Chapter Sixteen - Offered Help
The two had finally arrived to the location, and K.O. couldn't have been more relieved. They hopped out of the strange area they've been traveling in, which conveniently had an exit there for the plot's sake, and quickly went inside.
This time it was a bit more cramped and messy than the other one, but neither of them seemed to mind as they were both very used to messiness. This time there was a note left out for them, and the two read it aloud at the same time.
Beware of mutant rat thingy, it likes to hang around here sometimes. Also congrats on making it this far, you haven't died yet, or at least I hope that's the case...
- Anonymous hero
"Mutant rat thingy?" K.O. asked, tilting his head in confusion as he looked at Potato. "Do you think they're talking about Fink?"
"They sure are, butthead," a voice said from behind them, causing the two to scream loudly. A figure stepped out from behind the shadows, revealing Fink.
The two quickly grabbed each other in fear and let out a loud scream. This caused Fink to immediately hush them, and they listened to her in fear of what she'd do to them. "Please don't hurt us," K.O. whimpered. "I'm too young to die. I mean, even though I really do kinda want to die it doesn't mean I really should. I haven't even gotten all my character development yet!"
Fink just stood there for a moment before she bursts out laughing. "Haha, I'm not going to hurt you," she said, continuing to laugh.
"Wait, but don't you work for Professor Venomous?" Potato asked with suspicion. "Why wouldn't you want to hurt us?"
"Used to work for him," Fink corrected. "He actually ditched me after he found a way to make my Turbo side a separate being he kind of tossed me out afterward. After that I started realizing a lot of things and then I kind of became like this anti-hero, still being loyal to the bad side but helping any heroes I could find."
K.O. and Potato just looked at her with their eyebrows raised in suspicion. "How can we know I'd you're telling the truth?" K.O. asked, crossing his arms.
"You don't, it's simply a matter of trust. Much like with that so-called anonymous hero helping you, you're trusting them, aren't you? Why not trust me?"
"This is different. You work, or worked, for Professor Venomous. We can't trust you, especially with how dangerous you both can be."
"It's no different than you trusting someone you don't know. For all you know, it could be some random villain luring you into a trap or something like that. You need to trust me when I say these things."
K.O. shuddered at the mention of T.K.O., and that's when he realized what Fink was saying was actually true. It was simply just a matter of trust and taking the risks. He didn't have any idea who this anonymous hero was, or if they were a hero at all.
K.O. assumed Potato must've realized it too, because she let out a sigh. "I suppose you're actually right, Fink," she declared. "But why would you want to help us?"
"Haven't you heard? All the extremely important and powerful villains are out looking for K.O.," she said, looking over at him. "It's actually a pretty big deal right now. If you want to get to wherever you're heading without being spotted, I'm your best bet."
K.O.'s eyes went wide. "I'm a big deal?" He asked, looking slightly uncomfortable. "How?? When?? Why?? Where?? I need answers, Fink!"
"So does everyone else, but nobody's getting them for a while. There's so much planned out that nobody here knows about, it's going to need multiple stories to explain everything." Fink glanced in front of her as she spoke, as if she were talking to someone beyond the wall. K.O. and Potato just looked at each other, confused as to what she was doing.
"Anyway," she said, looking back toward the two. "I just really am convinced you need my help right about now. I mean, you're little broccoli friend did get ripped in half by a small gang of Boxmore bots, which is pretty embarrassing if I do say so myself."
K.O. looked down at the ground when Fink mentioned this, and he really hated to admit that they real did need her help, but he knew he had to do it eventually.
"Okay, Fink," he said, letting out a small sigh. "I trust you. Starting tomorrow night, you'll help us around the city, okay?"
"Deal!" She said, nodding her head quickly in response, smiling a small bit.
"Okay then," K.O. responded, finally uncrossing his arms after forever.
"Then it's settled."
