Here Comes the- Where'd the Sun Go?
A/N: *nervously laughs* Hi? Sorry for the month long absence, I'm having major writer's block with this story. Here's a long overdue update.
Violet's PoV
I knew things were wrong when I woken up by Finn's gasp.
I tried to ignore him but the gasp was quickly followed by him shouting, "WHAT THE HECK!?"
"Finn," I groaned, "it's too early for this."
"Violet, it's ten o'clock in the morning..." Finn replied.
"What?" I asked, suddenly more alert. The room was pitch black; no light was coming through the windows. I ran to the door and threw it open only to reveal how dark it was outside. After turning on the lights, I checked the time to make sure Finn wasn't playing a prank on me.
10:00am
He wasn't lying.
I was about to say something to him when my cellphone rang. I checked the caller ID to see it was a friend from my school.
I answered the phone and prayed monsters wouldn't get too close to camp, "Michael, you know you're not supposed to call me unless-"
"Violet don't tell me you're not seeing this! It's all over the news!" Michael replied almost frantically.
"What are you talking abo-"
"THE SUN IS GONE! VIOLET LOOK OUTSIDE! NOT A SINGLE CITY CAN SEE IT, YET THE EARTH IS STILL BEING HEATED! SCIENTISTS CHECKED, THE SUN IS STILL THERE, BUT THE LIGHT'S NOT GETTING TO US!!!"
"Michael, calm down. I'm sure this'll be all sorted out soon. Maybe it's just some Vampire's Rights activists."
"That's not funny," Michael said before hanging up.
Now, I wish I could tell you I stayed calm and went about my day as if nothing was wrong, but that would be lying. I did have the sense to grab Finn and look for my parents for help.
"Violet!" I turned to see Jacob running at me from Cabin 6.
"Jacob! Where are Mon and Dad?" I questioned.
"Probably at the all camp meeting in the pavilion." Jacob responded. "Violet, Lady Artemis is here."
"WHAT?! YOU ME-" I was cut off by Finn's hand covering my mouth.
"Your voice is annoying me," he explained. "Come on."
When we reached the dining pavilion, most of the other campers were already there, along with our parents.
"-has been captured," Artemis said.
I leaned over to my mom and whispered, "Who got captured?"
"Apollo," she whispered back.
I felt my eyes widen in shock, "Is that why the su-"
"Yes, but you need to be quiet," she whispered back.
"-must be rescued," Artemis continued. "This quest is in need of more than just three of your campers; unfortunately, I can only spare one of my huntresses. My lieutenant, Thalia Grace, has volunteered to lead the quest." The goddess turned to Thalia. "Who will go with you?"
Thalia stood before saying, "I've decided it would be best for-"
"Me," I looked around to see who had said it before realizing I was standing. I saw my mom place her head in her hands, obviously stressed. Dad just looked proud.
Artemis turned to me, "You can not just interrupt my followers!"
"Actually, she's right," Thalia said, "I was planning on having her come."
"Very well, who else?" Artemis asked.
Thalia smiled before looking across the room and saying, "Stella-"
She was cut off by Finn jumping up, "You can't just take Violet on another quest! I haven't even gone on one yet! If she goes so do I!"
Artemis looked annoyed, "What is it with your fa-"
"Finn is right, Lady Artemis." Jacob was standing now; he continued to talk, "If Violet goes, we go. She's our sister, someone has to watch her."
Artemis looked angry, "No! I will not allow boys to quest with my huntress! Not again, not after last time!"
"My Lady," Thalia started, "I think this is for the best. They're good, powerful fighters; they could prove useful. Besides, there will be more girls anyways."
I saw Stella perk up before asking, "I still get to go?"
"Of course, young girl," Artemis said in a sweet tone. "I suppose this is the questing group. You should all get ready, you leave in a few hours." She then turned to Chiron, "It was nice seeing you again. If everyone would look away now..." The next thing I know there's a flash of light. When I looked up, the goddess was gone.
"I guess we should get packing," Finn said with a huge smile plastered to his face.
After about ten minutes of packing and two hours of making sure we had everything, we were standing on Half-Blood Hill, ready to leave. Our parents were giving us advice on what to and what not to do on a quest.
"Don't take your bags off your backs, and make sure you always have drachmas and cash in your pockets," Mom said.
"If someone is nice, be on guard; they're probably not human," Dad continued.
"Don't-" Mom was cut off by Finn.
"We'll be fine, Mom," he said. "We have Thalia and our weird power things and Stella."
Our mom sighed as she pulled us into a hug. "I'm just worried about you kids." After a second she looked at Stella, "Come here."
Stella looked nervous as she walked over, "Y-yes Mrs. Jackson?"
Mom dragged her into the hug before saying, "You be safe too. You're a wonderful girl."
Right as she let go of us, I heard someone yelling. I turned to see Parker running up the hill. "Violet! Violet, don't leave yet!"
I laughed as he made it to us, breathing heavily. "What's up, Stoll?"
"I didn't want you to leave before I could say goodbye," he said between gasps.
"Well, you got here just in time," I said gesturing to the van pulling up. "Don't get into too much trouble with your pranks, understood?"
"Understood," he replied. We stared at each other until Argus honked the van's horn. Parker pulled me into a bone crushing hug, "Please stay safe."
"I will, "I assured him.
"You'd better," he said with a small smile.
The horn honked again cuing me to say goodbye, "I should go-" he quickly cut me off by kissing me, effectively leaving me stunned.
"I think it's time for you to go," he said.
"Y-yeah," I managed to say. I waved goodbye as I climbed into the van. I placed my hands on my tingling lips, but something felt off. I didn't have time to think about it as the van pulled off, taking me on a quest to save a god.
