Chapter 9
It's been a couple weeks since mine and Janes first date. We've been on a couple more since then and our relationship was better then ever. Emma started to accept the whole thing and actually hung out with us a few times.
Jane officially started her job last week and judging by her first paycheck, she could move out in no time. Then, I could officially call her my girlfriend.
Jane pulled in front of Emma's house and I stepped out. "Text me later?" I asked.
She nodded and rolled her window down a little lower so I could give her a goodbye kiss.
I smiled as I leaned in and locked my lips with hers.
In the short amount of time we've known each other, we've kissed a lot and I mean a lot. But, I still haven't fully gotten used to the way it made me feel. It was almost like my whole body was going to explode, but I'd happily let it happen.
I pulled away, the smile on my face growing wider.
She returned it. "See you later."
I was still breathless from our kiss, so I just nodded and waved as she took off down the street.
'I love you.' I thought as her car turned the corner.
With a happy sigh, I walked up to Emma's door and knocked.
She opened it and let me in before leading me to the kitchen table.
"You guys are getting pretty ballsy." She said as she sat down.
I raised my eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"Kissing out in public, someone might see you."
I shook my head. "No one around here knows us, aside from you."
She put her hands up. "Hey, I'm just looking out for you."
I looked down. "I know, we'll be more careful. I promise."
She nodded. "That's all I ask."
I gave her a small smile.
"So, you wanna grab something to eat?" She asked.
I shrugged. "Sure."
She stood up. "Good, you're paying."
I laughed as I followed her out the door and to her car...
We grabbed a table at our favorite diner and soon enough, Lindsay walked up.
She wore a small smile. "Hey, Blair... Emma. What can I get you guys?"
'Why do you have to look at me like that?'
"Just some fries." Emma replied.
She smiled and nodded before turning and walking off, sneaking a quick glance at me before walking into the back.
I lowered my head.
"She still likes you." Emma said.
I sighed. "Don't remind me."
Honestly, Lindsay was great and under different circumstances, I would date her in a heartbeat. 'But, she's not Jane.'
Lindsay eventually returned with our order.
"Hey, some friends and I are going bowling tonight. You guys should totally come." She said.
Emma and I took a quick glance at each other.
"Uh... sure... that sounds fun." Emma replied.
I shot her a glare.
Lindsay smiled. "Great, meet us there at eight." She said before walking off.
Emma turned to me. "What?" She asked.
"Are you kidding me? What if she thinks I still like her or something. I don't wanna give her the wrong idea."
Emma shook her head. "Oh, c'mon. It's just bowling with some friends."
I sighed and looked down at the fries.
'Just bowling with friends, nothing to worry about... then, why are you still worried?'
—————
A few hours later, we pulled into the parking lot of the bowling alley.
Emma shut the car off before facing me. "Just relax and try to have fun, ok?"
I sighed. "Fine, I'll try. But, no guarantees."
She just laughed a little and shook her head before getting out of the car, me following close behind.
I knew I was here with Emma and Lindsay's friends to, but somehow I still felt guilty. Like I was cheating on Jane. 'God, you sound ridiculous. You're not even dating her.'
'But, you want to and she knows about Lindsay. That you kissed her... oh give it a rest.'
I rolled my eyes as Emma held the door open for me. "You ok?" She asked.
I just nodded and walked in, immediately spotting Lindsay. She smiled at me before jogging up, a couple other girls following close behind.
"Hi." She greeted.
"Hey." Emma replied, while I just nodded.
"These are my friends, Jody and Carmen." Lindsay said, gesturing to the two girls next to her.
Emma smiled and shook their hands, striking up a conversation with them. They walked off to get their shoes, leaving Lindsay and I alone.
We stood in awkward silence, avoiding eye contact.
"Thanks for coming." She said, breaking the silence.
I nodded. "No problem, I haven't been bowling in forever."
She laughed a little. "Well, I hope you're ready to lose."
I smiled. "We'll see about that."
She smiled back before turning and following the other girls.
I let out a small sigh before following her.
After getting our shoes, we found our lane and Lindsay started putting the names into the machine.
I stood next to Emma, trying to find the perfect ball. She lifted one and almost dropped it.
I laughed as she put it back.
"Way to heavy." She said.
She grabbed the one next to it and smiled.
"Perfect." She said before joining the others.
I finally found one and joined the group.
"Who's first?" Jody asked.
"Emma." Lindsay replied.
Emma stood up with a cocky smile. "Watch and learn." She said before lining up and sending the ball down the lane.
We all laughed as it rolled into the gutter about halfway down the lane.
"Better luck next time." I said as she took the empty seat next to me.
We watched as Carmen and Jody bowled near strikes, both getting spares.
Then it was my turn.
I grabbed my ball and walked up, receiving a small smile from Lindsey on my way.
"Don't blow it." Emma said.
I took in a deep breath, lining myself up, then sent the ball down the lane. To my surprise, I got a strike.
I threw my arms up and cheered. When I turned around, the others were clapping.
Lindsay got up as I started heading back. "I guess I'll have some real competition."
I smiled before retaking my seat next to Emma.
Lindsay lined up and bowled a strike as well. She turned and winked at me before retaking her seat.
After some time, we only had one frame left. Lindsay and I were tied for the lead, then Carmen, Jody, and last but, not least, Emma. Who hasn't bowled a strike all night, spending most of her time in the gutter.
Speaking of which, we watched Emma's ball roll into the gutter once again.
She groaned. "Why did I even come?" She huffed as she plopped down next to me.
"We're supposed to be having fun, remember?" I asked.
"Easy for you to say, you're winning." She replied.
"She hasn't won yet." Lindsay added with a sly smirk.
"Well, she's up." Jody said.
I stood up and grabbed my ball, holding it up to my chin as I let out a deep breath. 'C'mon, you can do this. You can beat her.'
I sucked in a tight breath before swinging back and sending the ball flying down the lane. It knocked over eight pins, leaving me with the dreaded seven-ten split.
'Shit.'
"You're screwed now." Emma said from behind me with a laugh.
I waited for my ball to come back. 'Dammit, pull it together Blair. This is an easy shot, you're overthinki-'
"You should just pack up now." Emma called out.
'Don't let her distract you.'
I shot her a glare as I grabbed my ball and took my spot. I took in a few deep breathes before sending the ball back down the lane, adding a little spin to it in the process.
Everyone seemed to hold their breathes as we watched the ball. It hit the seven pin and sent it flying across the lane, knocking over the ten.
I jumped up. "Yes! Beat that."
Lindsay laughed. "You still have one more shot."
I grabbed my ball for my last shot, scoring a seven.
I sat back down and watched Lindsey grab her ball and take her spot.
We watched in anticipation as she swung back and sent the ball down the lane. It was just about to hit the pins when it rolled off into the gutter, ending her game.
She turned back. "I guess you won."
Everyone clapped a little bit before we packed up and dropped our shoes off, walking into the parking lot.
Lindsay and I trailed back. She might've told me I won and the points might've told me I won, but, somehow I didn't buy it.
"Did you let me win?" I asked.
She shook her head, but couldn't hide the smile. "Of course not."
I faked a gasp. "How could you?"
She laughed. "I guess I owe you a rematch now."
"You bet your ass you do." I replied.
We stopped at her car and she smiled at me. "It's a date then." She said before getting in and waving us off.
I just stood there. 'A date..?'
Why did that sound so appealing? I had a great night hanging out with Lindsay and actually found myself missing her company. But, Jane, we were so close to freedom, so close to being official. Plus I loved her... didn't I? Then, why couldn't I get Lindsay out of my head?
I let out a heavy sigh. 'Why does everything have to be so complicated..?'
