Story 9: New Faces

Exal sat upon the hard metal bench in the white room. He watched the black suited man pace on the other side of the table. The man seemed nervous, glancing at Exal, who was calmly waiting. Looking at him, Black suit said "Are you ready for the briefing?" Nodding, Exal adjusted his positioning. "Alex has been seen in a warehouse not too far from Detroit. He's armed and we are positive his mutations have increased since the last encounter. Don't be scared to retreat if you must. Your transportation is waiting for you A-Exal." Nodding again, Exal stood up and walked out of the room. As he left, Black Suit took a deep breath, trying to recover.

Leaning against a radio tower, the bald man finished pulling the glove over his hand. "AE, report in." The man places a finger on his ear piece as he takes out a pair of aviators, "AE, reporting five minutes from the target." The crackly voice seemed to sigh in relief "AE, Bio-Engineers are four hours thirty minutes from the area. They are doing a sweep, so you need to go quiet. No explosives, no unsilenced guns. Report back when it is done." The line went dead. A barely noticeable smile crossed AE's face as he slid the aviators on and picked up a snow camouflaged duffel bag. Slinging it over his shoulder, he brushed the snow specks off his best and had the long sleeves of his white collared shirt rolled up past his elbows. "Affirmative" was the softly spoken word of AE to the dead air as he began his walk.

Alex sat on his frozen bed, putting his newest weapon together. James and the team needed another shipment, to be mass produced. BEEP. Alex turned his head towards a modified phone and stared at the screen. BEEP. Picking it up slowly, he kept staring. BEEP. There was a target approaching at a steady pace. BEEP. Grabbing his gun and pocketing some other toys, Alex ran up the rafters to the embrace of darkness. BEEP. He could still hear it as he took out an odd looking cylinder. BEEP. Aiming his gun down a corridor, he waited. BEEP BEEP. Alex's eyes widened as a helicopter started to approach.

AE reached the building and pulled out his pistol, ready to walk in when he heard the helicopter. He looked at his phone. No new messages. Sighing, he slipped into the shadows, finger on the trigger. Peeking out, he saw the outline of a tall white creature. Quickly AE jumped out and fired three shots. The creature lurched and aimed an odd looking rifle one handed and a bright flash temporarily blinded him. As the blast launched him back, AE watched the front of his vest explode outwards. From his back, AE fired three more shots as the creature charged him.

Exal heard the explosive gunshot over the helicopter blades. "Do we have agents down there already?" "Negative Exal" replied the pilot, checking the radar "you are the only asset being sent in." Nodding, Exal cocked his SAW rifle as the helicopter hovered over the roof "Land on the helicopter on the hospital helipad. It will be empty for the next few hours. Cut the engine and wait on alert." Without waiting for a reply he threw off the helmet and grabbed his supplies. Quietly hitting the roof, Exal opened his weapons bag. Bearing his combat suit, he ran to the roof access. Another eruption was heard through the door. Kicking it down, he descended the stairs.

Alex threw the bald man against the concrete wall. The man landed funny with a crunch. Laughing, Alex fired another shot. To his credit, the bald man was quick, even with a broken something. The man fired several more rounds from his dinky pistol, all of which barely moved Alex. Laughing even more, he leaped at the man. As his fingers squeezed the man's neck, Alex watched in confusion as there was no reaction. The bald man just stared at him, blankly. "Odd, you are imperfect. Yet you have adapted to bring unstable. Taken it to your advantage." Suddenly the bald man jabbed at Alex's throat, causing him to release his hand. The bald man rolled back and pulled out the pistol. "However, you are still a newborn." Alex aimed his rifle at the man "What the hell are you saying? Who do you think you are?" Smiling, the bald man removed his silencer. "I am AE, and you aren't the first abomination I have slain." Suddenly, the room exploded in sound as a machine gun unleashed rounds.

Exal watched as the Abomination and a mystery man dodged out of the way. Continuing to fire upon them, Exal walked forward. BOOM. Even with the SAW groaning the Abomination's gun was heard. Impact hit his leg, armor struggling to endure. Turning, he shot more. Screaming, the Abomination fell back. Suddenly, Exal was kicked in the back and fell forward. Rolling to his feet, Exal threw the SAW down and pulled out his knife. The man flipped open a butterfly knife. Charging the man, Exal stabbed at the stranger.

AE took the blade to his shoulder. As this new one stabbed him, he heard the creature getting up. He was outmatched here. Quickly, AE slashed a cut above the new agents eyes. The man stumbled back, blood pouring over his vision. For now. Seeing a door off to the side, AE ran for it. The white creature suddenly replaced the view of the door. Rolling to the side, AE felt something rip at his back. Then he was upside down, an iron grip on his ankle. Then he started becoming acquainted with the ground. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

Exal tied a rag over the cut. Crunch. Flipping out a shotgun, he ran towards the source. The Abomination was wielding the bald man over his head, smashing him against the ground. Crunch. Boom. The Abomination screamed and launched the limp body. Rolling to his right, Exal fired again. Blinded by pain in rage, the albino bulldozed Exal to the ground. Right when Exal was expecting pain, the weight was gone. Stunned, he stood up and looked atound.

Alex limped through the woods, dragging the duffel bag on the ground. Whatever the hell was in those slugs hurt. A lot. Groaning, he quickly began to run deeper in the woods. There would be people at that scene soon, and he currently couldn't handle people. Reaching a radio tower, he sat to relax. Closing his eyes, he slowed his breathing. Crunch. Looking up, Alex saw AE standing in the distance, holding his own duffel bag. For several moments they stared, unsure of what to do. Finally, AE simply turned and walked away. Now the darkness consumed Alex.
