Tokoyami's PoV

"You look familiar, but I'm not sure. Are you a hero?"

Tsu has her finger on her chin as she says this, and I sigh internally. Shikumaru isn't a hero officially but he does help out the heroes once and a while. He goes by Eagle Eye, and I've only seen him in action once. That was when Stain attacked Ingenium. Even if Shikumaru didn't get Stain he was still pretty cool.

"Not officially. I don't have a license, but I help out the actual heroes and just fade into the background. Fumi's seen me in action a few times, but mostly I stay in the shadows." My brother says and Tsu looks at me, a puzzled expression on her face.

"So the police and heroes don't care that you're not licensed? That doesn't make sense." Tsu says and I shrug.

"It may not make sense but in a way, Shikumamru is kind of an underground hero. The public isn't supposed to know who he is and he actually gets mistaken for Hawks which only helps his cover story." I explain and Shikumaru nods.

"Hawks is actually our uncle, and before you ask, he knows and he's completely fine with me being mistaken for him. Although once I was caught by the press and they did a whole story about 'Who the Hawks Impostor Really Is' and I got publicity for pretty much the first time." He says and Tsu puts her finger on her cheek.

"That's why I recognized your name, ribbit. I saw that article!" She exclaims and Shikumaru nods.

"A lot of people did. Pretty much everyone who saw it assumes that I actually have a license, but just don't like publicity. I'm hoping to get one soon though, Hawks and some other heroes are helping me out. So far, I've completed about half of the training that UA would have given me if I had enrolled and gotten in." Shikumaru explains. "And don't get me wrong, I could get in easily. It's just that I don't really have an address for mail or anything and they would question that."

Tsu nods and I cross my arms. I check the time on my phone and see that it's nearly nine.

"What time is it, Tokoyami?" She asks and I look up.

"Almost nine. You should probably be getting home."

Tsu nods and looks like she's about to hop away when she remembers she's on a platform in a tree.

"Need some help?" Shikumaru asks and she nods. He picks her up the same way he had before and flies off, leaving me alone in his nest.

Flashback

"What the fuck is wrong with you? Why the hell do you have a fucking bird head? Eagle claws? Fucking wings? What the hell?" I hear my dad shout from the living room. Shikumaru had woken up and seen himself, excited about the fact that he had finally gotten his quirk. Eagle.

He had talons, an eagle head, and wings now, and he had been able to fly instantly. I was cowered in a ball on my bed, my own bird-like head in my hands. I had been born with a black bird head, crimson eyes and a yellow beak. But no quirk. My dad thought that the bird-head was my quirk but then he realized that it was just a mutation.

Shikumaru ran into our room, crying.

"Shiku! Are you okay? What happened?" I asked, worried. I still couldn't say his first name, it was just too hard for me. So I just called him Shiku.

"N-nothing, everything is fine, Fumi." He says and wipes his eyes with the back of his hand. Suddenly our dad burst into the room, angry and frightening. I shrink back and so does Shikumaru.

"Okay you little shits listen up. I don't fucking want freaks as children. So you are gonna leave and never come back, or you both are gonna have hell to pay." He says and throws a small backpack at each of us. I flinch when it hits me and look up at the man who is supposed to be my father in fright.

"Get packing. I expect you both to be gone in less than an hour." He says and slams the door. I start crying and Shikumaru crawls over to me, putting his arms around me.

"Shhhh, it's gonna be okay. We should probably leave though. How about we go to Uncle Hawks? He always liked us." I hear my older brother say and I nod, getting up and putting some of my clothes in one of the backpacks. I also grab my favorite plush, a raven. I hold it and put on the backpack, going downstairs quietly. Shikumaru follows close behind, his new talons making soft clicks on the hardwood floor. We're almost to the door when our mom comes in.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing? Trying to leave? Well I'm not gonna have either of you freaks go out into public. Get back to your room. Now!" She yells and Shikumaru tries to explain what dad told us.

"D-dad told us to leave and never come back. That's what we're doing." He says and she comes forward and slaps him, making my brother fall.

"Well then don't listen to that bastard. I want you to stay in your fucking room and not come out 'till dinner. Well? What the fuck are you still here for? Go, you little shits!" She yells at us and I help Shikumaru up and we run to our room.

"I'm sorry, Fumi. I wish things were different."

Ok sorry about the really long wait, I've just been busy with school,  Cross Country, homework, and other stories. Imma try to update all my stories on the same day. Also, I do write all my stories on my phone so if you're on a computer I'm sorry if the paragraphs are really short, on my phone they look fine.
