Chapter 16
Beat the Boss
With Cat taking the lead, we barely had any sleep. She was too determined to get Marek his vengeance on these people we barely knew. She kept us awake by reminding us of what we had to go through long time ago. Our sufferings from the past made us feel anger, and we started working faster. Of course, Marek is too focused on his vengeance to even bother with what she was gonna say. I can't even talk to her properly anymore. After seeing her carry large amounts of wood with one hand while smacking a zombie with a stick, I don't think it's a good idea to stop her. She wasn't the Cat I remembered. Well, friendship equals a female army commander. Better take note of that for future purposes.
I wish I could just give her a peice of my mind, but I can't. She was too focused on making a lot of weaponry. A lot. Outside our home, she made a lot of dummies made of wheat-- and she used the wheat from our indoor farm. Every hour, as I pass by the house, I could see her testing every weapon we made. Though it's a good thing for us, for the dummies... well let's say their heads fell off. Cat would have none of it though. She would just tie back the head with a lot of string, then murder the lifeless things again. Whatever she has in mind, I can't change it. I tried to tell her about the phrase 'calm down' when she accidentally swing a sword at me trying to turn around and say 'no'. Yikes!
Today, I accidentally fell asleep in the cave. I mean, 3 days no rest? Who can't resist closing they're eyes for atleast an hour? I bought my two dogs, Happy and Harpy along with me. I won't let them get harmed just because Cat and Marek are making a training montage about them battling dummies and chopping wood. I mean, who would want to leave their child to a determined Cat and a bear holding a knife? No one, obviously! The same here. I'm not leaving my two dogs to a polar bear with list-full of vengeance in his brain and a cat chopping off dummy heads with a golden spade!
I think I slept for too long in the cave, though, because when I checked my clock, it was morning, not noon. But I doubt Marek wouldn't mind his friend was missing for the past 19 hours. I mean, he's too focused on crafting swords and I doubt he would look for me and break his momentum, so...
"Doggy woggy didn't get any sleep, huh?" I heard as I opened my eyes from my deep sleep. I looked around. It was my goat prisoner, who looked hungry. I know he tried to kill me, and he's hanging from a pole, inches above zombies trying to reach him, but I was kind enough to nod.
"Seems that Marek has been keeping you up, huh?" He asked as he tried to spit on the ground when it hit a zombie, straight in the mouth. Eww....
"That cat too, I'm guessing?"
I was about to nod again to his question when it hit me suddenly: he had not met Marek and yet he knows him already. I stood up and turned to face his cage from the other side of the bridge."How do you know his name?" I inquired, having the feeling that this would end to no good. He took a good look at me and smiled."I knew you were smart enough to ask."
"Do you know him?" I asked him while I got my pickaxe and torch on the ready. He nodded.
"Tell me about him." I demanded. He laughed."I knew you were smart enough to notice." He said with a grimace look on his face. I rolled my eyes."I don't need your happy face to distract me." I told him."Just tell me why he hates you and your griefing cult or something."
He attempted to lean his head to my direction."That polar bear with you, he was one of us." The words hit me. One of us. I looked at him directly, and replied."You said he WAS. Tell me why." I demanded again. It's all kind of adding up! A few days ago, Marek mentioned he was a former member of the greifers. Intriguing.
"The griefing group of ours was meant to just destroy buildings, annoy and prank people, steal..." He continued on his list.
"But one day, our boss acted... funny. He wanted to see suffering. He wanted to kill everyone. He became a killer." He finished."So, let me get this straight. A trolling group turned to terrorists, am I correct?" I asked. He nodded.
"Marek found it a little too violent." He began."When our leader waged an attack on a polar village-- his village, Marek was assigned to kill his own family. Seen as he couldn't do such a thing, the leader killed everyone he knew and left him with his only family left-- his cousin." He said as he kicked one of the zombies who were trying to bite his hoof.
"Marek, his cousin, and the other captives were led to a prison camp, otherwise known as a mineshaft. Marek and his cousin kept writing stuff, passing them back to each other again and again." He said, coughing. I sat down and patted the dogs."So those letters they passed were the escape plans, huh?" I asked him."How would you know?" He asked me, a bit confused. (?)
"The girl's entry tells us about her and a close relative of his. They were passing notes to each other." I told him. He huffed."Anyways, I left my key to one of the guards, who, unintentionally, fell asleep on duty. He fell asleep right at the cage of the girl." He told me.
"I have a question." I interrupted him."Did you intentionally put the guard on that position? I mean, Marek was just across, and as a prisoner for many times, he can escape easily." I began."So did you intentionally put them across each other so when the guard holding the key is vulnerable, you could let them escape?" I asked. He laughed.
"You're pretty clever, dog." He said."Yes. I did put him there intentionally.
"But why?" I asked.
"Ever since our boss got bloodlust, we were suffering more than the prisoners." He said."I knew I had to find a way to sneak them out."
"But I knew that if they ever were caught, the boss won't leat them escape that easily, so I had to beat up Marek to make it look like he had a hard time escaping. I also had to do it to myself, you know, so it would seem we fought."' He told me."So why won't you all fight him back?" I asked. He frowned.
"Our boss held our families hostage." He answered."If we displease him, our families die." I looked at him in pity."Marek had no more. The creepers blew her up, along with a dot in the jungle."
"I'm so sorry about that." I said." He smiled at me."The only reason I had to try to kill you was for my brother. He's being held hostage by the boss." He told me.
"You know, Marek's being a bit furious with this griefing group and all. He won't tell us a thing about his past." I told him."I'll make a deal with you. I'll free you and we'll save you brother. In exchange, I want you to change you life and help us bring justice to this insane guy of yours." I said."Deal?" I asked.
"Deal." He replied. I broke a part of the cage and placed back the torches. I killed the remaing zombies. I cut off his ropes and introduced myself."HapPy." I said as I raised my hand for him to shake."Rhelm." He said. I led him outside.
So now, we have an extra ally. A not so bad enemy to help us in helping Marek put justice to his former master. Good. Just what we needed
