Chapter 9: The Invasion and a New Friend

Fiona, Darla, and I woke to the door slamming open and a very flustered Gren. "What are you doing sleeping on the-" he stopped and realized why he'd come. "The Dark Types are invading! We need to fortify!" he called. My eyes went wide... Dark Types... "What are we going to do!" I said, my eyes getting wider by the second. I started pacing, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.

"Well," said Gren. "Not that for one thing. No panicking allowed. You can either hide, or join the fight." I looked at him and stopped pacing. "I'll hide. If what Silver said is true, they can't find me." I said. He nodded and said, "Then find a safe place." I nodded back and ran into the woods. I dodged a few panicking pokemon who were running in all the wrong directions and then I bumped into a Fennikan. "Ooooooooow!" she said, chasing her tail in pain for a moment, then she stopped and looked at me. "Oh," she said, with obvious distaste.

"You're that Eevee." I got off the ground, rubbing my nose. "If by that Eevee, you mean Crystal, then yeah, I'm Crystal." "Well," she said. "I'm Fenna, and I'd better get to my mom before she throws a fit and never let's me out of the house again. Geez, I was only a few hours late!" I eyeballed her. "Well," I said. "Fiona's not going to be happy." I said. She looked at me, her eyes wide. "H-how did you know that she's my mom?" she asked. "Just a hunch." I said, smirking. "And yes, I only met her last night."

The Fennikan shook her head. "Well, you're pretty perspective, aren't you?" she said. "Well, you missed something, I'm just here to see you. My mom probably isn't worried about me right now. " I thought about it, then said, "I guess she would be a little bit more worried about the invasion... but yeah. So, why did you want me?" "Look," she said. "First things first, Nico is my territory." That made me give her a weird look. "What?" she said, and without waiting for an answer, she plunged on.

"Well, your mom, my mom, and Nico's mom were friends, so I figured maybe... you know..." she said. "We could be friends?" I asked. "Yeah," she said, with a little smile. Then, a shadow ball hit the tree behind us. "Well," I said. "I'd love to but we need to get out of here!" So, we ran. Suddenly, we broke into a clearing by the lake. "Oh, there's Ripple's house!" I said, pointing at a house camouflaged in the reeds.

I walked up and knocked on the door. "Can we come in?" I asked Ripple, who opened the door. "Sure!" he said. "And maybe you can explain to me what the banging's all about."
