Part 17

Starting off with some lovely fan art from DrakonSnake <3 I wanted to put it in a chapter because of how great it is!

After leaving Keralis and Xisuma's apartment, Bdubs and Doc had decided to stop on one of the many rooftops and sit down. Mostly because Bdubs needed to take a second from walking. Bdubs grumbled silently as he clung to Doc. 'Why the heck did I have to get hit like that.' He had been beaten around before but nothing like this. On the bright side, the two of them managed to defeat Canem. The only problem was at what cost...they had left him laying there. 'Canem could have gotten up and walked away, he could be following us right now' Bdubs felt a hand rest on his hip, snapping him out of his thoughts. He looked up at Doc, the cyborg tilted his head down to him.

"How are you feeling?" He asked. Bdubs laughed as he leaned down into Doc's chest.

"Better than before." He admitted. "Ugh, why did this have to be the one time I was stupid and got hit." He mumbled angrily. Bdubs could feel Doc's chest rise as he laughed. It sent butterfly's fluttering in his chest.

"I would say the stupidity is constant," Doc commented, laughing more when Bdubs shot up to look at him. "Take it as a compliment!"

"Kind of a backhanded one." Bdubs pouted. He found himself staring at Doc's face for a moment. The condition of his face made the hero choke with worry. The cyborg's face had more fresh bruises and small cuts, with bits of dry blood staining his bottom lip. The robotic part of his face was broken and dented, with small blue and red wires sticking out from under his red mechanical eye. He looked terrible.

"Why didn't you ask Xisuma to take a look at your face," Bdubs asked.

"He was making sure you weren't bleeding out anymore." Doc said, "Besides I can patch myself up." Bdubs raised an eyebrow at his response.

"Please tell me you mean with a first aid kit, because you look like you've never used one."

"Come on! You have to admit the scars are hot." Doc teased. Bdubs tried not to laugh as cheeks went slightly red.

Doc then raised his metal hand to lightly grab Bdubs chin. Doc pulled him into a soft kiss, making Bdubs smile. "I'm just glad you're ok." Doc said as he rested his forehead against Bdubs'. Bdubs stares back at him with a giddy grin.

"Me too." Bdubs agreed, letting himself melt into the villain's arms. "I can not believe you said that."

"I'm not wrong?"

"Maybe I should get a few scars on my face then if you think they're so attractive?" Bdubs joked. Doc narrowed his eyes with a baffled expression.

"Don't you dare-" He said as he went to cup Bdubs face in his hand. Bdubs leaned forward willingly for another kiss. Bdubs couldn't believe how he had managed to end up in this situation. If he had learned a year ago he would be happily sitting in the arms of his arch-enemy, he would have exploded in rage. Being with Doc just felt so natural, like they hadn't even fought in the first place.

"We should get moving again-" Doc said as he started to attempt to stand. He reached a hand down to Bdubs to assist him in standing up. Bdubs took it gratefully and rose to his feet. His chest tightened painfully as he tried to take a deep breath. "You ok?"

"Ya, not like Canem broke my legs or anything," Bdubs remarked sarcastically. Doc smiled at his humor and carefully swung an arm under Bdubs armpit in an attempt to help him stand upright. The two started making their way across the vast rooftops and buildings, Bdubs struggling a bit, but with Doc helping him along, they both managed to get back to Doc's ruined building. Bdubs smiled as Doc's adorable setup was still there. The majority of the candle's flames had been snuffed out after being left to burn, the blanket all wrinkled from their dash to get downstairs after Canems explosion. He would have loved to have just sat right back down with Doc right there for the rest of time, but first, he wanted to make sure Doc was well. Bdubs managed to get down to the apartment door by himself, ignoring the small jabs of pain in an attempt to show he was ok. Bdubs realized, now walking into the room, this was his first time to get a good look at the place. Truthfully he didn't know how to feel about it. Most of the walls looked scorched and burned all across the bottom. The room showed some evidence of trying to be fixed up but looked like it had been given up on. There was a single couch that looked like it had been dragged up from the streets with such a strange-looking makeshift kitchen and a very weirdly placed couch.

"You live here?" Bdubs asked, hearing the cyborg's shoes hit the ground behind him.

"Yes, yes I do," Doc said. Bdubs turned to look at him with one eyebrow raised. "I had an apartment here with Canem before he...you know, and there was a fire on one of the lower floors. This space up here was one of the only floors not badly affected by it." Bdubs nodded slowly at the man's explanation. Without saying a word, Bdubs walked over to the sink and grabbed the small towel that sat next to it. He turned on the water, the faucet taking a few seconds to actually turn on.

"What are you doing?" Doc asked, Bdubs could hear the taller man sit down on the couch from behind him. After running the towel under the lukewarm water, Bdubs spun around on his heel to walk towards the sitting villain

"You made sure I was ok, now it's your turn."

"I told you I was fine-" Doc protested, scooching away from the short hero.

"Your face says otherwise!" Bdubs argued, reaching over to smack the wet towel onto Doc's cheek. The cyborg stared at Bdubs for a moment before snatching the towel away from him and quickly scrubbing the right side of his face. Bdubs snickered a bit when Doc pulled the towel back, his face looking a bit cleaner but now very wet.

"Did it help?" Doc asked, then got a satisfied nod from Bdubs. Bdubs gently took the towel from his hands, moving to reach up and wipe off a small bit of smudge from below the cyborg's lips. Bdubs felt his face heat up as he locked eyes with Doc. The hero gripped the towel tightly in his hands and swiftly stood up with a bright red face. His stitches stretched and hurt as he did, making him grab his stomach with his free hand. 'You've been fine the entire time, and NOW you decide to blush like an idiot?!' Bdubs thought to himself as he slammed the towel into the empty sink. 'The high adrenaline rush from the fight and my nervousness at Keralis house must be wearing off.' Bdubs concluded as picked up the towel again to wring it out a bit more, still ignoring the painful sting from under his shirt. 'And it's been a few hours since I've refueled or eaten anything. No, food later.'

"D-Did you get any cuts?" Bdubs asked, trying to maintain his confident stature.

"A few but nothing to worry about," Doc assured as he stood up from his spot causing the couch to creak loudly.

"Are you sure-" Bdubs stuttered, failing his attempt of confidence. His chest tightened painfully as he breathed in. He felt two hands wrap around him, pulling him closer for a second but letting go slightly to not touch his wound.

"I'm sure," Doc assured, resting his chin on Bdubs head. Bdubs smiled a bit, and for a moment let himself lean into the man's touch. Despite his delight, Bdubs felt his face go red once more.

"Ah! no?!" Bdubs said aloud, reaching up to pat his face in anger. Doc tilted his head in confusion. The cyborg let go of the hero, moving to turn the shorter man towards him.

"What?" Doc asked. Bdubs squeezed his eyes shut in annoyance.

"Nothing! Uh- I- I'm just thinking aloud." Bdubs said, trying very hard to stop his face from looking like a bright red tomato. Bdubs' eyes moved downwards to stare at Doc's chest. He honestly was surprised seeing the shirtless man didn't make him blush as much as his face did. Probably because he didn't think he had ever seen the man wear a shirt. The metal plating on part of it looked fine but there was a very big noticeable bruise on his side. Without thinking, Bdubs reached over and poked it.

"Hey?!" Doc said, his face contorting as he stepped back from him. "What was that for?" Bdubs said nothing as he stepped forward to poke him again. 'I knew it

"You are hurt!" Bdubs said, reaching forward more as the cyborg continued to backway.

"Ya but that doesn't mean you poke it?!" Doc said, batting the hero's hand away like a cat. Bdubs smiled mischievously as he continued to try and touch the wound. Doc danced around his hands, Bdubs could see a small grin grow on his face as the shenanigans ensued. "Bdubs!"

"Admit you're hurt!" Bdubs demanded, laughing as he followed after the cyborg. The man spun around to grab onto Bdubs wrists with a soft touch.

"I don't have to because I am ok!" Doc stated, leaning forward to remain inches from Bdubs face. His smile and closeness made Bdubs hitch his breath, but he did not back down.

"You clearly aren't, so just admit it and I'll stop." Bdubs smiled, trying not to let his voice go high. Bdubs felt himself inhale quickly as Doc moved closer. It felt like he was about to kiss him but the cyborg leaned away.

"There's no way I'm going to win this huh," Doc asked, reaching up to run his metal fingers through his hair. Bdubs shook his head. "All right."

"Mhmm?" Bdubs taunted.

"I am slightly damaged on my left side, with minimal amounts of injury, it is nothing to overly think about or ponder," Doc said, a stupid smirk on his face.

"I'll take it." Bdubs shrugged. He leaned up into the tips of his shoes to plant a quick kiss on Doc's forehead, having to lean upwards a bit more than he liked. (haha. short.....he's actually taller than me so-). Right as his heel touched the ground, that feeling in his stomach came back. Bdubs bit the corner of his mouth out of anger, trying hard to get the feeling to go away. He was snapped out of his upset state as Doc let out a loud exhale.

"Right. Well, I'm going to try and fix my face, repair the damage so I can see properly again." He sighed.

"Mhm, that would be good," Bdubs said, really just trying to find filler words at this point so he didn't do something stupid. Doc smiled as he leaned down to repay the kiss on the forehead Bdubs gave him before resting a hand on Bdubs shoulder, Their faces dangerously close once more.

"You can make some coffee if you want." Doc offered. Bdubs gave him a small "ok" as the cyborg turned to go and sit at his cluttered desk. Bdubs eyes moved from the tall man to the awkwardly placed kitchen. Locking contact with the dented coffee maker, Bdubs crossed over to it and tried to get it to work. It made Bdubs mad that Doc could be so calm and confident. He didn't get it...but he also admired it. 'No way he's feeling this panicked too? Right?'

Doc felt like he was about to explode. Right as he was able to sit down at his desk, Doc's face went bright red. His hand came up to rub between his normal eye and nose. Despite his usual display of confidence, he couldn't help but feel like any second Bdubs was going to do something again to make his heart skip. And he did. Doc always noticed how red Bdubs face could get. Doc had noticed the hero's tendency of blushing as red as the color of his bandana, from embarrassment or even anger. But from a mixture of tiredness and weakness of his body, the cyborg found himself blushing. It took so much in him to strain his face from turning red. He didn't know why he did it. Something in him just didn't want to. 'I shouldn't be thinking like that.' Doc scolded himself. 'Hiding your emotions can't be the solution to something that isn't even a problem.' Doc groaned quietly as he sank his face into his hands. After a second he sat back up and dragged over a small mirror to rest in front of him. In the reflection, Doc stared back at himself. 'Man, that idiot really did bash up my face good.' He realized. The mechanisms deep in his eye were completely crushed by the impact of Canems fist. 'Strong bastard.' Doc rolled his normal eye in annoyance only thinking of how long it was gonna talk to fix it. From the reflection of the mirror, Doc could see Bdubs fumbling with the coffee maker. It made a smile go across his face as he tilted the mirror a bit to see the hero more. His metal hand reached over towards a pair of tweezers and got to work prying away the broken red glass and wires. 'Fixing this shouldn't be too hard.' He thought his sudden positive mindset caught him off guard. But his confusion was soon answered as his eyes floated back to look at Bdubs. 'Ah.'

10 minutes. Bdubs must have gotten the coffee machine to work because he had come over and set down a steaming cup next to Doc. Doc set the tweezers in his hands down and turned to give the hero a small kiss on the nose as a thank you before getting back to work. From the reflection of the mirror, Doc watched Bdubs walk away doing a small dance of joy. He had to stop himself from laughing because he didn't want him to stop.

20 minutes. Bdubs had come over and dropped a small bag of ice from the fridge's freezer onto Doc's lap, telling him to please put it on his bruise. Doc grumbled for a second but complied and put the cold bag on it. It stung, but he kept it there.

30 minutes. Doc had some old napkin blueprints he had made of his eye laid out in front of him. He looked back into the mirror to see that Bdubs seemed to have found some vines growing outside one of the windows. He had opened it and was sitting there while messing with some of the leaves, his now steamless cup of coffee sitting on the window ledge. Bdubs' hands were glowing a dim yellow as he swept up some energy from the vines.

50 minutes. Doc's robotic eye blinked as its sight returned. He looked back and forth in the mirror, watching as the small digital screen he had taken out of a small robotic dog toy tracked the movement of his real one.(Hey, whatever works I guess) Because the cover wasn't on it yet, the piece looked weird as it moved around, slowly switching from looking like an exclamation mark and a question mark. He would have to fix that. The concept of making it look like he had two pupils was good but was growing hard to accomplish.

1 hour. It wasn't hard for Doc to figure out how to get the eye to work. He clicked the glass covering shut with a smile. There weren't many changes. He had torn off the creepy metal teeth and closed it up. He guessed it was an attempt to not look so menacing. He, of course, fixed the eye and added the moving pupil and a small clock he had taken out of a small digital watch he had "found". The ice bag had completely melted into a bag of water and he just put it on the floor, telling himself to deal with it later. He spun around from his chair, partly expecting Bdubs to be standing somewhere behind him. There was no one. He raised an eyebrow in confusion as he looked around.

"Bdubs?" He asked. No response. "Bdubs?" Doc then noticed the door slightly creaked open. He felt his heartbeat quicken as he ran forward. The door swung open and he looked around for a second before his eyes locked onto the ladder that ascended to the roof. Doc grasped onto it and hoisted himself up. "Bdu-" Doc blinked as he saw Bdubs. He had his back to him, leaning back on his hands. He was sitting on the blanket, the newly re-lit candles brightened the dark roof around them. Doc felt a smile creep onto his face as he stepped onto the roof and walked over. Bdubs must have heard the sound of his footsteps as he craned his head up towards Doc as he walked up.

"Oh hey," Bdubs said with a soft smile. Doc smiled back and sat down on the blanket next to him. "I got bored so decided to come up here."

"Didn't it hurt climbing up here?" Doc asked, looking over at where he knew the man's wound was.

"Ya but not a lot," Bdubs admitted, looking at Doc with a playful grin. 'He got me there,' Doc laughed to himself.

"So, how do you like it?" Doc asked, smiling proudly as he gestured to his fancy repairs.

"The eye?"

"Yes the eye!"

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding," Bdubs giggled. "It looks cool."

"That's it?" Doc asked.

"Oh I'm sorry, it's such a great marvel that I get to be graced by your mechanical genius," Bdubs said, doing a fancy wave with his hand. Doc laughed at the hero's nonsense, which made Bdubs begin to laugh as well. The two soon sat happily in silence, Doc reaching over to pull Bdubs closer to him. Soon, Bdubs spoke.

"At Keralis's Apartment..when you said we were dating." He said. Doc moved to rest his chin on Bdubs head. "Were you serious?"

"I was. At least I would like it to be" Doc said. Bdubs leaned away a bit to be able to look at the cyborg.

"But we never even finished the date."

"True," Doc said.

"Do you want...to be boyfriends?" Bdubs asked, his voice sounding more confident than shy. Doc smiled at the man's boldness.

"How could I ever say no." Doc accepted, moving to pull Bdubs' chin up into a kiss. He truly didn't know how long the kiss lasted. But when the two broke away Doc wasn't even sure if he was breathing.

"I now announce this date is over," Doc said through breaths, resting his forehead against Bdubs.

"I think this is the most successful first date I've ever had!" Bdubs said as soon as his breath returned. Doc chuckled.

"Me too."
