7: Going to the cops

Elena

I woke up and slowly looked around, it took me a moment to remember where I was. Then I realized that I was in the forest. I was looking for my mom and Liam. I opened the car door and climbed carefully out.

"Mom? Liam?" I called out into the woods.

When I heard nothing I sighed and looked back at the truck. I walked around it to see what the damage was but it was a little strange to me. There was only damage to the front passenger side. Hmm maybe she tried to swerve to miss it?
So, if they weren't seriously injured, where were they? Why weren't they looking for me? As I thought about that night a little more, there was another thing that didn't make any sense.

"Why wasn't I anywhere near the car? How did I end up in the middle of the woods?" I said to myself, knowing I wouldn't get any answers here.

While I was looking at the busted windshield of the suv I heard a noise, like a twig breaking. I looked around as my heart started beating frantically. Had Alec found me?

"H-Hello? Is anyone there?" I said. I waited to see or hear anything move but it was quiet, almost in an eerie way. I sighed to myself, just my imagination, nothing to worry about, I said to myself.

I sighed to myself then got into the car to see if it would start, to my surprise it did. I checked the gas and decided to go to the nearest town so I could get some help finding my mom. I punched it into the gps and pulled around the remains of the tree before starting down the road. Then I heard wolves howling behind me, they sounded kinda close. Do wolves roam in the daylight? I thought they slept during the day and came out at night, at least that's what I'd read. The weirdness of it made me feel a bit strange and panicky, I shook it off and pushed it from my mind.

I pulled into Olympia just as the sun was setting. I looked down at the GPS to check the directions and headed towards the police station. I parked the SUV in their parking lot and got out of the car.

I started towards the door but felt a sharp pain shoot up my leg. Until now I'd completely forgotten I twisted my ankle, I slowly limped to the station. I walked through the door, a bell jingle, and an officer sitting behind a desk looked up at me. I must have looked a mess after my run through the woods because she jumped up and rushed over to help me into a seat.

"I'm going to call an ambulance to have you checked over, please stay here," the officer said, looking me over and talking in my injuries. Then she went off to make the call and another officer came up to me.

"What happened to you ma'am?" He asked.

I opened my mouth to answer him and was interrupted by someone clearing their throat. I turned my head and I gasped in surprise. It was Alec! What the hell? I started to panic.

"Lieutenant Bennett, I will talk to this young lady."

The officer next to me smiled at him and nodded, "Understood, Commander Lambert. Young lady it was nice to meet you," The officer said then walked away.

I frowned up at Alec. "How did you find me?" I whispered to him.

He sighed and crouched down next to me then gently picked my ankle and rested it on his knee. "Is this from running away?" He asked, ignoring my question.

I crossed my arms. I can play this game, I said to myself. I tried to move my ankle away from him but he gripped my foot and it hurt to continue pulling against him.

"I didn't know that you worked here," I said, talking in his uniform. "Since it's your job, can you help me find my mom and son?"

"Well if you'd stuck around long enough I could've told you. And yes, I already told you I was going to help you with that before you ran away."

I shook my head at him disagreeing, "Sure you said that, but then you wouldn't let me go look for her."

Before he could say anything else the female officer returned, "The ambulance is its way. Here's some ice for your ankle."

She handed the ice pack to Alec. He smiled and thanked her before putting the ice on my ankle. I wince from the coldness of it. A few minutes passed and you could hear the sirens. I sighed to myself, I seriously didn't want to go in an ambulance. I saw the paramedics as they entered the building and I started to panic.

I looked up at Alec, "Ummm, they aren't going to poke me with needles are they?" I asked him, fearful.

He took my hand and nodded at me. I swallowed and looked away as they approached with a big bag. I heard them sit the bag down and a couple of them kneeled beside me.

"Okay ma'am we're going to get some vitals on you and start an IV, then we'll load you into the truck okay?"

I nodded and squeezed Alec's hand. They put a blood pressure cuff on one arm and rolled up my sleeve on the other. I saw the needle and buried my head in Alec's chest. I felt the needle go into my skin, I had to bite my lip to keep from whimpering in fear.

"It's all done, we have the IV in ma'am. All we have to do now is get you on the stretcher," the EMT said softly to me. I slowly nodded my head and I was lifted onto the stretcher.

Alec bent down and whispered into my ear, "Everything is going to be ok. I'll be right behind you, ok?"

-Alec-

I watched her be wheeled off into the ambulance. I turned around and looked for the lieutenant.

"Lieutenant Bennett! I'm going to be following the ambulance. So you're in charge around here until I'm done. If you need anything though call me," I told him as I headed towards the door.

"Yes sir!" I heard him say as the door closed behind me.

I got into my police car and followed behind the ambulance. As I was following I mind linked with my beta

"Luke, I found her. You can call off the hunt."

"Understood, Alpha. Should I speak to her mother?"

"No, I will handle that on my own."

"Okay, sir. I'm glad our Luna is safe."

I shut the mind link off as I pulled into the hospital and rushed inside. I sniffed the air searching for her scent, she smelled like mint and apples. I followed the scent to a hospital room, before entering I heard voices and stopped to listen. What I didn't expect to hear was yelling....

"Get out dad! Mom and I don't want anything to do with you! Especially after what you did to me! So go before I scream!" Elena said.

"Look, I know what I did was wrong. But I'm serious, you shouldn't be here! It's not safe! Especially if Liam is with your mom," the man said, deeply concerned.

I decided to go on in. I cleared my throat to get their attention, "Excuse me sir, but I think she just told you to leave," I said trying to keep the anger out of my voice.

The man looked back and forth between me and Elena with a frown, then walked towards the door. Before leaving he looked back at her and said, "Please, think about what I said. I only want you safe." Then he left.

I looked at her and saw tears in her eyes. I rushed over to her worried.

"Are you ok?" I asked softly, taking her hand. She blinked her eyes a couple of times and smiled.

"I'm fine, the doctor said I just sprained my ankle and I'm a little dehydrated."

"That's not what I meant, but thanks for letting me know that your ankle isn't broken."

She looked down at our hands, "I know it's just I don't know how or where to start with him" she whispered.

"How about the beginning?"

"Ok, well that was my dad. He's the reason we move out here. He had an affair with my ex boyfriend. Then he left me and my mom without even telling us why."

I don't know what surprised me more, the fact that she'd had boyfriends or the fact that one of them had sex with her dad.

"Umm, I don't know what to say," I said rubbing my neck.

"I completely understand I felt that way too when I caught them in the act," she said, looking a little pale. Then she shuddered as if remembering it all over again.

I squeezed her hand gently, "I'm sorry."

"Anyways, sooo did you find any leads on my mom and Liam?" She asked me.

I pulled my hand away from hers, "No we don't know where they are yet, but my best people are out there looking for them. But there's something I need to tell you about her."

"Okay? What is it?"

"Now I know it's not my place to tell you this, but I feel like you should know this. Your mom and dad aren't your actual parents..."

Just then his phone rang interrupting them. He looked up at her apologetically and stepped into the hall to answer his phone. A few minutes later he came back inside.

"I'm really sorry, but we'll have to finish this later. Something has come up that needs my immediate attention."
