Chapter 19: Wars End
Percy's POV:
I woke up on the floor of Artemis's tent with her in my arms. I gently, woke Artemis up, trying not to make her mad, she's not really a morning person, or well I guess goddess. She woke up and seemed to remember last night instantly and where we currently were. "When you said you wouldn't leave me, I didn't think you would have been this serious" she joked
"haha very funny," I said, "But we should probably get a move on with our day before campers start to wake up", With that, we got up off the floor and headed to breakfast.
Time skip
Surprisingly not that long after breakfast our reinforcements came, being led by Clarisse. Once, we were in privacy, we started going over the plan starting with taking over the mortal side of Hades's realm.
"Wait... so you are saying that, they are going to leave this side unguarded," Clarisse asked
"Possibly, and if it's not, it could be anywhere from lightly guarded to being heavily guarded. However, that will cost them in security in the underworld, so they will likely combine the defenses and their security" I said, "and also, from our current intel, they have to have guards on Nico and his prison cell to prevent him from escaping and trying to lead an uprising"
"How did we get this intel," Clarisse asked
"The hunt has ways of...extracting information, even from the most unwilling of soldiers of the dead," I said
"and you trust it"
"Yes, but back to the plans. We have three objectives once we get to the underworld. The first and likely most difficult is getting everyone past Cerberus, generally, we know he would go after a red rubber ball. But we don't know how he will act with so many living and the fact that we are at war, so we need to be prepared for a fight with him, and he's smarter than the average hellhound, making it more problematic. The second and third are simultaneous missions. Clarisse, You and Thalia will lead half of our forces down into the dungeons, and free Nico from his cell" I said
"So, while we are doing that, what are you and the others going to do" Thalia asked
"The dangerous and stupid thing. Finding and facing the lord of the dead, and whoever else is with him" I said, "However, I expect if we make it there we will be met with equal resistance from both goals"
"So, we are going down to face Hades and his armies in his own realm likely will be trapped down there with no possibility of getting reinforcements, unless we win," Clarisse said, "did I miss anything"
I shared a look with Thalia before we both said "yeah you got the jest of it"
"Has it been done before" she asked
"Well, yes and no. Yes it has been done before, but not without the blessing of Achilles, and we don't have enough time to go through the pre-ritual for that" I said
"Then who done it"
"me," I said. We then split up to gather the troops, to march to either death or victory.
LINE BREAK
We were all heading down to DOA recording studios, to take it over and storm into hell. However, there's both good and bad news about the status of the entrance. Bad news: it was guarded by two gods. Good News: These are the two most incompetent Gods you could have chosen for the job, Apollo and Dionysius, both of whom were sitting up against the building asleep.
"Uh, what should we do with them," Clarisse asked
"I don't know, Thalia"
"The hunt will gladly take care of this problem," she said with an evil smirk on her face, drawing a slight shiver from most.
All the sudden both gods were tied up individually in celestial bronze chains, and then the hunt tied both of them together with more chains, and Thalia's smile only seemed to be growing. She called down a strike of lightning striking the two gods, waking both up. "Ouch Dionysius what happened," Apollo asked tiredly.
"I don't know why are asking me," he said
"wait, Dionysius, shhhhhh, we are tied up, we don't want to release any information," Apollo said with slurred speech.
I leaned over to Artemis and Thalia and whisper-asked if they were both drunk and/or hungover to which they both nodded.
"Brother, I cannot believe you are already drunk this early in the morning, "Artemis said
"Ohhh good, sister you're here, could...*burp* could you free us," Apollo said
"I'm in agree*burp*ment with him," Dionysius said
I cannot believe that they have either forgotten about the war or have gotten so dam drunk that they forgot about the war. "I am not going to free you," She said, a bit angrily, "I am here to bring you to Olympus for your crimes against it," she said calmly
"What crimes are you talking about, lil sis" Apollo said, he's going to be a dead man.
"Treason, Brothers, you committed treason when you declared war against Olympus," she said, and Apollo, if possible, seemed to pale, before she flashed them to Olympus, presumably to the throne room.
"I'll be going now. good luck my hunters and demigods. I hope to see you all again" she said, before flashing herself off.
Of course, Charon had to ask if we had all died and if we had coins for passage. "Charon you know dam well that all of us are alive, there wouldn't be this many half-bloods coming to you at once," I said, not wanting to deal with it.
"Not dead, no coin, no passage," he said
"how about you take us down there before we kill you, and guide ourselves down there to finish the war with Hades" I suggested, "I do believe you have heard of the deaths of Palaemon, Triton, and Heracles. As well as the loss of Athena, Bellona, Deimos, and Phobos" I said, "would you like to be added to that list"
"Don't let them in Charon, they will destroy order in the underworld" Annabitch said
"shut it Annabeth," Thalia said, Annabeth tried to attack her but fazed right through her.
"Your forgetting, you are dead Annie," Thalia said looking at her, "I thought Luke and I raised you better, but apparently I am wrong and am only left in disappointment," Thalia said. I would say that that was harsh, but she kind of deserves it. Of course, this is also where the idiot tries to attack me.
"You're dead, Peter, you can't do anything now go back to waiting somewhere over there with your equally dead girlfriend," I said. They looked at Charon who just waved them off to a couch and told them to wait like the others.
"so Charon death or are you going to give us all a ride"
"You're lucky the boat is currently empty, but you likely won't be returning," he said
"We are aware" I responded, and he lead us over to the empty elevator, and took us down to cross the river Styx.
LINE BREAK
Charon dropped us off on the other side and left us. "Let us see if we can pass Cerberus before we set up camp," I said, pulling out a red rubber ball, along with Thalia and Clarisse. Although the latter questioned why we need them.
We walked up to Cerberus, and he eyed the three rubber balls. While Thalia and I kept his attention with the three balls, Clarisse lead the army through into the fields of Asphodel. Once, everyone was through Thalia and I threw a ball for each of the heads and he returned with the balls and dropped the three of them for us to throw again. We tossed them back to each head and told him that, if he could keep the balls in a playable condition we would come back and play fetch with him again, soon.
We moved into the fields of Asphodel and set up an encampment before moving on with our mission. Once we marched out of our encampment it only took a couple of minutes, before Hades' army came to meet us, and I'm not talking about a part of it, he sent the rest of his entire army to fight, us easily outnumbering us at least 5 to one. We formed up quickly sending the younger hunters to the back with the archers from Apollo, with Emily heading back to keep the young ones and Apollo's cabin in line, though I think she went there to keep watch over her little sister, and the other young ones more than to keep everyone in line.
The other hunters led by Thalia drew their hunting knives or other weapons of choice. Emily started ordering the firing of volleys of arrows into the enemy lines. Once their front line came within a few feet of us, I heard the order to fire upon the back lines of the enemy.
We were deep in the fighting for what felt like hours, maybe even longer, but the number quickly dwindled on their side and our injuries also racked up, once the Apollo cabin ran out of arrows they started dragging our injured back to the encampment where Will set up a battlefield infirmary.
AN: I know I didn't bring up Will much in this story, but he's here, mainly because I remember now...and Solangelo.
We continued fighting until there was only Clarisse, Thalia, the hunt(An: including the young ones, I'm not a monster), and Myself. The Apollo cabin retired so they can take care of the injured. We pushed through and I realized there was only one left before Clarisse and Thalia, both stabbed the poor fellow, and proceeded to argue over who's kill it was, the entire way back to our encampment.
We arrived, and I asked an Apollo camper, what the numbers were. He told me that we came out with three critical injuries, 24 major, and the rest were minor but required a day of rest. Which I don't think we had, so that left me with a tough choice. Fight now with reduced numbers, or risk waiting and them regaining numbers.
I talked with Thalia, Clarisse, and the hunt to see if they felt confident in their ability to free Nico, which they were. In hindsight, I shouldn't have asked the hunt if they can or can't do something, because I am pretty sure they won't ever deny a challenge.
So, I made the decision and told the campers to guard the encampment, while we go off and finish the war. I wasn't going to risk those three's lives by keeping them here longer than necessary, especially when there is a chance I can get them out of here, and to better medical care.
Once, we go to the Palace Thalia, Clarisse and the hunt went off to the dungeons and I went alone in search of Hades.
I was nearing the throne room when I started to wonder, where the kindly ones were. My wondering was cut off when I heard a distance but loud For Nico, a battle cry coming likely from Thalia. I guess they were guarding Nico. I broke down the throne room door to see my ex-father's, and the rest of the traitors' empty thrones, and then Hades sitting on his throne looking just as old as my father did when he had to deal with Oceanus in the titan war. However, he had a smug look on his face like he was planning my demise. Nevertheless, I challenged him to a fight, for his surrender in the war. Which was a mistake because I didn't make it a solo combat challenge.
I fought with Hades, being careful to avoid his sword, I made a few small cuts on him though. I know his best weapon isn't a sword and wondered why he wasn't using his traditional weapon, a bident, I guess it could have been destroyed and that's why Persephone made his swords. I kept up my fighting in dodging until I finally got the upper hand on him. I made a deep gash into his stomach and was then about to put a final blow down on him when I was kicked from behind and into a wall. I started seeing red and guessed that Ares was here, and I started trying to suppress my negative emotions, but standing beside him was an old-looking man with a trident. I recognized him as he looked very familiar with how he did in the closing days of the titan war.
"So Ares, are you here to surrender to me, or are you going to get a small cut in your leg and run off again," I said, and ohh did that last part do the trick. He started slashing at me wildly, "Oh good try, it's better than I expect from a coward such as yourself". His eyes started glowing a fairly bright red and I knew I was under his skin. His swings got wild and I had to start deflecting a few, to keep my head. "You know Ares, for being the god of war, you honestly suck at fighting. I mean you lost to a twelve-year-old with barely any training. So, little in fact, he was practically untrained in comparison to the thousands of years that you had" I finished, and that just nearly did it he almost completely lost control.
"You know I wonder if you sat around thinking more about sex than practicing, training, or maintaining your domains. Ohh wait, I don't have to wonder because that's what you did right" I pondered to him aloud, now that did it. He lost complete control of his anger, and I just waited for the opening before stabbing him through the chest, roughly where his heart is. He, however, stopped nearly all movement after the stabbing. I kicked him off my blade twisting it as it came out of his body. I didn't even have time to turn before I got hit by something that felt like a pole and went flying into one of the walls.
I staggered up to see my ex-father checking over Ares, and Hades, looking more dead than alive. "So, you are a coward to then. Not facing me to face to face, as an honorable adversary" I said
"You know nothing of honor, boy. Why should I show you any" Poseidon said turning to glare at me
"Oh please elaborate, oh great and honorable Poseidon" I sneered
"What you did to Jason, what you did to Heracles, what you did to your brothers, and what you did to my lieutenant"
"Jason, well out of all I have fought in this war he's the only one who had the look of regret in his eyes. Heracles, as far as I am concerned that bastard deserved far worse than what he got. I had nothing to do with Peter. As for Palaemon and Triton, it's war what do you expect no casualties" I countered on each of his points.
"The honorable thing would have been to wait for the king to return to his kingdom before attacking it"
"Oh sorry that my time of the attack was not convenient for you," I said, "so are we going to fight or not," I asked, I'm still bidding for the control of the underworld before you and Ares interfered"
"fine but, if I win the seas come back to me," he said, before attacking
For an elder god, Poseidon was slow, for Hera's sake, he was slower than Hades, by a considerable amount. I decided I would be merciful, and not draw this out any longer than it had to be. I stabbed my father rather quickly, and I saw the light drain from his eyes, but I didn't see any look of regret as I did with Jason. Just then, the others burst through the door, with skin and bone Nico. I'm happy we didn't bring Will to the palace, he would've had a heart attack at the sight of Nico.
Hades looked at me in defeat and said he would officially surrender on Olympus. The hunt, however, didn't trust his words and bound him before healing his gut wound. We lead Hades, to our encampment and dragged the bodies of the two dead Olympians. When the others saw us and the bodies they started to raise cheers of victory, that is until Will saw Nico.
