O. ━━ LOVE BLOODLINE.
CHAPTER O —— love bloodline!
Maude had figured out something was different about her when she was a little girl, and was able to sense when someone had an attraction to another person. For a long time she had assumed it was something everyone could sense but once she asked her mother if she could tell Maude if the boy she had a crush on was attracted to her ( because ironically the only attraction she couldn't sense was others' towards herself ) and her mother told her she didn't have magic powers to be able to do that.
When her mother found out that Maude did in fact have that power, her father and mother sat her down and had a long conversation about Maude's father's side of her family tree, and how long, long ago an Egyptian Goddess and a mortal from her family had a child together, which eventually meant that she inherited these powers. The women in his family were the only ones that inherited the powers but they had never been as strong as her's were already showing signs of being. Her recent ancestors were only ever able to sense if a relationship was close to ending, at the very most, so the amount of power she had at the age she was was interesting to them.
She was given the family books that had recently been dubbed as the 'GUIDE OF THE CUPIDS' which whilst Maude could appreciate the fact that the name made sense considering their love powers, Cupid was a Roman God whilst Hathor was an Egyptian. It was something so small to be annoyed over, and yet Maude was. She would later come to wonder if Hathor looking over her that day influenced her emotions.
The first time the Goddess ever spoke to Maude was when she lit a candle on the altar she had for Hathor in her room. Maude had realised she was there right away, the sheer presence of the Goddess in her mind had caused her to halt and burn her finger on the lighter in her hand.
There was a laugh: Am I that intimidating?
Maude thought back a yes, on accident, controlling your thoughts is much harder than one might think. Luckily for her, she wasn't blasted into pieces by the Goddess, instead she was rewarded with a laugh in her head.
Their familial relationship progressed from their, Maude got used to having Hathor in her head giving her, albeit sometimes useless, advice as she did things and having someone see every raw thought that flew into her mind, good or bad. Having the Goddess by her side also meant that she was even more aware of how much of a crush she had on her best friend than if she only had her power.
The only time Maude ever put her foot down with the Goddess was when she attempted to try and get Maude to ask out Jerome, which was something she was absolutely not ready for. Hathor proceeded to not speak to her for months straight ( which was also when everything with Sibuna was happening, which sucked a lot because having the help of an Egyptian Goddess would have made things a lot easier ) but Maude was stubborn and didn't reach out first.
Hathor came back into her life when the summer holidays began and was quite surprised to hear what her descendant had gotten up to in the time she was missing. Hathor grumbled about missing out and then proceeded to lightheartedly ( Maude hoped it was, she wasn't too sure ) taunt the 'Cupid' about her love life, as if she knew something Maude didn't.
Spoiler: Maude would have very much liked to know what Hathor was talking about, because maybe then she could have been prepared for the year ahead and the confusing feelings that came with it.
Oh my crush, things are about to get interesting!
