Chapter 27

'Quiet' City

Quaia City Outskirts

Rhelms and I made our horses gallop faster in the dusty road. I don't really know why, but Rhelms said we should hurry as he always looks at the watch on his arm.

"Remind me why we are moving this fast again, Rhelms?" I asked him. He was a few meters ahead of me and I doubt he heard me, but I waited for an answer. He just shook his head.

"No time to explain!" Rhelms replied, shouting as dust particles began hitting me in the eye. So he had no time to explain? How? We took a ten minute break for eating and an hour for resting, and yet, he had no time to explain atleast a twenty second long explanaition? Hm... might be longer than an hour.

Rhelms gave me the fewest details he could spit out. All he said was that we were going inside a City called Quaia.

"Can't you atleast give me the shortest summary?" I yelled back as I wiped dust off my face with my paws.

As Rhelms heard me, his horse suddenly stopped. Quickly reacting, I pulled the lead of my horse and she quickly skidded on the road with her hind legs. Finally, after an inch away from Rhelms, who was now in front of me and off the horse, me and sweet Butterscotch here finally stopped.

My heart felt like bursting since I almost trampled him with Butterscotch, but he didn't mind. He just sighed."You want me to explain why we are in a hurry?" He began."Well we wasted 1 hour and 10 minutes in our travel time. There's a curfew in the city and it's already sunset." He explained.

"If the greifers find us, we'll be taken straight to the greifers' capital, fully guarded."

"Then that way, we could get to Undelle faster." I retorted.

"And as soon as you reach the place, you will be immediately executed, no questions asked." He said as he got back on his horse.

I gulped. Darn. Imagine how strict the rulers are in there.

"So, how do you plan to sneak us, and our horses in there?" I asked as I pointed at the sky. Sunset.

"Well, before HapPy and Marek departed, I might have stolen a few bottles of invisibility." Rhelms shyly opened his bag and threw it to me. I caught it and took a peek, revealing tons of invisibility, drinking and splash alike.

"Few, huh?" I glowered at him and tossed the bag back as we began to move again.

Our horses' pace began getting faster, and by the time I was loosing hope of finding that darn city, Rhelms gave me a stop signal.

"Are we there yet?" I asked as my horse stopped next to him. I took a look around us, not minding the zombies a hundred meters away from us, wandering like idiots.

We were in the middle of a vast savanah, and far ahead is a vast valley surrounded by an oak forest. I looked at Rhelms, giving him the,'I guess we aren't there yet' look. He nodded and hopped off his horse.

"Rump town... Vaga City... Condasian Empire... Ocelot Rise... where is Quaia City?" Rhelms exclaimed angrily as he looked at his map, trying to figure out where we are.

"And I thought you memorized the whole server." I mocked him in a joking manner. He grunted.

"Just because I was taken to greif towns everywhere doesn't mean I know the whole land."

"But I thought you explored the whole place..."

"That was just the half of the island I explored."

"Island?"

"Undelle, as the evil ruler of half this island, he has declared that all maps must not include the other side of the island due to a brotherly fight." Rhelms pointed to the east.

"What do you mean?"

"Undelle isn't the big bad wolf here. He has another ally on the other side of the huge island, ruling, tormenting, and killing mercilessly, in a more brutal way than Undelle."

"Why didn't you tell us about him-- err... her... I don't know, but why?"

"If you bring down Undelle, his greifers will have no choice but to obey the slayer, or the person who defeats him."

"So?"

"We need the greifers on our side to stop the madness here and there."

I sighed and sat down on the large field.

"Well, now that what you answered all my questions before I could even ask them, I'm just gonna sit here and wait for you to get your mind back to the path."

"Good."

I laid my head on the ground gently. Stars began to shine beautifully on the night sky. Nothing was bad that night-- except for a few mobs wandering near us. Creepy.

"Time to go, Cat Girl." Rhelms told me as he sat on his horse. I sighed and sat on my horse.

Huh. I wonder when I will ever see the night sky like that again.

Rhelms and I were riding our horse in the city, unsure whether the last door headed north is closed. We couldn't really travel far also because  after atleast five minutes, the potion effect will run out, and the guards can see us.

"I believe we should stay in for the night." I suggested.

"There." Marek pointed to a building on the left."To that inn."

"In quickly followed the dust coming out of nowhere to that inn.

I placed the horses in the nearby stable at the back, and went inside the inn, wearing the black cloak Rhelms gave me to hide our identity from the wandering greifers.

I entered the inn to see Rhelms handing a boy some coins for the overnight stay.

"Okay. I'll let you know when we need something." Rhelms said as he turned around to see me by the door.

"Ah, just in time. Let's go. We have a lot to talk about." Rhelms said as he opened a door on the left, showing a medium sized room. It was cozy, and had a large table with a large lamp sitting on it, brightening up the place.

"So who was the boy you were talking to?" I asked.

"Just some boy who does his job."

"Which is?"

"Begging for money outside when morning, then paying people to let him in their house at night."

"But a little boy? Are you serious?"

"Have I ever lied?"

"You hid the other side of the island  from us."

"Just... Nevermind. Off to work."

I sighed once more and went to a nearby window, staring at the main road while Rhelms gathered the maps, preparing our route.

There was nothing much to see at night, just a few birds and stray dogs on the gravel roads. Too eerie. It was giving me the creeps. Personally, I think they should have just named this 'Quiet City.' A very busy place in morning, and a very quiet place in night, like a graveyard.

As I looked at the view, I thought of the little boy. I wonder what happened to him and how he ended up like that? Maybe I'll know soon...
