Chapter 1

My name is Blair Cohen and this is the story of how I fell in love with an older woman. It all started that faithful night at a bar...

Emma dragged me towards the front door of this bar she drove me to. She swore she knew the owner and that he'd let us drink even though we were under age. I had my doubts.

I planted my feet causing both of us to stop.

"What's the problem now?" Emma asked, slightly irritated.

I looked around nervously at the people entering and exiting the bar.

"Are you sure this guy doesn't care that we're not twenty-one?" I asked in a hushed tone.

She took a quick look around as well before pulling me away from the crowd, putting her hands on my shoulders and staring me in the eyes. "Look, don't worry, ok? He's an old friend of my dads and I've known him all my life."

   "So?"

"So, he won't mind if we celebrate our graduation with a couple beers." She said, plastering a huge grin on her face.

I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Fine, lead the way."

"That's the spirit!" She cheered before grabbing my arm and marching back towards the door.

As we pushed through the front doors, the smell of cigarette smoke and alcohol hit my nose hard. I covered it as Emma wandered off, in search of something or someone.

I stood still by the front doors, looking around, quickly realizing everyone was staring at me.

With a nervous wave, I took a seat at the bar and awaited Emma's return.

Then, a burly man walked up to me from behind the bar. "You old enough to be here?" He asked while drying a shot glass.

I looked around nervously. "I... uh-"

"Hey! Jimmy! I've been looking all over for you." Emma shouted from behind me, causing me to nearly jump out of my seat.

Jimmy pulled Emma into a tight hug. "Emmy! Long time no see." He said after they pulled apart.

"Way to long. This is Blair by the way, she's with me." Emma said, gesturing to me.

   I waved nervously.

He stretched his hand in my direction. "Nice to meet you."

   I shook it and nodded.

He looked between the two of us. "I take it you girls are here for a drink?"

"Yep, celebrating our graduation." Emma answered.

"Well, congrats. First rounds on me." He said as he pulled out two beers and handed them to us.

Emma took a big swig and smiled at me. I looked at my beer for a second before taking a tiny sip.

I almost spit it back up, but thought better of it and forced myself to swallow it.

I coughed as Emma patted me on the back. "You'll get used to it." She said.

   I just nodded.

"Well, have fun. I'm gonna go mingle." She said as she made eyes at a guy across the bar.

   "Isn't he a little old?" I asked.

"I might not be old enough to drink, but I'm old enough to do other things." She finished with a wink as she made her way towards him.

After she was out of sight, I pushed the beer aside and asked Jimmy for a water...

As the night rolled on, Emma joined the guy and his friends at their table, while I sat awkwardly at the bar.

I took a quick glance around, sipping my water.

Then, the doors slammed open, causing me to jump a little. I quickly looked over, my eyes widening.

There she was, the most beautiful woman I'd ever laid eyes on.

She scanned the room before making her way to the bar.

I quickly looked down at my cup as she took the seat a few spaces away from me.

"What'll it be, Jane?" Jimmy asked.

"Beer and a shot of whiskey." She replied as she put her head in her hands.

'Jane, what a pretty name for a pretty girl.' I thought.

I hesitantly looked over in her direction, but she was already looking at me. I quickly looked back at my cup.

After about an hour, Emma and her new friends walked over to me.

"Hey, I'm going home with Ron here-"

   "Don." He corrected.

She looked at him and waved him off. "Right, anyway, I'm going home with Don and I'm leaving you with my keys, can you drive yourself home?"

I nodded and she set her keys in front of me. "I love you, be safe." She said as her and Don made their way out of the bar.

I let out a long sigh as I grabbed the keys and stuffed them in my pocket.

"Rough day?" I heard her voice next to me.

I looked over and nodded nervously.

"Sorry to eavesdrop." She said with an embarrassed smile.

   "It's fine." I replied.

She reached her arm over to me. "Jane."

   "Blair." I replied, shaking it.

"Mind if I join you?" She asked with a smile.

"Uh... sure... no problem." I said nervously, moving my coat off of the seat next to me.

She stood up, moving to the now empty seat. "So, what brings you here? You look a little to young to be drinking."

"My friend, who just bailed on me. We were supposed to be celebrating our graduation but, she left me alone all night to hang out with that guy." I replied.

She nodded as she took a sip of her beer. "Why aren't you with her, partying with those guys?"

I knew why I wasn't hanging out with her and those guys. I wasn't into guys. But, should I tell her that? I decided it didn't matter.

"Well, those guys weren't really my type... guys in general..." I finished, looking into my cup the whole time.

She was silent for a second. "So... you like girls then?"

I nodded, tapping my empty glass nervously.

She was quiet again, this time for a couple minutes before asking, "Can I buy you another drink?"

I looked over and smiled. "It's just water."

She smiled back and got Jimmy's attention. "Another beer for me and one water for the beautiful young lady."

   "Right away." He replied.

I could feel my cheeks flush as I looked away.

Jimmy returned with Janes beer and my water. I thanked them as I took a sip.

"So... you said you're celebrating your graduation?" She asked.

   I nodded.

   "What'd you graduate from?"

   "High school." I answered nervously.

She raised and eyebrow. "How old are you?"

"Nineteen, I started late." I replied.

She nodded, then she was quiet again.

I looked over in her direction and noticed she was staring into her beer.

"W-what... uh... brings you here?" I asked.

She looked over at me, letting out a sigh. "I got in an argument with my husband."

   'She's married!'

Just then did I notice the wedding ring on her finger. I slightly shook my head.

   "What's wrong?" She asked.

"Oh, uh, n-nothing... just um..." I sighed. "I don't know..." I finished, looking back at my cup.

She seemed to understand why I was upset. "You didn't expect me to be married, huh?"

I could feel my cheeks heat up again. "I... uh... well..."

   She chuckled lightly. "It's ok."

I smiled and nodded, completely embarrassed.

She let out a bitter laugh. "Yep, been married to him for two years. We don't get along that well anymore and his daughter hates me. Lucky me."

   "His daughter?" I asked.

"Yeah, he had her with someone else way before I ever met him. I guess she hates me because she thinks I'm trying to replace her mother."

   "What happened to her mom?"

"Died in a car accident a few years ago."

   I looked down. "Oh, sorry."

"It's ok. You're not offending me. I just wish I could get out of there." She said honestly.

I looked over at her speechlessly.

She must've sensed what I was thinking because she gave a small smile.

"I know it's a little rough to say that, but they treat me like shit... I've just had enough." She replied.

"Why don't you just leave then?" I asked.

"Trust me, I would if I could. But, I got laid off a couple months ago and I don't have the money to move out on my own yet."

I nodded, taking a sip from my water.

After a couple more hours of brief conversation, she got up to leave, but stumbled over her feet and started to fall.

I jumped up and caught her before she crashed to the ground.

"Thanks... I guess I'm a little to drunk to do anything." She finished with a small laugh.

I got her to her feet. "Well, I, uh... I could drive you home."

   "Really?" She asked.

"Yeah, sure. I've been drinking water all night." I replied with a chuckle.

"Alright, lead the way." She said with a smile.

I helped her out to Emma's car and got her in the passenger seat before getting into the drivers seat and starting the car.

   "Where to?" I asked.

She pulled out her phone and typed the directions into the GPS.

"Here." She said, handing me her phone.

After a short drive, we pulled up in front of her house, well her husbands house.

She shook her head and let out a low sigh.

   "What's wrong?" I asked.

"They're not home. I guess after the little argument they went to his moms house." She replied with a scoff and a roll of her eyes.

She went to step out of the car, but began to stumble again.

"Hold on." I said as I hopped out and walked over to help her.

"Thanks." She said with a smile as I led her to her door.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye." I said, a little sad that the night with Jane was coming to an end.

She nodded as I turned to leave.

Just as I was about to open the car door, she shouted out.

"Hey! Do you wanna come in?" She asked.

   I looked at her curiously.

"I have some gas money, you know, for the ride. My way of saying thanks." She replied with a smile.

I nodded and made my way back to her.

She led me into the house and I looked around as she pulled a twenty from her wallet.

I reached for the money, my hand lightly brushing hers. I could feel goosebumps rise on my skin as I looked up into her eyes, my hand lingering on hers.

"Sorry... I, uh-" Before I could finish, she pressed her lips to mine.

My heart exploded with emotions as her kiss deepened.

I slowly wrapped my arms around her waist as she cupped my cheeks in her hands.

I pulled her closer, deepening the kiss even more. Our bodies rubbed together and I felt my knees starting to get weak.

She reluctantly pulled away, staring into my eyes.

   "Wow, that wa-" She started.

"I'm sorry... I, um-" She grabbed my hand, cutting me off as I started backing away.

A mischievous smile tugged at her lips. "Can I show you the bedroom?"
