The Upcoming Migration

Skandar slid off of Triton's back, landing on the soft dirt.

"You're here early." He remarked.

"Yep, he let me leave right after I gave him the dragon. And also, how come you're back so early? I thought that you were exploring the Crystal Caves with Triton."

"We were, but we had a run-in with a big Shatterbreath. I forgot that it was egg season for them." He explained, scratching his head.

"Aw, that's no good."

"But check it out, look at what I got in the caves!" He said, digging his hand into his pocket.

He pulled out a white, glittering disc, about the size of Nira's hand. She immediately recognized it as a Shatterbreath scale.

"This is from an adult male! How did you get it?!" Nira asked, eyes wide.

"How do you think? I nabbed it off of the dragon!"

Nira was too shocked to respond.

"Just kidding. I picked it up off of the ground before the mother chased us off." Skandar laughed.

"That makes a bit more sense!"

"You don't think that I can get a Shatterbreath scale right off of the dragon?"

"Heck, no!"

"Really? Oh well. Did you hear about the Daggerfang migration? It's coming right through the river in two days." Skandar asked.

"I completely forgot! I wonder if it's the same Alpha as last year." Nira remarked.

"I think that it is, there have been sightings of a large male with a scar over his eyes leading the group. That sounds like Gash to me!"

Gash was a large, dominant male. He, similar to all Daggerfangs resembled a large alligator, but with slightly longer legs. His ears were shorter than most of the others, but his horns were huge. Like a crown showing his leadership. He was massive, with amber scales, and, of course, a scar over his eyes. It almost highlighted his emerald eyes, which seethed with anger and aggression. He was terrifying, to say the least.
The herd usually moved through the river, without stopping, but occasionally would stop to rest in the empty fields that bordered the town. Although the breed was rather aggressive, Nira hoped that if they did stay, she could possibly befriend one of the more docile dragons. I'm gonna need a lot of fish. She thought to herself.

"Do you think that we can make friends with one of them? If they stay in the fields, of course. Wouldn't that be awesome?" Nira asked.

"You're crazy. Let's do it!"

That was one of the great things about Skandar. He was always ready to do crazy things.
Nira diverted her eyes to Eclipse, who was piling more fish near the bank of the water. She had been gliding over the water, grabbing as many of them in her talons as she could. Triton, however, had a more clever approach.
He was perched on a fallen tree, that had landed in the water. His claws dug into the bark, and his cobalt head hovered low over the water. He would wait for fish to gather in the water within his reach, before dipping the end of his tail in it. With a jolt of electricity signature to only Electronytes, he would kill the fish in a second.
Eclipse watched him silently, even attempting to put her own tail in the water to kill fish. It didn't work, but was hilarious to watch. Nira snorted when the large, silver dragon slipped and fell in the water in one of her imitation attempts. A graceful as she could be when she wanted to, when she wasn't paying attention, she was the clumsiest dragon that Nira had ever seen.
Eclipse grumbled, clambering out of the water. She shook herself off, water flying everywhere from her silver scales. Nira and Skandar couldn't help but laugh. She flicked her tail, wandering over to them, snorting a puff of smoke in their faces. Nira coughed, waving the smoke away with her hand.
Eclipse's forked tongue darted out of her mouth in annoyance. While the much larger dragon was occupied, Wisp was again attempting to steal fish. Again, it didn't work out very well. With a flick of her tail, Eclipse knocked him off of the pile.
The sunset was hinted on the horizon, the pale blue of the sky faintly fading into orange and gold.

"We should freeze these extra fish? For the Daggerfangs, I mean." Nira asked.

"Definitely." Skandar replied, starting to pile the fish into a saddlebag.

Once all of the fish had been packed up, Nira and Skandar headed into town to get the fish frozen. Now, in Calem, one would go about freezing things in a different way. They didn't have freezers. They didn't really need them.
Various breeds of ice dragons would be brought in from glacial regions, and kept for freezing items. One could pay a small fee to have different food items frozen for later use. There was one relatively close to Nira's home, and there they froze the fish.
After saying their goodbyes, Nira and Skandar headed their separate ways. Nira mounted Eclipse, taking off towards their small home. During the flight, she had time to reflect on her day. It was wild, to say the least.
