'Cause It's Been So Long Since I've Looked Like Myself
"Alright, first day of college today, smile!" John says and I pose goofily for him before rolling my eyes.
"You know, you don't have to take pictures of every little thing in our lives. You'll run out of storage space." I say as I grab my stuff.
He shrugs. "I want moments like these to last forever, and then I can show them to our kids someday." He says.
I raise an eyebrow. We hadn't talked about having kids together, so I wasn't sure what we were doing with that. I figured there was no rush, especially since we're just dating still. Although I knew he wanted kids, considering he was just a kid person.
"Our kids, huh?" I ask.
He blushes a bright pink color and sticks his phone in his back pocket. "Um... Well, you know, if we ever look into having some.. You know, far in the future."
I giggle and walk over to him, wrapping my arms around his neck. "I think.. I'm going to be late for class." I tell him. He chuckles and gently kisses me before pushing me in a teasing way.
"Alright, get out of here, you little lawyer." He winks.
I wave and walk out the door, walking to my school. It was about a ten minute walk, but it was nice outside so I didn't really mind. One day I'll learn to drive, but that day won't be any day soon. I like walking in the nice weather.
Once I arrive at the school, I take a deep breath before walking in. I smile brightly at my surroundings. Ivy covered walls, smokey French cafes, it was like a dream.
I head to my first class and sit down in the front row, a taller male sitting down next to me. "Front row, huh? You're pretty brave." He says.
I look over at him and see his piercing blue eyes, light brown hair, and squared jaw all staring at me. I smile and he flashes a toothy grin at me. If I wasn't taken, I'd say he was very much eye candy. However, I am in a happy, healthy relationship. So he is decent looking.
"I would assume that of you, as well, seeing as you sat next to me." I say, gesturing to his seat.
He nods. "Well, I have to make a good impression." He says.
I chuckle and nod. "Yeah, I guess that's why I'm sitting up here, too."
He smiles at me a little longer before the teacher walks in, dropping all her stuff on the desk. "Alright. Freshmen. You're back to the beginning, fresh out of high school." She starts before looking at some specific people. "Well, some of you, anyway."
I lean into every word she says. I know she was putting on an act so people didn't try and pull any nonsense, but that made me enjoy listening to her even more. I was in Princeton finally, doing what I've always wanted to do.
Class ends after a short two hours and I walk out, stopped by the man who sat next to me. "Wait, I haven't seen you around campus at all, are you staying in any of the dorms?" He asks as we stand outside the door of the class.
I smile and shake my head. "Oh, no, I'm living with my boyfriend in an apartment not far from here." I explain.
His smile fades slightly, but he still keeps part of it. "Oh, I see. That would explain why I haven't seen you, then." He chuckles gently.
I nod and then stick my free hand out, holding my books with my other. "I'm Alexander, by the way." I tell him.
He nods and grabs my hand, shaking it gently. "I'm Francis, it's good to meet you."
I smile at him and then look at my watch. "I'd better get to my next class, it's across campus." I say.
"Alright, see you around, Alexander."
I wave and walk away from him, heading to my next class and once again sitting in the front row. As I sit there, I think about the conversation Francis and I had. The way he was super friendly with me, the way his smile dimmed when I told him I was taken- Oh.
Oh now I feel bad. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad, considering we only just met today. It's not like I was leading him on or anything.
I sigh and shake my head, trying not to think about that situation as I look up at my teacher. He was staring at the class in silence, as if he was picking them out one by one in his head.
He nods after examining everyone. "Alright, I've already figured out who's passing and who's failing this class." He proclaims and I raise an eyebrow. "I really, really hope some of you prove me wrong."
He turns to his board and starts writing. "Though I highly doubt you will." He mumbles loud enough for the first few rows to hear.
I gulp. He was intense. It was law school, so I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but I guess it's definitely this. How could he possibly know who was going to pass and fail his class?
He continues teaching and then looks over at us, stopping when his eyes land on me. "You, what's your name?"
"Alexander Hamilton." I state, nodding at him respectfully at him.
He nods slowly. "You're one of the ones I think will fail. But I think you have the ambition to prove me wrong." He starts before putting a quote up on the board. "Do you know who said this?"
I read the quote in my head. One must accept the fall of the dice and settle one's affairs accordingly. I nod at him. "Socrates said that, Sir." I say, confident in my answer.
He raises an eyebrow. "Are you sure about that?" He asks.
I raise an eyebrow back at him, a slight smirk plastered of my face. "One must accept the fall of the dice and settle one's affairs accordingly - in whatever way argument declares would be best." I nod. "Yeah, I'm one hundred percent sure it's Socrates."
The teacher smirks in approval and nods at me. "Very good, Hamilton. Keep that energy up throughout all of life, and you are sure to succeed."
I smile and sit up straight, my pride growing a bit. This school is the perfect place for me.
