodded in agreement.

Nicola facepalmed. "You're only saying that because you were afraid I'd convince Miss Marya to let us do a journal."

"Can you blame them?" Qasim sniggered. Narjes just rolled her eyes.

"Hey, Ali, remember that journal you wrote?" Mohammed turned to Ali. Ali sighed.

"I told you already I didn't mean it!"

   Qasim snickered. "Remember the clown-"

"Keep that up and Ali may just get akumatized," Nicola clapped sarcastically. Narjes blinked and closed her eyes, choosing to ignore the reference to her most hated show.

"Very funny," Mohammed drawled back, rolling his eyes. "Why do you even watch Miraculous, anyway?"

Nicola huffed indignantly, having half a mind to delve into an explanation as to why-from explaining the dynamic of the drama, how it was funny, etc.

"For your information, before you go on about how it's a kids' show, do your research on season two and three, and ask yourself this-why would a kids' show show real school problems, talk about lies, frame of expulsion, a guy obsessed with getting his-"

Before she could finish, however, the lights went out suddenly, the blinds were pulled down, the door was slammed shut, making the room pitch black. It seemed that the lights in the halls had gone out too, leaving the class standing in the dark.

"The electricity is my new best friend," Mohammed declared loudly. Nicola snorted.

"Drama queen," she muttered under her breath. "And anyways-is no one going to question how the heck the blinds and door just closed?"

Emma, who was closest to the door, looked just as confused as them.

"I didn't do anything, I swear!" she exclaimed.

"Well it's not like the light switch turned itself off," Mohammed pointed out.

"Ok, say Emma really turned off the lights-what are the chances that the power would go out at the same time? That the door and blinds would magically close?" Nicola crossed her arms and sighed.

"I'll go look for a teacher," Ali said before going to the door, which surprisingly opened. The hallways were nearly pitch dark, which made Ali hesitate a bit.

"I'll come too," Nicola walked out the door.

Suddenly an ear shattering scream filled their ears.

✦ ✦ ✦

"WHAT THE HECK, WHY IS IT FLOATING?!"

"TELL ME THAT YOU DID THAT, LILY!"

"What is wrong with them?" Sam turned to Qasim, back in the 7/8 room. Qasim shrugged, though that wasn't visible in the darkness.

   "Maybe it was a ghost!"

"That reminds me...It chapter two had-"

"GUYS, SHUT UP, I HEAR SCREAMING!" Ali snapped from the hallway.

"Ali, calm down, it's probably a bug too-"

"THE CHAIRS ARE FLOATING, I REPEAT, THE CHAIRS ARE FLOATING!"

The entire class of grade five and six came tearing down the hallway, some accidentally collided into Nicola because they could barely see in the darkness.

"Is this some prank?" Nicola questioned suspiciously.

"No, they were floating for real!" Tiba, one of the sixth graders, insisted. "Go see for yourself!"

Nicola rolled her eyes, not believing it one bit.

"I swear, if this is a joke, you're explaining to Ms Zena why you screamed as loud as I did," she huffed, before feeling the walls to make her way to their class.

As soon as she entered, her eyes adjusted to the darkness, but did not see any floating chairs.

But one chair was moving in the back and no one was there.

   Her eyes widened.

Impossible...there has to be strings of some sort...

But then a face appeared in the back of the classroom.

   A woman, smiling.

   Floating.

Nicola wanted to get the heck out of there, but first, she wanted to see if anything was on the teacher's desk by the door. Perhaps a phone or something.

She just barely snatched up a black phone before the face started switching to a bloody cut grin, flickering between the bloody face and the innocent expression.

Her heart was pounding, and she had never sprinted so fast or shut a door so quickly in her life.

Her fingers trembled as she fumbled to lock the door. The lock wasn't the best, but it would do.

   "Nicola?"

"WE'RE GETTING OUT OF HERE, NOW!" she screamed, opening the phone and turning on flashlight from shortcuts, since the phone had a password.

"What happened?" Narjes stepped forward. "Are you-"

Another scream sounded from the kindergarten class, effectively cutting Narjes off.

   Oh my god-the younger kids!

"What's going on?" Sara asked fearfully, hugging her brother, Abdullah. Zainab squinted to see if there was anything else.

Nicola shined the light down the hallway, and much to her horror and the others with her, there was a woman standing on the end of the hallway, in front of the gymnasium doors.

But just as soon as she had appeared, she had vanished.

"There is no way I'm going down that hallway," Sam shook his head firmly.

"Why, scared?" Narjes tilted her head, asking that in a mocking tone. "Come off it, it was probably a shadow!"

"Could we stop arguing? Someone screamed, we need to go see what happened," Matilda scoffed. The others stayed silent.

Matilda took a step forward then turned around.

   "Well?"

Nicola started following after her, and slowly, the others went after.

But Sam and the fifth graders stayed behind.

Sam was no coward, and he was rather curious as to what was on the other side of the hall, but he wasn't about to walk into his death either!

He watched as the flashlight light disappeared into the kindergarten classroom. A few minutes later the group emerged from the class and went to the remaining two, 1/2 and 3/4.

However, as the few students watched the light enter the 3/4 class, Sam felt a tap on his shoulder.

By instinct, he whirled around, but no one was standing there.

He turned to Baqir who was standing beside him.

   "What?"

Baqir turned to him in confusion.

   "What what?"

"You tapped my shoulder, what do you want?"

Baqir blinked. "I didn't tap your shoulder, Sam."

Sam scoffed. "Then who did? The ghost or something? Or perhaps that Malla-whatever guy?"

"It's Malfoy for your information!" Nicola called indignantly from the doorway of the 3/4 classroom.

"Yeah yeah, whatever," Sam rolled his eyes. The group returned with the 1/2, 3/4, and kindergarten students. Some wouldn't admit it out loud, but they felt much safer in a larger group.

"I wish the highschool students didn't have exams today," Lily exhaled. "I feel uneasy."

"Let's just take deep breaths, this could be a prank after all," Nicola attempted a smile, but it was clear that she was struggling.

The students did believe in Jinn and ghosts, (depends) but none of them had come across one in their lives. They simply knew that they existed, and although they couldn't see them or have them interfere with their lives, they were taught to turn to Allah for protection from the Jinn.

But they were barely believing anything at that point, that the option of praying and ending the horror comedy style had completely passed their minds.

When they would realize that surviving normally wouldn't work, was currently undetermined. But they were Muslims, after all, so a mix of horror likely won't last long.
