chapter fifteen
“I need to see her! Please let me in! I must see her now!” Sarah screeched in the main hall just inside the lobby of the large building.
The building held four master suites for the Alpha, his mate, the beta and the beta’s mate. All on the top two floors. The other sixteen floors held the largest computer tech business in the city. It ran everything from gaming servers, to the most complex information network systems linking the outside world to the underground networks of the mythical creatures on the planet. King Lance the CEO of all communitive operations in the world. Towers of the same quality stood all over the world in each major city. Each held apartments for the CEO and his second in command. Keeping up with the business and all the werewolves and Lycan’s around the world is easier when you have an outpost in each corner of the world.
Sarah screamed at the top of her lungs in frustration as the men blocked her path. “I need to see the princess right away! Tell King Lance it is an emergency! Fates are to change if nothing is done!”
A knock on the door pulled King Lance from his thoughts. He didn’t want to leave Marilyn’s side, but being a king means he has duties that need his attention.
He pulled the door open, his eyes landing on a small girl in a business suit. “What is it?”
She gulped. “We have a disturbance in the lobby sir. A mad woman who does nothing but scream gibberish.”
Lance nodded. “Send Angela to sit with my daughter. I’ll handle this woman myself.” He walked past her pulling the door shut behind him.
The girl let out a sigh and curtsied. “Yes sir. Right away sir.” Her heels clicked as she rushed to do as she was told.
“Ugh! Just let me through!” Sarah pleaded as she tries to push her way through the guards.
The ding of the elevator stopped her struggle. Her eyes widened and she sagged with relief as the doors slid open. Lance stepped out and held up a hand to his guards. They parted and he walked over to stand in front of Sarah.
“Why are you here? You are distracting my employees.” Lance spoke in a low warning tone.
Sarah looked down at his feet. “I must speak with the princess. It is a change of fate that casts a shadow over her. One I cannot explain. I must see her and speak to her.” She felt a slight pain in her chest. “I must read her fate line. Please!”
King Lance studied her and felt the truth in her voice. Something about this new fate thing has her worried. If it worries her so much something must be wrong. “Come with me.”
Angela sat by the bed softly talking to Marilyn. “So this pack you speak of is a pack of rogues, but they are good? How is that possible? Rogue werewolves are heartless beasts who can no longer control their blood lust.”
Marilyn smiled. “That is what I thought at first also. It seems that this band of rogues are made up of innocent people who are only called Rogues because of the alpha’s who kicked them out for being weak.”
Angela sat back with a blank look. “Maybe they are not rogues at all. They will need a council to approve the next steps of making a new pack.”
Marilyn frowned fighting back tears. “They will also need a new Alpha.”
King Lance cleared his throat. “We will visit them soon enough. The Beta there will take over and the members who wish to serve you here will be appointed rooms in the servant quarters.”
Marilyn took a sharp breath, her face taking on a look of horror. “I will never bend so low as to make anyone a servant. Not from that pack! How could you think that!”
Angela looked surprised. “But, your highness, you are a princess. No one is worthy of being more than a servant in your household.”
Marilyn shook her head and King Lance watched closely. He could feel Sarah shrink behind him. Her small body hid very well by his larger frame.
“I will not do that to anyone there! They treated me like family even if I would have been a Luna they never once treated me any different from anyone else. I won’t look down on them.” Marilyn said blankly.
Angela stood and looked at King Lance with a worried expression. She bowed her head and quickly left the room, pausing slightly when her eyes landed on the witch behind King Lance. Sarah paled but said nothing, folding her hands to keep them from shaking.
Marilyn glared at King Lance. “Is that the behavior that is expected of me? To treat people like they are lower than me? Like. Like dust!”
King Lance stepped closer to the bed. “No. It is not expected. It is just how it has always been. We do not mistreat the people who work for us or belittle them. We house them and feed them and pay them for their work. We give them jobs and they willingly do them.”
Sarah peeked around King Lance to see Marilyn. Their eyes met and the tension in the room grew. Marilyn struggled to swing her legs to the side of the bed. Her determination to stand quickly eating away at her strength.
Sarah moved forward falling on the floor in a full body bow. “Please forgive me. I did not know the twins were there! Please I beg you! I should have known that was a trap. I thought it to be safe. I trusted the Alpha there, and you paid the heaviest price! Please forgive me!” Sarah begged, her voice and body shaking with the tears flowing from her eyes.
Marilyn looked down at the sobbing witch. “You couldn’t have changed anything anyway. Get up. Because of you nothing went as planned! I lost both my homes and my second mate because of you!” Marilyn sneered. “You need to leave before I rip your head off. I don’t trust you and I never will!”
King Lance sat down beside Marilyn. “She works for me. I sent her to spy for me. It is truly my fault this happened.”
Marilyn let out a slow breath. “I can’t stay here. I want to go home. Without Jason I don’t know if I have a home anymore.” Lance watched a tear roll down Marilyn’s cheek.
“You will always have a home here. I am your father and I want you to stay here. With me.” King Lance said softly reaching up to wipe the tear away.
Marilyn flinched away and Sarah slowly sat up. Her head stayed bowed. “Your Jason still lives.”
King Lance and Marilyn both snapped their attention to Sarah. Their eyes on her small body.
“He is weak, but he is still alive. His beta is with him right now. He has yet to awaken, but his heart still beats.” Sarah said with a gentle tone.
“If you choose him, you will forever be pulled apart. If you choose the other, you will live a long happy life with many pups.” Her voice sounded soft in the air. “Jason will live but to choose him will be to choose a life of hardship and he will not find the mate who will give him pups. Lycanthrope and werewolves can not mate without death upon the weaker soul. He is strong, but he is limited to the power you possess.” Sarah let a tear fall from her eye.
The most important part of the fate line Sarah kept to herself. Being half werewolf and half Lycanthrope Marilyn could hold the mark of both mates and produce a pup from either one and survive. The loyalty to King Lance kept her from giving this information. A princess capable of holding more than one mark is dangerous. Giving the werewolves a chance to take the Lycanthrope kingdom by blood tie. Sarah read the stars and Marilyn held the key to creating a werewolf breed that could shift on any night instead of the one night a month. It could be dangerous to the lycanthropes.
Although lycanthropes are considered werewolves by humans, the two are vastly different. Werewolves are more prone to blood lust and lack the control to chain it down. Lycanthropes are more adept at this, and only wipe out entire packs of werewolves in order to save the humans, and keep the rumors of their existence down.
Werewolves fear lycanthropes, and lycanthropes fear knowledge. The more knowledge the humans have, the closer they will be to learning how to kill the population.
Sarah peeked up at Marilyn. Her face is pale and her hands gripped the sheet like a vice. Her eyes wide in surprise. King Lance sat with a quiet rage. He knew something was missing. His eyes felt like hot bars of iron on her skin. Sarah shook with fear. She could not let them know the potential that Marilyn held in her small hands. She could bring forth two different futures and with the power to change fate came the power to summon disaster.
The future of werewolves and Lycanthropes rest on this small girls shoulders. She is the first half breed of her kind and holds more power than the strongest witch. A power almost equal to the Moon Goddess herself. She has the power to create a new breed of werewolf, and one that can rival Lycanthropes.
