The world was wide enough
[Male Company:]
One two three four
"Oh no. It's the duel!!" "If you don't shut up Jefferson I will kill you in the most painful way possible." (One of you people commented this on the last chapter...you know who u are.) hercules turned towards him and threatened.
[Full Company (except Hamilton and Burr):]
Five six seven eight nine
"Oh god."
[Burr:]
There are ten things you need to know
"What?"
[Company:]
Number one!
[Burr:]
We rowed across the Hudson at dawn
"Why did the duels always take place at dawn?" Burr asked himself.
My friend, William P. Van Ness
"Oh! I remember him!" Jefferson said excitedly.
signed on as my
[Burr and Company:]
Number two!
[Burr:]
Hamilton arrived with his crew:
Nathaniel Pendleton and a doctor that he knew
"I remember him as well!" "SHUT UP!" Next to them Chris chuckled at the childishness of Thomas Jefferson. He had of course been informed by Lin that he would sit next to the real life founding fathers. Y/N however, did not know that Chris was sitting in the audience. Everything was perfect for the surprise.
[Company:]
Number three!
[Burr:]
I watched Hamilton examine the terrain
I wish I could tell you what was happ'ning in his brain
"What were you thinking?" Hamilton shrugged in response.
This man has poisoned my political pursuits!
"I did not!"
"Yes, you did, Alex. Calm down." John tried.
[Company:]
Most disputes die and no one shoots!
"Yet, of all the three duels we now have seen, Simone always gets shot." "Jefferson!" "What?" "I will kill you...slowly." Hercules let out between gritted teeth.
Number four!
[Burr:]
Hamilton drew first position
Looking, to the world, like a man on a mission
"Ok..?"
This is a soldier with a marksman's ability
The doctor turned around so he could have deniability
"I've said if before, and I will say it again: that is very smart."
[Company:]
Five!
[Burr:]
Now I didn't know this at the time
But we were
[Burr and Philip (Hamilton):]
Near the same spot (Near the same spot)
Your son died, is that why (My son died, is that why)
"Oh my god!"
[Company:]
Six!
[Burr:]
He examined his gun with such rigor?
"Probably was." Hamilton said quietly.
I watched as he methodically fiddled with the trigger
"Make sure you don't shoot yourself before the duel even begins." Jefferson chucked and ducked under a punch from Hercules.
[Company:]
Seven!
[Burr:]
Confession time? Here's what I got:
My fellow soldiers'll tell you I'm a terrible shot
"And yet you hit me in the middle of my ribs!"
[Company:]
Number eight!
[Burr/Hamilton/Ensemble men:]
Your last chance to negotiate
Send in your seconds, see if they can set the record straight
"I'm guessing that didn't happen."
[Burr:]
They won't teach you this in your classes
But look it up, Hamilton was wearing his glasses
Why?
"Because I have terrible eyesight Aaron Burr, sir."
If not to take deadly aim?
It's him or me, the world will never be the same
I had only one thought before the slaughter:
"It was hardly a slaughter."
This man will not make an orphan of my daughter
"You mean your 19 or something year old daughter with a husband?"
[Company:]
Number nine!
[Burr:]
Look him in the eye, aim no higher
Summon all the courage you require
Then count:
"Oh no."
[Company:]
One two three four five six seven eight nine
Number ten paces! Fire!
"Wait what? Did they just freeze?" "Yeah, I think they need us to 'hear' what 'Hamilton' is thinking."
[Hamilton:]
I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory
"Very true."
Is this where it gets me, on my feet, sev'ral feet ahead of me?
"Yes" "actually I lived for one more day." "Yeah, I remember. You wouldn't shut up."
I see it coming, do I run or fire my gun or let it be?
"The last one."
There is no beat, no melody
Burr, my first friend, my enemy
"We have a complicated relationship."
Maybe the last face I ever see
If I throw away my shot, is this how you'll remember me?
"Nope, pretty sure the whole country remembers you as a man who wouldn't shut up!" You know who, (hi hi) said gleefully.
What if this bullet is my legacy?
Legacy. What is a legacy?
"You and your legacy." Washington muttered with his eyes glued to the scene in front of him.
It's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see
"Wow, that is...wow."
I wrote some notes at the beginning of a song someone will sing for me
"It's funny how right that is now."
America, you great unfinished symphony, you sent for me
You let me make a difference
"You made a lot of difference, son."
A place where even orphan immigrants
Can leave their fingerprints and rise up
"I love how they are using the parts of the other songs." John muttered with years in his eyes.
I'm running out of time. I'm running, and my time's up
Wise up. Eyes up
I catch a glimpse of the other side
Laurens and Washington let out an involuntary gasp.
Laurens leads a soldiers' chorus on the other side
"You saw me first?" "Of course I did, my love."
My son is on the other side
He's with my mother on the other side
"Mother!" Hamilton cried out.
Washington is watching from the other side
Washington smiled at the mentioning of him.
Teach me how to say goodbye
Rise up, rise up, rise up
Eliza
"Poor Betsy."
My love, take your time
I'll see you on the other side
Hamilton couldn't keep the tears from falling down his face anymore. He felt as if he had lost everyone. It helped that you where three with him and of course the rest of his friends, but he missed his mother, Phillip and Elizabeth.
Raise a glass to freedom...
[Burr and Company:]
He aims his pistol at the sky
"What?!"
[Burr:]
Wait!
"Did...did that j-just happen..?!"
I strike him right between his ribs
I walk towards him, but I am ushered away
"Of corse you are."
They row him back across the Hudson
I get a drink
"Understandable."
[Company:]
Aaaah
Aaaah
Aaaah
[Burr:]
I hear wailing in the streets
[Company:]
Aaaah
Aaaah
Aaaah
[Burr:]
Somebody tells me, "You'd better hide."
"From who?" "Angelica and Eliza. They where terrifying."
[Company:]
Aaaah
Aaaah
Aaaah
[Burr:]
They say
[Burr and Angelica:]
Angelica and Eliza
[Burr:]
Were both at his side when he died
"Yeah, a day later!!"
Death doesn't discriminate
Between the sinners and the saints
It takes and it takes and it takes
"Thai is just so sad." Lafayette sniffed.
History obliterates
In every picture it paints
It paints me and all my mistakes
"I'm so sorry Alexander." "Hey, it's ok Burr. I forgive you."
When Alexander aimed at the sky
He may have been the first one to die
But I'm the one who paid for it
I survived, but I paid for it
"I hated my life after that."
Now I'm the villain in your history
I was too young and blind to see...
"Burr, stop blaming yourself."
I should've known
I should've known the world was wide enough for both Hamilton and me
The world was wide enough for both Hamilton and me
They were all silently crying. The only word that could be heard was a small "wow."
