A Saddled Future
Eclipse veered around a scraggly tree at an amazingly fast speed. A new record. But there was always one thing that messed her up. There was one tight turn that always sent her and Nira crashing into the nearest tree.
Nira pressed herself against the saddle, ready to attempt to make the troublesome turn again. A sudden idea struck her mind suddenly, and she tapped Eclipse's silver wing and beckoned to the tree. The dragon immediately picked up the idea.
Instead of tightly folding both of her wings, she instead only folded one. The other she stretched out even more, hooking the curved claw on her wing around the thin trunk of the tree, using her momentum to spin her in the opposite direction.
It worked! Nira thought to herself, patting Eclipse's neck. The dragon roared in a response, spreading her wings momentarily to flap them.
Nira guided Eclipse to land in the open plains by the copse of scraggly trees. Wisp was fast asleep in a tall patch of grass, his white wings spread outwards and his belly pointing to the sky. He opened his eyes and blinked heavily when he heard Eclipse land, tail twitching.
Nira slid off of Eclipse's back, kneeling down to pet Wisp's soft fur. He cooed happily, stretching his wings. She lifted her hand and smiled.
"Ready to get to the shop? We'll be able to buy that saddle today!" She asked, grinning widely. She was so ready to start breaking in the new saddle.
Nira climbed back into the old saddle, Wisp situated behind her. Eclipse took off with a few wingbeats before settling into a soar.
They arrived quickly, Wisp leaping onto Nira's shoulder as she walked in, like a giant, albino parrot. She carried an unintentional grin on her face as she entered.
"Last day, I assume?" The old man started off immediately in his gravelly voice.
Nira was taken aback. She had really only taken the job to buy the saddle, but in all honesty, she liked working there. She hadn't ever been able to keep any kind of job beforehand, as Eclipse would always find a way to get to her, and conveniently mess everything up. But the shop was different. With her dragons allowed inside, Nira could work without having to worry about the trouble that Eclipse and Wisp were getting into.
"Er, actually, I was planning on continuing working here." Nira said quickly.
Albeit the fact that the old man was still hiding his face behind the cloak, she could tell his face was lightening by the sound in his voice.
"That's good. Well, you'd better get to work, and you'll have your saddle by the end of the day." He said almost dismissively.
I am so sorry for the short chapter, and also for not updating. Writers block reared its ugly head and blocked my way for a while, but I defeated it in an epic battle in which the only weapon I had was a slightly moldy onion. I wanted to update as soon as possible, so none of my readers thought I forgot about it!
