Chapter 3

Adrien's POV

I paced furiously around the room, stopping now and then to look at my soulmark. It seemed to glow a pale pink that lit up the silver tiara with the right amount of light. It truly was spectacular. Sparkles began to shine, even though it was a tattoo. The black jewel with the green paw print shone brightly, and a picture of a black circle with the green paw print on it was projected on to a nearby wall.

Words began forming right underneath the black circle. 'Answers will slice through your heart as cleanly as a cat's claws ripping prey.'

"W-what?" I glanced over at Plagg who was casually eating three wheels of cheese at the same time. Well, he tried to look casual, even though his cheeks bulged with half-chewed Camembert. "Plagg, what's happening?"

"Oh, I shall tell you when you are one step closer to finding out who your soulmate is. But right now I will share a secret with you. Soulmates..."

I felt the sudden urge to transform into Chat Noir. "Plagg, claws out!" I wasn't listening to Plagg. 

"Wait, why are we transforming?" he yelled as he swirled into my miraculous.

I transformed and jumped out, propelling myself across the city with my baton. I saw Chloe and Sabrina both holding several enormous shopping bags, laughing. Alya and Nino were snuggled up on a bench in the park and Kagami was talking to a boy.

Wait. A boy? My curiosity got the better of me and I swooped down to get a closer look. Kagami and Luka. They were chuckling as they talked. I waited for a jealousy wave to come crashing down on me, but it never came.

Luka started to walk away. Once he was gone, I jumped down and approached Kagami.

"Kagami," I greeted her.

Her eyes widened slightly. "Chat Noir!"

I grinned. "Surprised?"

Kagami nodded. "Yeah. I thought you weren't allowed to interact with miraculous holders that have had their identity revealed."

I shrugged before asking, "Who were you talking to?"

"Luka," she replied. "We were talking about soulmarks. I can't wait for tomorrow! I finally get to see my mark!" Kagami smiled. "I bet it's Adrien Agreste, my boyfriend. He's like, the most gorgeous boy I've ever met."

"Is that the reason why you like him?" I interrupted, frowning.

"Of course not! He has a heart of gold and is always so obedient. That's what I like about him." Kagami glanced to her right. "I need to go. Bye Chat!" She skipped away.

My frown deepened. She liked me because I was obedient? Only Ladybug had seen what I was really like. And I was not obedient. Well, maybe a little obedient, but that was all.

With a sigh, I leaped back home.

TIME SKIP

I woke up, my heart skipping a beat. Today was the day all my friends would get their soulmarks! I jumped out of bed, put on a black pull over jumper and and jeans. I ruffled my blond hair to make it look immaculately messy. 

"Hello Adrien." Nathalie rapped on the door and spoke. "Please get ready. I am waiting."

"I am awake," I replied, opening the door and shoving my hands inside my pockets. 

"Your fans are waiting outside with the paparazzi. They are going crazy about your newest advertisement." Nathalie showed a hint of sympathy. 

I groaned. My newest advertisement was modelling underwear and swimming costumes.  The camera took pictures of my abs perfectly, making me look muscular and more handsome, according to Chloe.

"I will not allow you to eat any breakfast because of the croissants your friend Marinette presented to you. Please go out." Nathalie took me to the huge doors of the mansion. "Don't forget you have fencing this afternoon."

A blush covered my cheeks when I thought about Kagami and fencing. She really was my dream girl. I couldn't believe she wasn't my soulmate. Who else was out there who was more beautiful than her?

A squeal entered my ears when Gorilla opened the door. A swarm of fans were pressing against the massive gates. The paparazzi flashed pictures and asked a never ending crowd of questions.

"Have you got your soulmark?"

"What will you do if it is not your girlfriend?"

"Tell us more about the next advertisement!"

After a lot of hustle, I finally got to school. A girl with raven blue hair was chatting with someone at the front of the school. 

"Kagami!" I yelled, running towards her. She looked prettier than ever, even from the back.

She turned around, and I found myself slowing down as I realised it was Marinette, not Kagami. Dumb, dumb, dumb! I screamed silently to myself.  They don't even have the same length of hair! 

Marinette went over to me. "Thought I was Kagami?" she asked humorously, giggling.

That giggle. It was magical. I bashed my forehead inwardly. You have Kagami as your girlfriend. I reminded myself. Don't fall for Marinette.

"Kagami is sick today," she informed me. "She won't be attending school." Marinette's voice was gentle, but cold. 

"O-okay..." I muttered. "Have you received your soulmark?" I tried to brighten the mood.

"Yes." Marinette averted her eyes. "And I hate the mark."

"W-why?" I stammered because of shock and another reason I couldn't lay my finger on.

"I hate hamsters," she growled. "They are annoying!"

What a shame. I love hamsters. "How are they annoying?" I questioned.

Marinette's expression turned dark. "Stop asking questions, Adrien!" she yelled, dark circles shadowing her eyes. "Ask Kagami about her soulmark. Stop peppering me with questions!" She spat my girlfriend's name like it was poison. 

"Isn't Kagami your friend?" I asked.

Marinette spun on her heel and walked away. 

"Woah..." I breathed. "What is going on with her?"

Plagg didn't make a barbed comment like he usually did. Strangely enough, he didn't even shift. I peered inside my pocket and found him sleeping, snoring quietly.  I smiled fondly at my kwami.

Thoughts bubbled in my head as I pondered Marinette's strange mood swing. I decided I would go see her. Time to see what was wrong.
