Part 14

>:D Enjoy <3

"Damn It Grian!" Bdubs shouted. The man stood shocked as his once dry clothes were now covered in water, he looked up above the door in anger as the big blender cup dangled there on a piece of string. The gremlin himself began giggling loudly as he fell back onto the counter he was perched on. That pesky man had put a bucket of water above the door to the backroom, and Bdubs had walked right into his trap.

"I can not- believe- that actually worked!" Grian tried to talk between laughs but found himself falling over once more in a burst of giggles. Bdubs sighed as he grumbled to himself loudly out of anger. 'I guess this is what I get for being absent from work.' he thought as Keralis came up behind him with a towel, a giddy smile on his face. Bdubs accepted the towel and quickly tried to wipe off his face before lunging at Grian with it.

"Don't laugh!" Bdubs yelled, making Grian laugh in alarm and jump up from his spot. Keralis started to laugh as well when Grian ran over to hide behind him.

"Calm down you too! Come on Bubbles there's another pair of clothes in here somewhere that you can use," Keralis smiled. Bdubs smiled back as Grian walked out from behind Keralis.

"You have to admit that was kind of funny," He said. Bdubs laughed for a moment, his face then switching to a frown.

"For you maybe." He mumbled.

"Go on out Brain, shu shu!" Keralis said, starting to shove Grian out towards the cafe. Grian laughed as he pushed open the doors.

"Fine Fine!" He smiled as he stepped through and out back into the cafe. Bdubs sighed as he walked over to his assigned small locker in the corner of the room and pulled out an old t-shirt. It had a smiling explosion on it but his apron would cover it so who cares. Keralis stood smiling as Bdubs started taking off his wet shirt. The hero turned to look at Keralis with an awkward smile.

"You don't have to watch you know?" Bdubs said. Keralis laughed as he hopped up onto one of the counters in the room.

"Sorry sorry- So tell me what happened!" He said. Bdubs snapped his gaze over to Keralis.

"Huh?"

"Well, you skipped work so I assumed that you had something hero-related to do!" Keralis smiled. Bdubs stopped for a moment before discarding his damp shirt in the locker and pulling the explosion t-shirt over his head.

"Ya I guess you could call it hero business?" Bdubs started but paused. 'Does kissing your enemy count as Hero business?' After Bdubs had woken up, Doc and him just kind of ended up staying at Bdubs place all day. They spent a lot of it just talking really. Truly his mind was still trying to comprehend everything. Doc left that afternoon so as Bdubs went to sleep he couldn't think about anything but the charming villain.

"Did you have to save someone? Sneak into villainous territory!" Keralis asked, his imagination fueling his questions. Bdubs laughed to himself.

"You could call it stepping over some lines of 'Villainous Territory," Bdubs admitted, brushing off his shirt with one hand and reaching for his apron.

"It wasn't that exciting Keralis," Bdubs said, getting a pout face from Keralis.

"Hey, anything can be exciting if you make it," Keralis responded, jumping off the counter and walking over to him. "Besides, I want to know if you are ok after literally fighting villains." Bdubs smiled.

"Thanks Keralis."

"Of course Sweetface! Now, let's actually go do our job." Keralis said. Bdubs grinned, then ran ahead of the man.

"Or we could go and save starving and thirsty people, rescuing them from the clutches of.....food death!" Bdubs said with a smile. Keralis laughed.

"Let's do that!"

Bdubs smiled as he lifted a cup in the air, then quickly turned to read the name written in black sharpie on the side of the cup.

"Latte for Marra?" He said, watching as a brown-haired girl came up to the counter. She smiled at him, moving the single strand of white hair she had out of her face as she took the cup.

"Thanks!" She smiled, then headed back to sit with the blond girl she was with before. Not many people were in the cafe now, really with only three occupied tables. Keralis had left earlier because Xisuma had called him about something, so it was just Bdubs and Grian left to manage everything. Bdubs sighed as he stepped back to stand with Grian.

"They need to hire more people here," Grian complained. "We have been working for hours and hours. I need a break!"

"There is barely anyone here! Besides, we barely see the manager anyway so how will new people get hired?" Bdubs said. He then realized that none of them really ever saw their manager? Wonder what was up with that.

"Hey, have you ever wondered if maybe the manager is like, just a bird?" Grian questioned. Bdubs turned to look at him with a shocked expression.

"A bird???"

"Ya like a duck! Or a pigeon!" Grian said enthusiastically. "I mean this place is called the 'Pesky Bird' So it wouldn't be far-fetched."

"You are literally proposing the idea that our manager is a bird G?!" Bdubs said. Grian let out a laugh as he nodded.

"Come on! How cool would that be!"

"Whoever our manager is, I'm sure that they are crying right now." As the words left Bdubs mouth, the two stared at each other and burst out into laughter. "Ok we need to start closing soon so you stay out here until the rest of the people leave then start closing up out here, I'll empty the garbage," Bdubs said, getting a nod from Grian. The workers waited until the two girls and some other customers left and began their duties. Bdubs stepped out from behind the counter, slowly making his way around the small establishment and emptying the trash cans into one large bag. He carried them out back, allowing Grian to start picking up out front. With a full bag over his shoulder, Bdubs kicked open a door that led outside. He dropped the trash bag onto the ground as a small cold brush of wind passed by him. The hero leaned over to make sure the trash bag was completely shut then jumped in alarm.

"Wow, work seems like fun," Doc said. Bdubs turned around to see the villain standing calmly near him. Bdubs sighed, letting a small laugh escape him as stood up straight.

"Don't trash what I do, it's more than taking out garbage trust me." Bdubs smiled. "But why are you here?"

"Am I not allowed to stop by and see what life behind the counter is like?" Doc responded, a dorky smile on his face.

"Bullshit, you just wanted to see me."

"You put yourself too high of praise. LuxShield." The villain said, walking closer to close the gap between the two. Bdubs grinned as he reached up on his toes to quickly kiss him, Doc happily kissed back with a chuckle. Bdubs rested back down on his heels in joy until all of it washed away in an instant.

"Hey Hey No! What if someone comes back here?! They might think you are attacking me?! Or- Or-" Bdubs was stopped by Doc. The cyborg frowned for a moment but then shrugged.

"Then I'll just quickly dash away to make it look like they had stopped me just in time. Or I could always take you with me?"

"And make it look like a kidnapping? No way." Bdubs protested. "Anyway my coworker and I were just closing up so, I'm all yours." He said, going to start untying his apron. Doc tilted his head to the side.

"What are you suggesting we do?" Doc asked. Bdubs froze for a moment before pulling the apron strap over his head.

"Well I-"

"The way you phrased that made it sound like a date?" The villain said. Bdubs face went red as he frantically waved his hands.

"No!? How did you get that from that?!"

"I didn't! Just messing with you, Calm down." Doc laughed. "And it sounded like a good idea."

"A date? How are we going to pull that off? We can't exactly go to the movies or anything." Bdubs sighed, looking at Doc's mechanical chest, arm, and face.

"Movies? Come on man, we can come up with something better than that?" Doc said, crossing his arms.

"Fine then, tell me when you come up with something," Bdubs said. Doc chuckled. His eyes then went down to see Bdubs shirt, the happy explosion staring back at him.

"New shirt?" Doc asked. Bdubs looked down at the logo with a shrug.

"Hey, that explosion is the happiest thing ever. Besides, I radiate a lot of joy." He winked, then turned to go back inside the cafe. As the door shut, Bdubs could hear Doc burst into laughter, causing a dorky smile to go on the hero's face. Bdubs set his apron on one of the counters, then peaked out into the main area to look for his coworker. The place was decently lit from the afternoon light streaming in from the window, with all of the tables stacked up onto the tables

"Hey G, I'm just going to head out!" Bdubs shouted, his voice echoing in the small establishment. Not getting a reply, Bdubs shrugged, figuring Grian had already left and headed back out to the back door. He pushed it open, happily smiling at Doc, who stood there waiting.

"So any ideas?" Bdubs asked, letting the door close behind him. Doc smirked, twisting to weave his metal arm under Bdubs arm.

"I may have thought of something." He said. Bdubs nodded, using his free hand to pull down his bandana over his eyes.

"Lead the way then!" Bdubs smiled.

Doc looked over at Bdubs as the two quickly scaled the side of the abandoned apartment building. After he had left Bdubs place, Doc felt like doing something more. So he ended up setting up a small little surprise. Doc couldn't help but feel a bit of pride as the two stepped foot onto the rooftop of Doc's building. It was an old blanket laid down with a few candles he had managed to find.

"Pfft- what the hell is this?" Bdubs laughed. Doc turned to look down at the giggling hero with a frown.

"What!?" Doc snapped. "What's wrong with it?"

"That's just the most cliche little setup ever!" Bdubs wheezed.

"Hey I-" Doc was about to snap back at the short man when he looked up at the villain with a dorky smile.

"I love it!" He smiled. And with that Doc was calm again. Man he loved that stupid smile. "Well, should we sit down?" Bdubs asked. Doc nodded, going to put his hand around Bdubs as they walked. The two sat down next to each other, Doc happily sitting criss-cross with his arms out behind him for support. Bdubs rocked back and forth for a moment as the two sat in satisfied silence.

"Hey you can take off your mask. No one can see us up here." Doc said. Bdubs turned to look at him with white eyes.

"Oh right?" He realized, sliding the mask off his face and then tying it back onto his head. In a blink, his eyes we're back to their soft creamy brown.

"You know, I think this is the first time I have ever done something like this." He said, turning to look at Doc. The villain let out a quick laugh.

"Really?"

"Ya? I mean sometimes Keralis would have some of us over to all watch a movie, insisting we all sat on the floor. Heck some of us even made little tents! But nothing like this." He smiled, turning to look back at the orange sky.

"I used to do stuff like this a lot," Doc said. "An old friend and I used to come up here and chill together, nothing romantic of course. Just talking for hours."

"Sounds like fun," Bdubs said. Doc nodded in agreement.

"So Keralis? That's your google-eyed friend?" Doc asked.

"Oh right, wow I'm surprised I didn't bring him up in our conversation yesterday. Ya, the one you tried to threaten me with?" Bdubs frowned. Doc laughed, kinda feeling guilty. "He's cool, we have been friends ever since High school. I mean it feels longer but he's just always been there for me." Bdubs explained, he seemed super happy. Doc reached out to touch Bdubs hand. The hero took it happily as he began talking more. Doc smiled as he held on tightly to Bdubs hand. He had been up here countless times, to think, or even to sleep, but it never was as nice as this. Doc looked at Bdubs out of the corner of his eye as the man continued to rant on and on. Doc froze for a moment in his thoughts, then...

"Hey Bdubs," Doc said. The hero turned to look at him again with a smile.

"Ya?" He responded, his brown eyes staring happily at the villain.

"I just wanted to say that...I lo-" Before Doc could finish, a large explosion echoed in the distance. Both jumped from their spots, turning to look at each other in confusion.

"What the hell was that!?" Bdubs yelled, frantically looking around. Doc sat silent as his mind tried to take in the situation.

"No no no.." Doc mumbled. The villain sat still as Bdubs put a hand on Doc's arm.

"What?" He asked. Doc stared down at Bdubs for a moment before running towards the side of the building. He heard a shout from Bdubs as he jumped down onto one of the outer stairwells.

"No no no no-" Doc slammed the door open to his base and ran inside, hearing Bdubs behind him. Doc slid to a halt as he grabbed the small radio on the table full of mechanical bits.

"Hey! What are you-" Bdubs was cut off by the radio cracking to live. The two listened intensely. "An explosion....Vault...Smoke..?" Bdubs repeated as the radio continued to buzz. "Wait but..." Doc's eyes widened as he turned to grab Bdubs by the arms.

"It's Canem...He's broken into the ConCorp Vault."
