Sum: it's 9:22 pm and it's almost the start of the new year, you have arrived at a diner as you didn't have any family or friends to spend the celebration with. A couple of gentlemen arrived and one of them takes a notice to you.

Contains: fluff, something for the start of 2025, romance, cheesy, might have mild curse words, in this version Frank Sinatra's character doesn't have a girlfriend like he does in the film lol.

You were new in town and a lot of your family members lived in the next town over, your friends all had dates elsewhere and instead of staying at home doing nothing you thought you'd like to try the diner that was near your place called Mindy's. You've heard around from some new neighbors of yours that they had the best cheesecake and strudel in town so you went to try it.

You arrived wearing a black and crimson red pin up dress with back heels and wearing a dark grey coat with a red scarf and your nude stockings on and a beanie over your hair as it was cold when you decided to leave the house and go to the diner to celebrate your last few minutes of the old year to start anew.

Once you had taken a seat the waiter came and you had ordered a cheesecake and a cup of peach tea. He leaves to grab your order and you sit there waiting and admiring the diner's atmosphere and interesting people that gathered around to also celebrate the new years until your food finally arrives.

Your tea comes first and the waiter tells you your cheesecake is coming right up in a bit, with a gentle smile he nods as you said thank you and he goes to the back again. You added a couple cubes of sugar into the tea and as you smelled the aroma of the tea you slowly take a sip. You smiled as you take the first sip of the peach tea and the taste was perfection. The taste and smell as well as the warm sensation in your mouth made you feel warm and fuzzy inside as you took your time enjoying the sounds of the diner as well as the company of your tea as it comforts you when you were feeling rather lonely tonight.

Suddenly a few men had came inside Mindy's diner as you did hear the bell ring a couple of times, you don't bother to look up as you continued enjoying the sounds of the room as you drink your tea.

You hear one more bell ring and you decided your curiosity was getting the best of you. You decided to take a glance and as you looked to your left you see the men who arrived before and the new one who came in just now. One was a rather short and big sort of a man, the other shorter and average looking but the one you saw to be the last to arrive..the first thing you noticed were his eyes.

You couldn't tell from where you were seated but they looked bright blue like the ocean waves. Each man was wearing their usual suits with their fedoras, but the man with the blue eyes you noticed he was wearing a grayish blue type of a suit. You felt your breath caught in your throat as he looked back at you making you look away and looking back at your cup of tea. Not realizing this man has already noticed you before you turned around.

"Hey Nathan what's the matter with you? Your eyes not able to find the menu or ah you looking at something else?" One of the men who is known as Benny Southstreet commented as Nathan Detroit had his eyes scanning over to you as you drink your tea waiting to try the cheesecake. The other man known as Nicely-Nicely looks in the direction that Nathan had been looking and he raised his eyebrow and smiled. While the other friend Benny makes a disgruntled kind of an annoyed face as he sees that gleam in Nathan's eye, one that a guy makes when he realizes he's lost his heart.

He only ever really has that look when he's found his favorite thing, like a young boy who's found the best thing in the world. Nathan's friends realized he might be falling the moment he saw the mystery woman across the diner.

"Why Nathan..." Nicely Nicely started to say. Smiling still as he sees that Nathan doesn't really order anything but he slowly walks to you, he stands by the table and you noticed at the corner of your eye a piece of a man's suit. You slowly glanced up and see the man who came in not long ago, your heart stops as you watched as he tilts up his hat and smiled.

"How do you do miss..I'm sorry to have bothered you but I seem to be having a problem this evening." He says, his voice smooth you thought.

"Oh? And what seems to be the problem sir?" You asked softly as you gently put down your cup and look at the man as he fixes his hat still smiling.

"Well you see I'm having some trouble remembering a name I once dreamed about. Do you think there's a way I could find out what it is?" He asks. You look at him a little confused and he chuckles softly.

"Sir I'm not quite sure how to help with that I'm sorry." You say sincerely.

"Well perhaps you may tell me your name, maybe if it is the name I've been dreaming about then I may have found the one." He says. You couldn't help but chuckle as your cheeks turn a bit of a shade of pink.

"Hehe does that work on a lot of women?" You asked smiling as you take a sip of your tea.

"I wouldn't know..I've only ever dreamed about one..if I may please know your name I think I can solve my mystery dream woman's secret. If it is not you who's haunted my dream I will leave you alone I promise on my crap game." He says smoothly. You chuckled softly.

"Mm not quite fair sir..you know my name and I don't know yours? Wouldn't be fair." You say back smiling. You could tell he tried to properly introduce so he can finally get the answer to your name when the waiter brings your cheesecake, you ask the man if he may bring a box to pack it as you had to leave to elsewhere. The waiter comes back rather quickly before Nathan can find out your name as his friends were talking to him about the next game.

Nathan looking for you as his friends kept talking he sees you grab your coat and scarf and hat and you looked back at him and left the door. He told the guys he had to go and he grabbed his coat and left the diner, there was a few people walking arm in arm with their loved ones as Nathan tried to find you. He sees your red scarf and matching hat as you were walking into what looked to be a dance hall building.

He walks in after you as the workers take his hat and coat and Nathan sees you standing there in your red and black dress alone. He fixes his tie and walks slowly behind you but not pressing against you as he clears his throat. You turned around seeing the mystery man from the diner and you smiled softly.

"Have you found out the answer to your dream? Or do you still need my help? It is almost midnight sir." You smiled, he couldn't speak right away as he ran to meet you here. Once he caught his breath he offered his hand to you.

"May I have this dance miss?" He asked. You chuckled and take his hand.

"You may.." The two of you started to slow dance. His eyes locked on yours and you found yourself feeling your heart race a little as you get a good look into his blue eyes.

"Miss..I know this seems weird but before the clock strikes 12..may I know your name?" He asked as you slow danced. You could hear people inside getting ready to say the countdown but you didn't care all you could think about was how this night turned out different than you had expected.

"It's (Y/n) (L/n)." You said softly. He smiled back happily.

"Nathan Detroit. Pleasure to know you." He said back.

Suddenly the people around you were counting down for real but you couldn't think straight.

"It's weird to ask since we just met but..can I kiss you? When the clock strikes 12?" He asks, you were surprised by the question but the thought didn't bother you too much. You looked at one another still swaying together as the music still played but the voices of the people around you chanting happily.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1...HAPPY NEW YEARS!"

The moment the clock struck 12 you two kissed and you felt electricity coursing through your skin as he held you. You laugh when you finally pulled away realizing some of the people saw you kissing and it made you blush as you'd never done that before.

Once the cheering died down for a bit, Nathan walked you back to your home. Offering you his coat as it was really cold coming back. You both talked and talked until you got to the door.

You fiddled with your keys for a moment as you both stood there smiling and chuckled.

"This is me.." You said softly. He nods and scratched the back of his neck smiling.

"I im glad you made it home..I just uh..if I can..can I call on you again miss? We may have just met before the new year but I sure would like to know you better." He asked. You smiled and nodded.

"I'd really like that Nathan. Happy new year.." You took the moment alone to lean in and kiss his cheek this time as this was now the start of something new for you..

"Happy new year indeed (Y/n)." He said softly as he tilts his hat and hands you your cheesecake and leaves. Waving you goodbye as you go inside feeling fluttery for what happened at the start of the new year.
