Chapter Eight
~Sabre's POV~
Rainbow Steve runs off in some direction after listening into what happened at the town square. I sigh, running after him to make sure he's okay. Why does it feel like it hurts, seeing Rainbow Steve cry..? I think silently, shaking the thought off. I soon catch up to him, and I sigh softly.
"Rainbow Steve, stop running," I say softly, but he doesn't even listen to me; it's like he didn't hear me at all.
Eventually, he does slow down, seeing as he's clearly getting tired from running. "C'mon, stop running," I attempt to soothe him, but he doesn't really listen.
"How would you react if you just found out that the only person that was there for you is now dead?!" he shouts at me, tears streaming down his face.
"I would react about the same way. It's going to be okay, Rainbow Steve—" he cuts me off before I even finish.
"It's not going to be okay!" he shouts at me. "He was the only person I had! Now he's gone, and I have nobody left!"
"I know exactly how you feel, Rainbow Steve!" I shout back at him, thinking back on my father, my first mentor, Shadow, and my dear mother. "I lost everybody I cared about, and that's when I joined the creed! To get rid of the dumb guards that took everyone I love from me!"
Rainbow Steve goes silent from my sudden outburst, and I sigh. "I know exactly how you feel, Rainbow Steve. We've both lost people close to us."
He then walks over to me, hugging me. Taken back in surprise, it takes me a minute to realize what's happening. Faintly, I feel myself blush. I hug back, nevertheless, patting his back.
"It's going to hurt, a lot," I say softly, "the pain will get a bit easier, through time. You'll still feel it, and you'll still miss them, but it'll get better. I promise."
Rainbow Steve goes quiet, still holding on to me. "Sabre?" he asks quietly.
"Yeah?" I respond, rubbing circles in his back to calm him down some.
"I want to get revenge on whatever killed my brother."
~Rainbow Steve's POV~
"I want to get revenge on whatever killed my brother," I say sternly, and Sabre doesn't say anything for a moment.
"I'll help you," he finally says, and I wipe my tears from my eyes.
"You will?" I ask, and he nods.
"I know exactly how you feel, so yes, I'll help," he smiles softly at me, and I find my face heating up a bit. Probably from the cold, I reason to myself silently.
"When can we do it? We'll have to catch a boat so we can get there," I say, and he ruffles my hair.
"We'll head out soon, don't worry; should we go back to the creed for a bit?" he asks, and I hesitantly nod.
"Come on, Rainbow Steve, whatever hurt your brother isn't going to get away with it, alright?" he says, and I nod.
"Thank you, Sabre," I say quietly as we start walking back.
"Of course. Just don't tell anybody that I got a soft spot, alright?" he asks, and I can't help but smile.
"No promises."
