Chapter 17
Niccolo Knights
Yesterday was a day full of surprises and unexpected situations. Olivia showed me the side of her that a lot of people didn't know, which was her good side, I assume. After we had ice cream, Zac called her to report in their office, she bid her goodbyes to us and promised Dylan that she will come visit him again. I smiled at the thought of her spending time with Dylan.
When I first saw her comforting Dylan, I couldn't believe what I saw but when I watched her actions towards him, I just couldn't believe that she knows how to handle and be patient with a toddler even while throwing a fit. Then another surprise thrown at me was when she's unknowingly diplomatic at me and teasing me about my clearing of the throat. This woman sure really knows how to use her observations and use it against you. I chuckled.
"I'm sure you're chuckling not because of that graph in front of you but because of something else?" I looked up surprise to see Alex sitting in front of me looking at his phone. I furrowed my brows confused because I didn't hear or sensed him come in.
"Since when are you here?" I asked in horror.
"Since you flipped on that page." He looked at me and pointed the graph I was holding then added, "I think it's been 10 minutes now since you started staring at that graph. Was it funny? Because if it is, enlighten me how." He queried and placed his phone on my table.
"None of your business, Alex. So, what are you doing here?" I asked while I leaned back on my chair.
"I'm here to see you and little Dylan, but according to Didith, you didn't bring the little Devil today. Was he at home or he's with someone else?" he asked while wriggling his eyebrows, quite funny actually.
"He's at his piano class. And why did you think he's with someone else?" I queried and looked at my wristwatch to see what time is it.
"Well, considering this" he opened his phone and showed me a picture of Olivia carrying Dylan and me carrying her hand bag as we were buying ice cream yesterday. I raised my brows, leaned on my table and asked, "What about it?"
"What do you mean, what about it? Nick, you're dating Olivia North." He said
"Yeah, I remember you bursted in here asking me about that. Now, what do you want? You're making this a big deal."
"When you're dating the North heiress, of course this is a big deal. Especially when she's already bonding with your son." He answered me and showed me pictures of us yesterday. I don't know what he's battling about.
"Care to explain to me, Alexander?" I queried.
"Actually, it's fine if you date her, she's drop dead gorgeous and sexy." I frowned when I heard him praise Olivia like that. What he said was true but I don't like it when another man noticed and voiced it out in front of me.
"But don't you think it's too early to let her bond with Dylan? Especially when you still don't know where your relationship are heading. You are still in the early stage of dating, Nick, what if Dylan got attached to her and started to think of her as his mother? You said it before that you and her broken up and just rekindled your relationship a few weeks ago, didn't you think that this will happen again in the future? What if the next time you two broken up, it's really the end? Not only you will get affected but it will surely and greatly affect your son." He paused assessing my reaction but I kept on my poker face. I raised my brows to encourage him to continue.
He sighed.
"Please don't be mad but in my opinion, I don't think that Olivia is fit to be around with Dylan. Your son is a good kid and I care for him. Also, everyone knows what kind of person Olivia North is, I don't want Dylan to acquire the bad attitude that woman has." He finished and leaned back on his chair.
I sighed and smiled because I'm so grateful to have Alex as my best friend. He cares a lot for Dylan. I remember when I had a sudden meeting outside the country and my parents, my sister, Theresa, and my brother's family were in London having a vacation. I didn't know whom I would leave Dylan with but then this asshole called me informing me that he has no flights scheduled for that week hence he's free for the entire week, with that I decided to ask and forced him to babysit my son for three days.
Alexander Vice, my best friend, was a pilot and his family owns the Vice Air, an airline company. He rarely have rest days so imagine his horror when I asked him a favor to babysit my son.
"You know, you're right Alex. I shouldn't let Dylan be emotionally attached to Olivia. But since I'm marrying her, I need her and him to be comfortable with each other." I said and saw the shocked face of my best friend.
"You what?!" he shouted and stood up as if I had grown multiple heads.
"You will marry Olivia North?! Did you already proposed to her? What the fuck man? Are you sure about this? You marrying that kind of woman?" he asked while pacing back and front.
I frowned.
"Yes, and didn't I tell you before that she's not the kind of woman the media portrays her about." I defended her.
"No man, I saw a footage of her being a bitch where she threw the doughnut to the cashier lady." He told me.
I sighed, classic Olivia.
"She may have a temper problem but she has reasons on why she's done that. Dude, try to get to know her, she's different. Can't you just be happy for me?" I persuaded him and he raised both of his arms as if surrendering.
"Fine, but if something happens, don't tell me I didn't warn you." he sat again in front of me and leaned back to the chair.
"Wait, how did Anthony North reacted when he knew you're dating his daughter?" he asked after a while.
"He was ecstatic." I said as I remembered him smiling broadly during our lunch after we announced our relationship.
"When are you planning to propose?" queried and stood up.
"Soon." I stated but those were just empty words. I really still don't have a plan on what will happen, I didn't even know if Olivia's still up for this or not? She is a ticking time bomb.
"Well good to know. Anyway, I have places to be so goodbye and good luck to your relationship. Oh, and give this to Dylan." He said and he handed me a paper bag.
"Thanks, man." I thanked him and he blew a kiss from his lips. I looked at him in disgust and just laughed and head out.
-----------------------------------
"Mom, I'm sorry ok." I apologized to her while clutching my phone on my right ear as I buckled Dylan on his car seat. Currently, I'm talking to my mom because apparently, she just knew about me dating Olivia on the news.
"No, young man. If it isn't about the news, we wouldn't know about Olive." she sneered. I sighed and smiled at Dylan when he showed me his new robot from Alex.
"It's Olivia, mom. Look, I will tell it to you but I was busy these days." I explained as I was done buckling Dylan and closed the car door then walked around to the driver's seat.
"You couldn't lift your phone and dial our number?" she countered and I hopped inside my car.
"I'm sorry, ok. I just didn't think that it's important." I reasoned out again in an exasperated voice. I connected my phone to the Bluetooth of my car and pressed speaker.
"When will we meet her, Niccolo?" my father asked.
"Soon, okay. We both are currently busy in our work. I will inform you when will be coming." I assured them.
"Hi gwandpa." Dylan suddenly greeted.
"Hello young man. How are you doing?"
"I'm good. I just came from my piawo wesson. Oh, I have a new wobot, Uncle Awex gifted it to me." He blabbered. Thank God for my son's interruption, I don't think I can still manage to lie.
"Did you say thank you to Uncle Alex?" My mom asked.
"I haven't but dad did, I guess. Daddy, did you say thank you to Uncle Awex fow me?" he asked me, I looked at the rearview mirror and saw him had a confused look on his face.
"Yes, young man, I did, but you still have to thank him later on okay?" I said as I ook a right turn.
"Owkey, dad. Gwandma, daddy said he thanked Uncle Awex a while ago."
"We heard, young man. Anyway, we have to go now. Remember to always be a good boy, okay Dylan? And always listen to your daddy." My mom said.
"Owkey gwandma. I wuv you." I smiled when I heard him.
"I love you too, honey. Good bye Niccolo, I will wait for you and Olivia to come visit here." She stated and I sighed deeply.
"I will call you mom when. I love you." And the line went dead.
Geez, how can I invite Olivia to our house? She will surely be eaten alive by my family especially my mom and grandma. As per her attitude, I don't think she will be rude to them seeing how she acted yesterday with Didith, Edna, and Mandy.
I was pulled out of my thought when my phone rang. I looked at the LED screen in front of me and saw Zac's name.
"Zac." I answered
"Nick, where are you?" he asked in a rushed voice.
"I'm on my way home, why?"
"Can you do me a favor, please? Can you pick up Olivia for me? She's currently at our building's lobby waiting for me. She didn't bring her car because I picked her up a while ago because we had an early meeting with Mr. Sherate at the port. I promised to take her home but I'm still in a meeting. Can you please pick her up?" he pleaded.
"Ok. I will." I agreed because why not? Besides, I wanted to see her also.
"Thanks, man. Take care of my sister or else." I chuckled and took a U-turn.
"I will man." The call ended.
I arrived at the North's building and asked the lobby guard if I can park my car by the sidewalk and he agreed.
I walked out and unbuckled Dylan from his car seat and together, we went inside the building.
As we entered the lobby I immediately saw Olivia sitting on one of the couches and busy typing something in her laptop. We approached her and by the time we neared her, Dylan wriggled his hand from and started running towards Olivia, I called over him and that caught Olivia's attention. She looked up surprised and smiled when she saw Dylan. She shut her laptop, put it inside her Birkin, and caught Dylan and hugged him happily.
"Hey little man, what are you doing here?" she asked cheerfully as she carried him, she looked up form him and saw me, I smiled at her and she returned my smile.
"Daddy said we will pick you up." Dylan told her as her hugged her again. She looked at me as if asking for an explanation.
"Zac called me, he said that he's still in the middle of a meeting so he can't take you home. He asked me to do it instead." I explained and took her handbag for her.
"I knew it he was lying when he said he's near." She said as she patted Dylan's nose.
"So, are you ok with me taking you home?" I asked as we started walking.
"I don't mind as long as I'm out of here." She said and shifted Dylan to her left.
"Is he heavy? You can put him down if.."
"Nope I'm fine. Besides, I've missed this little man." She said as she pinched Dylan's cheek. Dylan chuckled pinched her cheek with his little hand, Olivia laughed when he did that.
"Have you had dinner already?" I asked as we went out of the lobby.
"I haven't. Will you treat me to dinner?" she asked and we neared my car.
"If I won't?" I teased and opened the backseat to place Dylan on his car seat.
"Then I can pay for myself." She said as she put Dylan on his car seat and buckled him with ease. I was so shocked to see her doing it without any difficulties. When I had Dylan, it took me weeks to perfect how to buckle my son up but she does it perfectly.
"So, will you pay for my dinner or I will? If I will be paying for my food tonight, I will pay for Dylan's also." She said as she closed the door.
"How about me? You won't treat me?" I asked as I opened the passenger door for her. She went in with grace and took her handbag from me.
"Nope. I can clearly remember that you told me that you can fend for yourself." She smirked at me in return, I rolled my eyes and said, "Fine, I'll pay." then shut the door.
I walked to the driver's side smiling and thinking that this really is a good day.
