Five Years Later...

Today was a special day, because today was our five year anniversary. Blair didn't know about it, but I had a little surprise party planned for later...

My eyes fluttered open, the morning sun shining through the window lit up our bedroom.

I looked over, seeing Blair still sleeping peacefully next to me.

I smiled lightly to myself before leaning over to whisper in her ear. "Blair, its time to wake up."

She started to stir before turning to face me, a smile lighting up her face. "Good morning."

I planted a soft kiss on her lips. "Guess what today is?"

She tapped her chin. "Hmm... I don't know, what's today?"

I hit her with my pillow, faking a shocked look. "I can't believe you forgot!"

She laughed, pulling me down for another kiss. "I'm only kidding, of course I know what today is. It's the five year anniversary of when I fell in love with the most beautiful woman on the planet."

I smiled before planting a few more soft kisses on her lips. "And? What else?"

She smiled back. "And, it's the three year anniversary of when I married that beautiful woman."

My smile grew a little wider. "I love you."

"I love you to." She replied.

After getting ready for the day, I sat down at the kitchen table, Blair joining me soon after with a small, wrapped box in her hand.

She set it down in front of me before sitting across from me.

I picked up the box. "What's this?"

   "Open it."

I smiled down at the box as I pulled the bow and wrapping paper off. I lifted the lid on the box, revealing a beautiful gold necklace, an intricate, heart-shaped pendant hanging from the chain. "For my true love" was etched onto the back of the pendant.

"I hope you like it." She said.

"It's beautiful." I replied, running my thumb over the pendant.

She stood up and walked behind me. "Here, let me help you put it on."

I handed her the necklace before lifting my hair while she wrapped the necklace around my neck and latched it.

"So? How does it look?" I asked.

"It looks a lot better on you then it did sitting in that box."

I smiled, standing up to kiss her. "Thank you for the beautiful gift, and don't worry, I have something special planned for you today."

She smiled. "I can't wait to see what it is."

"Well, first we have to make a few stops."

   "Alright, lead the way."

I grabbed my car keys and headed outside our house, Blair following close behind.

We got in my car and headed off to our first stop.

Blair smiled brightly as we came to a stop in front of a house, Emma stood from the porch.

Blair stepped out and pulled her into a tight hug. "It's been way to long."

Emma laughed. "Hey, that's not my fault. You could at least call, I am your best friend after all."

Blair chuckled. "Sorry about that, we've just been super busy getting settled into the new house."

Emma patted her shoulder. "No harm, no foul. It's great to see you."

   Blair nodded. "Agreed."

   I stepped out. "Hey Emma."

She smiled at me before running over and pulling me into a tight hug as well. "I've missed you to, thanks so much for setting this up today."

"Likewise and it was no problem." I replied.

After catching up for a few minutes, we got back in the car and headed to our next destination.

"You invited my parents to?" Blair asked as we pulled into their driveway.

"Of course, I know you've been busy, but I wanted you to be able to spend a whole day with all the important people in your life."

She smiled, planting a warm kiss on my lips.

"C'mon, lovebirds, we don't have all day." Emma said as she got out of the car.

We giggled as we broke apart and followed her out of the car and to the front door.

Blair knocked and after a minute, her parents smiling faces greeted us.

"Oh, it's so good to see you, sweetie." Marry said, pulling her into a hug.

"Took you long enough." Vanessa added.

We laughed as Marry nudged her.

"She's here now, that's all that matters." Marry said.

"Sorry, mom. I know I've been absent lately." Blair said, lowering her head slightly.

Vanessa rested her hand on Blair's shoulder. "Don't be, we're just happy to see you."

A fresh smile lit up Blair's face as she pulled Vanessa into a hug.

After a few more hugs, we headed inside for lunch, then got into separate cars to head to our last destination.

We pulled into the parking lot of a bar. I knew Blair wasn't much of a drinker, but it wouldn't be a proper celebration without a little alcohol.

We all got out of our cars and headed for the doors.

As I held the door for everyone, Blair leaned close to whisper in my ear.

"Trying to get me drunk, huh?"

I chuckled and gave her a small nudge. "C'mon, I'm not gonna hold this door forever."

She flashed me a humorous smile as she followed her parents inside.

We ordered our drinks before sliding into a booth in the back of the bar.

When they arrived, I raised mine. "Here's to five years with the woman I love."

"And here's to many more." Blair added.

"Cheers." We all said before downing our drinks.

After a few hours of drinking, we were all pretty wasted. Blair's parents sat at the bar, while Emma flirted with a table full of guys.

I stood next the the jukebox, tapping my foot to the song, when I noticed Blair stumbling towards me.

"Hey, beautiful, what're you doing over here?" She asked.

I smiled. "Just letting it all sink in."

She returned my smile as she leaned on the wall next to me. "Thanks by the way. Today's been great."

I wrapped my arm around her shoulders. "Anything for you."

She leaned in for a warm kiss before resting her forehead on mine. "I love you so much." She whispered.

"I love you to." I whispered back.

We stayed like that for a minute, quietly enjoying each other's company.

Then, she pulled away and looked me in the eyes, a new smile appearing on her face. "May I have this dance?" She asked, stretching her arm towards me.

I set my beer down and took her outstretched hand. "Of course, m'lady."

We giggled as we danced the night away...

I fell in love with Blair the moment I saw her and as the years went on, I found myself falling harder for her every single day. She was the girl of my dreams and nothing would ever change that...

Everyone stumbled out of the bar at a little past midnight.

"You guys good to drive?" I asked Blair's parents.

Marry nodded, holding Vanessa up right. "Yes, I switched to water a couple hours ago."

Vanessa giggled. "Lightweight."

We chuckled as Marry led her to their car and waved us off.

"Where's Emma?" Blair asked.

"Going home with Jake." She replied, walking up to us with an unfamiliar man in tow.

"Uh, it's Jack." The man said.

She patted his shoulder. "Yeah, whatever, it was great seeing you guys again. Have a good night."

We waved her off as she followed Jack to his car.

"I guess it's just us now." I said, turning back towards Blair.

But, she didn't reply, she just stood frozen, looking out over the parking lot.

I rested my hand on her shoulder. "Uh, you ok?"

"Blair..?"

I looked up, seeing a familiar woman standing a few feet in front of us.

"Jane..?" Blair replied.

I just stood there, speechless, not really sure what to say.

A small smile lit up Janes face. "Wow, it's been a long time."

Blair nodded slowly. "Tell me about it..."

They stared at each other for a minute before she turned her attention to me.

"Lindsay, it's good to see you." She said.

"You to..." I replied.

Then, silence fell over the group, none of us really sure where to start.

Jane decided to speak up first. "So... what's the occasion?"

"Anniversary party." Blair replied.

Jane nodded, looking down at the ring on Blair's finger. "Congratulations."

"Thanks." We replied in unison.

Then, we heard another voice. "There you are."

We turned as another woman walked up, snaking her arm around Janes waist.

"Who're your friends, babe?" The woman asked.

"Cynthia, I'd like you to meet Blair and Lindsay." Jane replied.

We shook Cynthia's hand. "It's nice to meet you." I said, Blair nodding her agreement.

"So, how do you guys know each other?" Cynthia asked.

Blair and I shared an uneasy look.

"Blair and I actually used to date." Jane replied.

"But, that was a long time ago, I'm happily married now." Blair replied quickly.

Cynthia giggled. "Same here."

Just then did I notice the ring on Janes finger.

Blair looked between the two of them. "Oh..."

Then, she smiled. "Congratulations. I'm really happy for you guys."

Jane nodded, another smile tugging at her lips. "Same to you."

Cynthia spoke up before more silence could fall over us. "Uh, you care to join us?"

"How about a rain check? My feet are killing me." Blair said.

Jane chuckled. "Of course. How about we try again in a couple weeks?"

Blair looked to me.

I nodded. "We'd love to."

Jane smiled. "Great, we'll see you guys later then."

After saying our goodbyes, we went our separate ways.

"I'm glad she found someone." Blair said as we got back into my car.

I faced her. "Me to."

She took my hand in hers. "Thanks again for today, I really needed this."

I smiled as I leaned in for a kiss. "Anytime."

Then, we were off, excited for what the future would have in store for us...

Love, it was a feeling like no other. Luckily for me, I found my love early on. I knew from the first time I laid eyes on Blair that she was the only girl for me, the only girl I'd ever want or need. She might've been blind to it at first, but in the end, love persevered. I believe love is the most powerful thing in the universe and it always seems to work out in the end.

You might have to go through a few heartbreaks to find that true love but, when you finally do, don't ever let it go...

The End
