Nalaray are about the size of an orca and have a slick, smooth, waterproof skin that is very durable. It comes in a variety of colors and patterns. They have several fins on their arms, back, and tail. They have sharp claws and teeth. Gills are located on the side of their neck. Lungs are found in mainly the freshwater variants.
Other characteristics of a Nalaray vary with the area. They develop to the needs of the Nalaray, but over several generations.

Very powerful swimmers. Skilled in navigation. Intelligent as a 15 year old human. They speak through echolocation and small chirps that carry through the water. Their sense of smell and sight varies with each Nalaray. Other Abilities also vary

The Nalaray's skin color, body shape, and behavior varies with the area they live in
Ex: A Nalaray that lives near a coral reef will have a colorful and bright pattern matching the coral
Ex: A Nalaray that lives near a small stream in a field will have green and brown patterns matching the earth and grass.
If two Nalaray with different coloring mate and have an egg, the hatchling will have a 50:50 chance of which color it will be. There is rarely a hybrid, and hybrids commonly have a defect of some sort.

Males are competitive about their territory. They fight over the amount and area. The winner gets his choice of what he wants.

Unlike most species, the Nalaray pick mates that are permanent. Most choose with love, not with the need for power or strength.
When a female is with egg, she lays it and guards it for 3 years. The , the hatchling is born into the water. It takes several years for the young one to mature and live on their own.
Nalaray are only able to have 1 egg in their lifetime. 2 is a rare occurrence. Twins are as well.
The egg itself has a rubbery, slippery covering and a white/grey color.
