The Four of Us (xiv)

"You know, the legend."

Jun picked up from where Kame left off.

"The one concerning the tree of eternal happiness."

"Eternal...happiness?" Shuu and I repeated.

Kame continued to explain.

"Well, the story goes like this:

Once, four villagers of the same age searched through

acres of forest in order to meet a deity.
Each of them had problems of their own that they wanted to solve.
Unrequited love, dying relatives, unfulfilled dreams, and the like.
After hearing a rumor about a god that resides within the mountains
who grants wishes to those determined enough to look for him,
they decided to give it a try.
So the four of them hiked from dawn until dusk to find the
God, while having no means with which to identify him.
By the time they had reached the top though,
everyone was tired.
Since it would be too dark for them to head back at this point,
they all decided to rest under a giant tree.

However, just as they were about to fall asleep..."

Kame paused for dramatic effect.

Shuu was annoyed. "Hey, don't just stop, Kaede!"

"Sorry, sorry. Couldn't help it."

He laughed light-heartedly

and then continued in a husky, ominous tone.

"Okay, so as they were about to fall asleep..."

I gulped in anticipation.

A/N: "Tree of Eternal Happiness" sounded better in my head...ahaha, such an embarrassing name. But there is a reason for it, so please bear with me~ (*/ω\)
