It's been a few minutes now, and it seems that we are going nowhere. The last arrows have been shot, so I've got no ammunition to throw around, so I began to violently flail my bow, only to find out that the bow had low durability and snapped in half to what looks like a downgraded version of nunchucks.
... what's are nunchucks?
Either way, I had to craft a sword, or Cloudy would end up as minced meat. The only thing stopping me is the fact that the crafting table somehow attracted an enderman(which I have no idea to how I know it's name(how did I know that too?)) who is now carrying the darn thing around. Also, Cloudy has the materials, and she's currently taking care of everything coming at her. Trying to gather wood means going to a jungle infested by creepy red eyes that hisses. I am NOT gonna go there.
Those downgraded nunchucks would've been great at the moment... if they didn't poof away. Top bad they did. Oh well, hand to hand combat I go...
I rushed past Cloudy, headbutting the zombies coming for her in the gut. They may have gotten some hits on my back in the process, but no one dies from a pinch... right?
Ad I stood up, I watch the mobs tumble backwards at some aiming skeletons, making them miss their aim-- me. I looked back to see Cloudy giving me the 'Not bad, but not good' expression.
"I spent minutes fighting them with two swords and you stopped it with your head." Cloudy began to mutter."Why didn't I, of all people in this world, think of that?"
"Sword please. Like right now." I demanded. My head hurts from somehow hitting a rib, so I couldn't really get the formalities straight. Well, at least I got my message out well.
"Well, I've got two, but both are nearly broken." Cloudy handed me her other sword."We'd best get crafting new ones."
"The thing is, that tall thingy with all his fancy glowing smoke has the crafting table." I pointed at the enderman. I seriously can't tell if I'm making it all up or I'm really remembering something here. Thoughts aside, that thing has our crafting table, and we need it fast before the next incoming mobs come.
The enderman turned to face us, his mouth wide open, screaming a loud 'huhaaa' or something. It kept hissing at me, so Cloudy took this opportunity to run for it.
But as soon as her sword was about to hit, the tall mob vanished in his purple mist. Great. He left. Along with OUR crafting table that was most certainly NOT his.
While Cloudy was wondering what had happened, I felt a sharp jab on my back. Ouch...
I couldn't help it, but I slumped down on the ground where the purple mist slightly loomed around me. Great. That thing is smart enough to know what an ambush is.
The enderman hissed at me, as if it were gloating at me. It held the crafting table with its long arms. Woah, it's so long I can almost snatch it.
As it hissed at me, a brown sword managed to get a direct hit on the left shoulder of the mob, and it managed to drop the crafting table. It must've been Cloudy.
Well, Cloudy or not, this was the perfect opportunity to get my revenge and the crafting table.
While still lying on the ground, I quickly spun, and my foot managed to hit the enderman by the legs to get it off balance, as I pictured it in my head.
It hissed louder before teleporting away. Quickly sitting up, I successfully got the crafting table. Woo! Now to get the materials from Cloudy.
"Quick, while it's away." Cloudy ran beside me and began to craft more wooden weapons. While she did, I began to watch more mobs flow through. But something wasn't right...
"These mobs have armor on them." I pointed at a zombie wearing light blue armor that shimmered thanks to the moonlight.
"And they're holding swords." Cloudy looked at one headed for a stray skeleton. Before we could react, it cut the skeleton in half. Another spotted us and is headed our way, stapling a stray cow. Okay. That was terrifying. Now we have to look out for armored dead that happened to have killed things in its way. And we're using wooden swords.
Cloudy handed me three swords as she watched the armored zombies spot us.
"Stupid world," Cloudy muttered. She quickly grabbed my arm and ran away from the zombies, pulling me away with her. Then, just a few meters away, she stopped. I turned to see her standing at the edge of the cliff where the water flowed down.
"Fight our way through or commit suicide." Cloudy helped me up."Such great options. Too bad we might die either way."
"Well I don't want to know what it feels like to be crippled from a hundred meter fall, Cloudy." I turned to see the zombie slowly stomping towards us."Hopefully when these things die they drop some of their stuff?"
Cloudy sighed at my option. Well, I wasn't gonna let her push me off a cliff. Unlike her, I'm a dog. I don't have nine lives that freaking idiot...
Without waiting for her, I rushed for the zombie, pouncing on it. Great, I managed to get it on the ground, but it's flailing the golden sword while I'm on top of it. I pulled out my wooden sword and began to repeatedly stab it's face.
It took a while, but thank the holy gods, it died and dropped its shiny blue helmet.
I picked it up and wore it, and surprisingly, it fits. That's really convinient... And sruprisingly creepy with the fact my head is as large as a dead guy.
Aside from the helmet, it dropped a belt along with the yellow and glowing sword it was weilding. Ooh how I feel so much better.
Cloudy managed to kill another incoming armored one, and it dropped a chesplate and a blue sword along with it.
"It... fits." Cloudy looked at herself.
"Same." I told her."Somehow, my head was as large as the zombie--"
Something vibrated in my head with a ping sound. It didn't hurt but it gave me a slight headache. I looked back to see an armored skeleton that was... floating?
It aimed at me once more but before it could shoot, I saw a pink and blue figure come out of nowhere and slash the living hell out of the mob. It died along with everything but its arrows.
"That was one blow." Cloudy was impressed. I am too, seen as we have survived and managed to get powerful stuff at our first night... where ever we are.
"Impressive! Now things turn to our favor because we almost died! Typical deus ex machina..."
Cloudy stared at me in confusion.
What is a deus ex machina?
Setting aside the weirdness that had appeared our of nowhere, a glimmer of light slowly reached my bare, fluffy feet. Morning came. Amazing...
"Morning's here... now what? We're still surrounded!" Cloudy gave a skeleton an uppercut, instantly destroying the mob."Why on earth were we awaiting morning again? So we can see the sun as we get killed?"
As Cloudy began to rant, A piece of information suddenly blasted into my mind. Some mobs, like the horde of unprotected zombies fighting armored zombies, burn in agony.
A burst of light shot down like a lazer all of a sudden, and the naked zombies (not really naked, just no armor.... which makes them look naked.) began to burn. Ah, for once (?), I've never been so happy to see organisms burn.
Though the threat decreased, there were still some complications. The skeletons hid in the shade of the jungle to our right, and now they kept shoot arrows on us like a trap in an Amazonian temple.
The remaining spiders seemed passive. One went up to me and hissed, as if it were saying 'hello!'
Well all I could say to it was 'goodbye' as a sword popped out of it's stomach for a split second until it vanished, showing more armored zombies.
The zombie ran towards me with a sword in hand. Geez, I've never seen a zombie so determined to hit my throat. Either way, I lived by stepping aside to the right, watching the zombie pass by to hid the floor face first. Ouch.
The zombie attempted to stand up, only for it to die as Cloudy fell from the sky. What on earth...
"I jumped." Cloudy answered my question as if she telepathically read my mind."Cool, isn't it?"
"It was random." I replied. Cloudy didn't seem happy with my statement , because she huffed and went past me to check on the other zombies. The mobs looked at us all creepy looking, as if they were trying today get me to surrender telepathically.
Nope. Not working on me.
The zombies slowly walked to us, their swords scratching the grass.
But just before they could reach us, some rustling noises emerged from the jungle.
The zombies turned, looking at the grass. We stood, holding weapons defensively, just in case.
Out of the blue, they begun to move in sync, walking towards the jungle. We stood there in all alkwardness. What on earth just happened?
Without a word, Cloudy slowly paced for the jungle... wait.
"Hey! What are you doing?" I asked her.
Cloudy absent-mindedly replied,"Investigating."
Great, she almost died, and is planning to leave me behind. What? I'm not going in there.
I stood watching Cloudy slowly enter the jungle with extreme caution. Well, if she takes more steps in there, I'm literally gonna turn around and build a mini fort to live in.
Cloudy apparently read my mind, because she continued on into the jungle, and thinking I couldn't hear it, she muttered, "What a sissy."
That's it. I'm not gonna support her idea of following an entire army of dead swordsmen that outnumber us two to a hundred.
I turned around to begin looking for a perfect spot to build a cottage with murder holes when I come in face to face with a green skull.
***
"Glad you could-- with what happened to you...?" Cloudy gave me a concerned look that had a hint of confusion in it. Ugh. I hate this.
I swatted off some zombie leg hanging on my shoulder. Gross. I don't know how I failed to notice a limp leg on me.
"Okay. I'll join you, but I swear this is suicide!" Ugh! That's not reasonable enough! It's the typical thing deutragonists in other stories do! I should have seen this before hand...
Cloudy, who seemed a little curious at first, casually shrugged and went on her merry way. Unfortunately, for the sake of not coming in face to face with any other dead, I quickly walked beside her. Darn it.
"Why on earth are we doing this?!" Shoot. Anorher thing in other stories... whatever I meant by that!"We just literally got here a few... hours? Minutes?"
Wait what time is it???
Cloudy casually raised a brow as she silently skipped through the small rivers of water which smelled like blood. Such putrid smell of... what is it... poison? Ugh. Whatever it is, I don't like it.
"How long we've gotten here doesn't matter." Okay, so I pulled back my attack, but I've got another."But why are we still going after them?! Clearly you see this being pointless, right?!?"
Cloudy stopped in her tracks. Slowly she faced me, with a look that signified she was changing her mind... at least that's how I saw it.
"No."
Well isn't that great. I'm a yellow dog, in the middle of the day, holding a sword as I follow a cat girl in the jungle, who is hunting for a (currently) nearly invincible undead squadron. What the hell.
Although that may be a situation, I guess I'll have to shrug it off. Surprisingly, she is the better sword fighter her. Somehow. I guess all I could really do is hope that her brain doesn't get worse and lead us to certain death.
Cloudy silently crossed the jungle, and I followed behind... clumsier. As she hopped for a tree I lost my balance and fell face first into the water. This time, the stench smelled different. It smelled...
"Gross!" I quickly got up. Okay, so I've only been here for a few hours... questionably, but I know that that's what death smells like.
"What is it?" Cloudy absent-mindedly asked as she looked through the big bushes.
"It smells dead." I wiped my snout clean. Disgusting!"The water smelled putrid... what does it mean?"
Cloudy crossed the bushes and I timidly followed. Okay, this is getting weirder and weirder by the second. Getting weary that the super zombies of sorts were probably near, I pulled the yellow sword I got and looked around.
"What have you got us into?" I silently hissed. As the older one here (I think so) I had to interrogate her way of thinking while I also made sure I was assisting in our survival."You just had to go in here, did you?!"
"We need to find out what on earth just happened." Cloudy held her sword tightly as she retorted with bad reasoning."I'm gonna get to the bottom of this shenanigans and make it stop for good!"
"We have no idea where we are! We've only been here for a day and that zombie thing happened only last night!" Urgh! I should have just got on with it and built a cottage or something, whether that was possible or not!
"Well if you are so against this idea, why don't you just go back and... I don't know, pick some poppies or something!"
Touché. Too bad I had an alibi.
"If you die, I swear to god I do not know how to fight as good as you, I will die as well!"
Uh... that sounded more like a compliment than a retort. Okay... it still works though.
"Well gee, thanks!" She silently hissed as we heard a growl of some sorts."I sorta see your point now, but now that we're here, might as well go forward, right?"
Cloudy looked at me, awaiting for my answer.
"No."
She lowered her defensive position.
"No? Why on earth--"
And before we knew it, a zombie pops out of the bushes with a sword in hand. With some instincts I didn't know I had, I lunged forward and parried with the mob. Cloudy still gave me the 'why was that your answer' look.
Without some hesitation, I pushed the zombie back slightly and slashed it in the face as it recovered. Fighting feels nice now. Not that I like what's happening, seen as these are forces beyond our control. And I'm in a freaking jungle!
Cloudy proceeded to assist me by pouncing on the zombie and vanishing along with it in the bushes. I stood there for a momeny, hearing sword slashes and clanking metal.
...
...
Any--
Finally, Cloudy pops back out of the bushes, dragging the zombie by the neck before pounding the thing to a tree until it died. Well... I was not as fast as I was expecting but good enough. Also, the argument wasn't finished. Cloudy gave a 'I am very confused as to why you answered that' look.
"Why no?! Didn't we get this far already?!"
Once more, a zombie pops out. Cloudy proceeds to smack it in the head and push it off a conveniently placed cliffside.
"I proposed we build a place to stay in before doing something, but no! You chose to risk dying!"
"They could've gotten away!"
"Well, it wouldn't be that bad, seen as nothing will try to kill us with that level of threat!"
"Why on earth do you care so much then?" Cloudy sucker punched another zombie.
"Because we're freaking cousins! I don't know what that really means but that's most likely a platonic bond!"
She threw the zombie away and gave a confused look.
"What the heck is a cousin?!"
It occurred to me. She didn't know? How?
My questioning was interrupted by some more zombies running in. Ah shoot! Hastily, I avoided a sword.by swerving to the left. Cloudy rushed forward and stabbed the thing.
When nothing approached once more, Cloudy took some deep breaths and tilted her head.
"What is a cousin?!"
How come she didn't know but I sorta know? I shrugged in reply.
"Is that a best friend sort of thing?"
"Look, I don't know myself but somehow I woke up and knew who we were and what our relation to each other is. I have no idea what that means but that probably means that we need to keep each other alive. Got that?"
Cloudy simply furrowed her brows.
"Oh well. Fine." Quietly, Cloudy took some more breaths before pointing at a certain direction. Thank god! She finally understood my point of view.
"We went that direction. We'll... I don't know, build a fort or something and then we'll--"
Just then, a loud explosion happened nearby, followed by some scream of pain. Oh god.
Cloudy glanced at me, awaiting to see if I'll come with. Well darn it! She knows the way back! I could do nothing but nod as I turned to the direction of the howling sound. I could hear Cloudy pacing behind me as well.
I have no idea what I've gotten myself into, but it sounded like some other person. If we get this --whatever this guy is-- back to safety, maybe it can tell me what on earth is happening here. Seriously, I think Cloudy isn't asking that question. I think I'm the only one between the two of us asking that. But that doesn't matter though. This person probably has our answers. If it talks... or whatever.
