It all started about 6 years before the dragons disappeared. My Mom was expecting my little sister, but the village healing wizards were worried. They said that it would be a hard birth, but at the time, the only thing I could think of was my sister. I would finally have a play mate! Sure I had friends in the village but we lived fairly out of town, so playing with someone was a rare treat. But the danger became all too real when mother died. It was a hard time for our family, but father still had a job and I could learn to take care of myself and Wendy (my new sister, named after my mother) while he was gone. It couldn't be too hard, right? So life moved on.

With a lot of effort, a little... no yet again a lot coaching on dad's part, and a month of burnt food to eat, I learned to cook, clean, and generally how to take care of the house. After a year passed, though, I actually became proficient! Then, one fateful morning, as I was fetching water from the hill above our house for dad's porridge when that fateful moment began. 

With a brilliant flash a white Dragon raced past, almost as if it came from the sun. It was common to see dragons where we lived for they were common in the mountains near where we lived at the time, but the mountains were treacherous and only the strongest wizards went into the mountains, and only the bravest dragons ventured out.

I watched the Dragon in awe, taking in ever detail of the glorious creature, remember that I was only around 7-8. Then, it did something that my 6 year old mind couldn't even imagine. With one flap of its glorious wings it took away my life, my home, my family. A sonic boom, with enough force to level a town was thrown at my house and it collapsed in on itself. The stones fell and the few stone windows shattered, like when I had broken a dish.

I raced, screaming down the hill, clutching the water bucket in one hand, still empty. When I finally reached what was left of my home I burst into tears, not only was the house in ruins, my father was dead and Wendy was nowhere to be found! When I was finally able to wipe the tears from my eyes and dragged father's body clear of the ruins, I realized that I wasn't alone. Turning away from the wreckage and disaster, I saw a Dragon like figure, smaller than a dragon and about the size of a large dog, but it also had no scales, it looked like it was made of wind, constantly swirling with white, blue, and tints of purple.

It blinked it's golden eyes slowly and a purple trace reached across it's horn's and tail. "W-what are you?" I asked it, shakily. "I am part of what you shall soon become, if you accept." It said in a gentle, motherly voice. I looked at it, confused. "Accept what?" I asked.

"Allow me to explain, Grandine does not like to destroy, but this was necesary," she explained. "And recently, a seer dragon has fortold the end of dragons, and then humans, unless four dragon slayers are created, of sky and wind, the essance of air, fire and embers, the essance of heat, iron and stone, the essance of earth, and water or rain, the essance of moisture. They will be well known powerful and wise beyond their age, but their sisters and brothers will not. You, as the sister of the Sky Dragon Slayer will need to travel constantly and stay under the radar as to not call any attention to yourself."

"You see, only two children of the families will be allowed to live, one to be taken and raised as a dragon slayers, like your sister, the other will be joined with the heart of the Dragon raising their sibling and become their power core, like you. Your health will be your younger sister's health, your power her power. It is a blessing and a curse. Do you accept to become one with me? Do you accept to help all of Dragon and Human kind?"

I stared. "So Wendy will be a dragon slayer? What if I don't accept?" I questioned. "If you don't accept, we will have to kill you and your sister and find a new family. Though we would prefer not too, it took almost a year for Grandine to take the guts to do this." I nodded, silent. To be honest I kind of wanted to be dead, to finally see mother again and see father, to be free from the pain of this life, but I couldn't kill Wendy and I'd never wish this on another family.

"Alright," I said. "I accept." "Good," smiled the figure. She walked forward and disappeared into me. I gasped and dropped the bucket, first the pain was harsh and intense, as if the wind we cutting me open from the inside, red hot, then it ebbed, and in it place was a pulsing power that I could almost feel like my own heart. I opened my eyes which had closed in the moment of pain.

I turned around and almost puked. There, lying lifeless, was my body. This was the first time I'd seen myself, I had never seen a mirror and I realized that I was actually quite pretty, contrary to what I had commonly believed, with long brown hair and grey eyes, now lifeless and empty.  "But you said I'd be her power core!" I shouted, confused and frustrated, "How can I if I'm dead?" 'Calm, my child,' said a voice in my head. 'I am in your mind, there is no need to yell. You are literally now the heart Iot the sky dragon, you had to leave behind that mortal body for one of sky. Now, you may do as you like, just remember,' I nod and looked down at my new body.

It seemed normal enough, like a normal body, but when I put a hand on it and it passed right through. I gasped, that's what it leaned when it said I was made of sky. 'Oh,' I thought to it. 'What shall I call you?' 'Call me Tanya.' Came the voice. I nodded, admiring the baby blue cape that swirled around in the wind covering my blue tunic, white leggings, and Brown belt and boots. "I will be known as Wisp, The wondering wind." I said, staring at the skyline. "To honor my home I will never call any other place home again, but I will travel with the wind at my back and hope someday to find Wendy. Hope that someday we could be family again." I said, finishing by staring into the sunrise with my new blue eyes and baby blue hair.
