meaning of truth
GEORGINE simply couldn't understand what she was looking at, who she was looking at. Alice. How long had it been since they had last seen her? Too long, that's for sure. Where had she gone? Why hadn't she told anybody? What━━
She barely spared her family a glance, continuing to walking forwards, heading straight for where the Volturi stood, on the opposite side. Georgine couldn't help but immediately look towards her fiancée, wondering what was going through his head. He must've been happy that his sister was back, but at what cost? For a short while (albeit, too long), they had all been unknown as to what was happening with her and where she had suddenly run off to, and in those moments, they couldn't help but slightly believe that maybe she had just got up and left them. It was the furthest thing for someone like Alice to do, but there seemed to be no other explanation. That was the worst of it.
Immediately, guards of the Volturi stalked up to her approaching figure, seizing her violently before she could even manage to get any closer. Beside her, Jasper tensed once more, secretly wanting to run forth and protect his sister. They both knew they couldn't, however━━it would only make their situation ten times worse than it ever needed to be.
They had to believe in Alice, they had to believe in their beloved sister. She must have left for a reason; there must be something hidden amongst her sleeves. They had to trust she would help them as much as she could.
"My dear, dear Alice," Aro crooned with immediate excitement, "we're so glad to see you here, after all."
Their sister didn't care to hear of his attempts at sleazy, half-hearted compliments━━at once, she was already back to protecting her family. "I have evidence the child won't be a risk to our kind."
That seemed to still the air around everyone. So, that's what Alice had been doing. She was on their side, after all━━they shouldn't have ever doubted her, not even for one single moment. But, that didn't necessarily explain why she hadn't told them; it didn't explain why she had forced them to believe in anything different.
But, she continued to side with her beloved, found family as she held her hand out, gesturing for Aro to take it within his grasp and allow himself to see what she could.
"Brother?"
Aro had always loved the idea of Alice's ability━━being able to see the future was something rare, something special. For so long, the man had been desperate to have Alice within his grasp, on his side, within his reach to had her ability for his own personal gain. It was something selfish, but Georgine guessed she could see where he was coming from. If she was someone as evil and repressed as Aro, she'd probably want someone like Alice on her side, too.
Ignoring his brother's remarks and worries within his tone, Aro nodded to his guards, forcing them to release her from their holds. He continued to grin in pure excitement.
Within just a second, he grabbed her hand within his own, both pairs of eyes staring intently into the other, grasping at loose straws.
Everyone waited in silence, wondering what was to become of each of them in just a few moments.
Alice was the first to speak up, enshrouding the enveloping silence with the truth behind her words. "It doesn't matter what I show you. Even when you see," she sharply took possession of her hand, once more, and Aro couldn't help the shock that overlook his features, "you still won't change your decision." Then, turning around, a tense, worried expression filtered her face, looking directly at Bella. "Now."
No one else, other than Bella, seemed to understand the meaning behind that single, monosyllabic word. Had Bella known something, all along, that none of the others did? Was this that something Georgine had been thinking Bella was keeping from her?
With one last, longing look at her daughter, Bella directed her dreaded words to the wolf carrying Renesmee. "Take care of my daughter."
Take care of my daughter. What did that mean? It was as though they were preparing for a fight, now━━Bella and Edward would want Renesmee as far away from said fight as naturally possible, and it made sense that she'd put her complete trust within Jacob; someone she knew would rather die than let the child get into harm's way. The Volturi would instantly go after her, and that was something they all needed to try and prevent.
The next thing they knew, the pair were off.
The Volturi were already preparing. "Get them," Caius sneered at a few vampires behind him, commanding with his tone.
Before anyone else could move just a single inch, Alice turned back around, sending a swift kick to Aro, causing him to fly up into the air. Everyone gasped in shock, but the Cullen family were quick to regain their composure━━now, it was happening. Both sides glared at each of their enemies in distaste, standing their ground. Despite their boldness and eagerness, Georgine wrapped a secure arm around Jasper's one, a silent signal that this was it, they were ready, and whatever happens, happens.
Alice's kick had managed to force Aro back to the end of his clan, sneering as he stood back up in their direction. As he stalked back up to the front, several guards seized Alice, once more, holding her tightly within her grasp as she did everything in her power to struggle out. Nothing seemed to work.
The more Alice struggled, the more the Cullen coven became anxious. Georgine sneered, baring her teeth in anticipation as she watched her sister writhe about, wanting to do everything to protect her. Several of them took a step forward or two, hesitant to get involved and help her, but stopped as the Volturi coven did the same.
With growls of teeth, scrapes of paws and venom waiting to be spat at their enemies, the fight loomed closer than ever.
"Take her away."
At Aro's chilling command, the guards holding Alice moved her to the side, so now the two opposing covens were staring solely at one another. Adrenaline pumped through Georgine's dead veins, and she was about to run forwards, red eyes ablaze and forcing her way through to Alice, before her father-figure screamed out, "Let her go!"
It didn't matter if Carlisle had once been close to the Volturi coven━━they were threatening one of his daughter's, and that meant war.
Carlisle ran forwards, speeding as fast as he could to get to Alice before they could hurt her, before they could kill her. As he was running, several other of their vampiric enemies did the same, attempting to attack the man and stop him from reaching his destination. However, it seemed they weren't a good enough match. When it came to father's protecting their daughter's, it seemed no one could stop them.
He continued forwards, anger seething from him in great gusts, and from the corner of her eye, as she continued to keep an eye on Alice and her struggling figure, she noticed movement━━Aro. He was beginning to pursue her father, like a predator would go their prey. As Carlisle jumped up, in an attempt to rush forwards to Alice, so did Aro, meeting him halfway and colliding with his body, mid-air.
Georgine panicked; she wanted to help him━━he shouldn't have been going up against Aro all by himself, but it seemed no one else could move, either.
It was hard to distinguish what happened in the air; both bodies collided, and there was a moment where they growled and struggled against one another, but then Aro landed back on the ground, on both feet...
...Carlisle didn't.
His body slumped to the ground, and for a moment, Georgine didn't understand what had happened. Maybe he had just lost that small scrap within the air, and she was expecting him to instantly get up, run back towards Aro and scramble to the ground in a desperate attempt to save his daughter, once more. But, that didn't happen.
Instead, Aro slowly stood up right, with a teasing grin plastered over his features as he looked towards his enemies. They all tensed simultaneously, a mixture of eyes the colour of gold, brown and red fluttering in his sole direction, and what was in his hand.
Carlisle's head.
To the left of her, Georgine heard a pain-filled scream emit from her mother, and it caused her lifeless heart to shatter. Carlisle was dead. Before their very eyes, Aro had killed Carlisle.
And, he only continued to grin.
Gasps fell from every pair of lips all around them, taking in what had happened before their very eyes. Everyone there had some form of connection to Carlisle━━whether he was a friend, a neighbour, a distant relative... a brother, a father, a husband... he meant something to everyone.
And, everyone was pissed.
They set fire to Carlisle's still body, and Georgine felt the anger begin to overtake all her senses. Her eyes grew dark in emotion, sneering venomously in the direction of the Volturi. Going from tense, to despair, to full-on-rage, it was bound to have an affect on the weather; and, it did. In just one moment, the snow littered ground seemed to increase━━from above, flurries of snowflakes appeared; the beginnings of an oncoming and approaching storm.
Before, she was worried about the outcome. Now, she didn't care.
As a group, they ran, all seeing red.
At their increased, sudden movement, Aro, too, sent his army forwards, determined to win the fight. They were outnumbered a lot, of course, they were, but the Cullen coven had even more to fight for after the death of Carlisle.
This was for the torment of all covens, the protection of Renesmee, the death of Carlisle.
They had a lot more to fight for.
The wolves sped past them, just as fast as the vampires, and opened their jaws, snapping seethingly, before ferociously taking their enemies within their grasps, tearing them to shreds within an instant. Everyone was moving around, fighting one person or another, all fuelled by the need to win.
Ahead of her, Georgine came face to face with a member of their enemy coven━━they both noticed one another, neither of them stopping or even beginning to halter in their movements. Her head tilted down, resentment continuing to filter her features, and sped faster than she thought was possible. The vampire in front of her raised his fist, ready to collide it with her head, before Georgine made for the ground, sliding between his open legs and making it out the other side. She managed to grasp at one of his legs within his slight moment of hesitation and brought him down to the ground, his front beginning to bury beneath the snow. Without wasting a single second, she was back up, stood upon his back and used all of her night to rip his head from upon his shoulders.
Before, Georgine could've never imagined herself in a situation as horror-like as that one, but it seemed times had changed, and with it, so had she.
With no disregard, she tossed his head to the side like it was nothing.
At once, her mind formed the image of two people she knew she needed to look out for: Jasper, and Benjamin. Eyes moving rapidly, they landed on her fiancée's figure━━he was doing well, fighting by his brother's side. Jasper was good at this, he would hold himself well━━Georgine didn't need to worry as much as she was, then.
So, with a brief indication that Jasper was alright, she looked for the second person: Benjamin. Their coven had come up with the idea of using both their abilities to their advantage━━the Volturi didn't know of how powerful the two of them were alone, let alone together. The didn't know it was Georgine who brought the beginnings of a snow storm before, but they would soon.
From across the field, but not too far away, she spotted him fighting two members of the Volturi alongside Tia, his mate. It wasn't long before they came out of it unscathed, and Benjamin met the eyes of Georgine. He already knew what she was insinuating without so much as a nod of her head━━he turned back to Tia, whispered words of comfort and watched as she fled elsewhere, before looking back. When their eyes met, that meant it was time.
Georgine looked at her surroundings, noticing that no one was too close to her to interact and prevent what was about to happen. So, with a deep breath she no longer needed after having turned, she focused as hard as she could on her emotions, altering them to fit her dynamic, to fill her wants and desires.
Thanks to hours upon hours of training and practice, Georgine had practically mastered the art of her ability. That's why, the next thing she knew, that once small flurry of snowflakes began to almost meld together, creating one bigger picture. Into the ice kissed air came wintry-feathers of pure white, a great snowfall that soon gave-way to a blizzard, as if a sky-dam had burst. And, in a way, it did. Because, this was for Carlisle, the man who was like a father to her, filling the space her biological one hadn't wanted to fill, or at least, hadn't had the chance to. When Carlisle died, a bit of Georgine burst open, allowing every emotion to fall through.
Benjamin couldn't help the smirk adorning his lips, grinning in excitement once he spotted what Georgine had been able to create. He lifted his hands up into the air, and moved the blizzard to his own will, forcing it back and forth around the field. It wouldn't do much to kill anyone, but it managed to distract their enemy━━some were shocked by what they were witnessing before them, whilst others were caught up in the commotion, unable to see their rights from their lefts, and in that moment of struggle, they were soon taken out and put to rest.
Their plan had worked.
Georgine made sure to continue to focus a small part of her mind on keeping that blizzard alive, allowing Benjamin to do whatever he pleased. She turned her head, scanning the area. Her anger continued to take control over her senses, wanting everything to avenge those she had lost━━taking her anger from the loss of her mother out on them, too━━but, a small part of her began to feel excited, too. Maybe it was just the adrenaline, but the feeling of tearing her enemies apart after causing them so much pain and agony fuelled something within her she never expected to experience.
Yet, as soon as that excitement appeared, it had vanished.
There was Jasper, forcefully fighting his way against two guys, and winning, by the seams of it, before he began to writhe in pain. For a split second, Georgine could only stare, slightly shocked━━nothing had physically happened to him, so how was he suddenly in pain? Pain. That was it. Where was she?
Her piercing red irises scrambled across every figure that adorned that field, until they spotted her. There she stood, eyes unmoving, a smirk on her lips as she watched Georgine's fiancée's succumb to the pain, awaiting his death, a second time in his infinite life. That was when she noticed no one else seemed to spot what Jane was doing; everyone around her was too busy caught up in their own fights.
So, Georgine took it upon herself to deal with the bitch.
This was a different kind of anger that overcame Georgine. In front of her, was the woman threatening her fiancée's life, teetering him on the edge of death. Even if, before, she had accepted that the same may happen to her, she'd do everything she possibly could to prevent it from happening to the love of her life.
Without so much as a bat of the eyelid, or a twitch of a muscle, a singular lightning bolt came striking down from the heavens, splitting open the skies. Georgine didn't want it to land directly on her; all she wanted was to knock her on her ass enough for Jasper to regain his original stance, back to fighting for his life, once more. And, it worked.
As the bolt of bright blue landed just yards away from where Jane once stood, she was sent flying back, scraping seamlessly across the grounds, until she came to a stop. Her eyes were wide in disbelief, clearly not having expected such an attack as that one, and looked for her perpetrator.
Once her eyes landed on Georgine, a crash in thunder echoed around them.
The vampiric enemy was up within mere seconds, but didn't move an inch. Instead, Georgine watched as her eyes only stared deeply into her own. It was weird━━separate fights were happening all around the pair of them, and here they were: conflicting their own fight just by standing still. That was when Georgine understood how Jane was attempting to use her own ability in the girl, the former vampire prepared herself for the feeling of burning pain... but, nothing came.
Jane seemed just as shocked as Georgine was, too. She looked around, desperate to find who was stopping her, wanting to win so badly after having been pushed underfoot too many times now, for her liking, when she found Bella. Georgine smirked boldly━━her sister was pushing her forcefield around both her and Jasper, allowing them continue fighting without having to worry about abilities being used against them.
She'd never loved her sister more than then.
But, maybe Georgine Brodeur shouldn't have been so quick to be cocky.
A bold smirk of her own appeared on Jane's features, this time, and apprehension filtered through Georgine's veins, her own falling from her lips, trying to understand why the tables have turned━━Bella. Her sister was pushed to the ground by someone else, attacked as she fought her way through. That meant the forcefield was gone. That meant Jane's ability was back on the table.
In the next instant, Jane's head snapped towards Jasper, who had continued fighting against the same two others (and, still winning, by the way!). But, then he stopped again, falling to the ground, mouth agape and eyes open in shock. Panic ran through Georgine, and she began to run towards her, ready to tear her apart.
She didn't get very far, however, as Jane's eyes turned back to her own, penetrating within her soul. Georgine dropped to the ground. It was too much━━there was too much pain happening to her, then. She couldn't scream; she tried to, but she simply couldn't; no words, no sounds came out of her mouth, not even in a plea of desperation. A burning hot sensation strained through her, and Georgine could do nothing but accept it.
Jane was powerful, and once hit by the pain she sent your way, it was a struggle to get back up again, especially straight away.
Suddenly, Georgine had turned into a defeatist.
She lay, practically frozen to the ground, as if she was part snow, too, and watched the world continue on around her. Everyone was fighting━━vampires and werewolves, alike. It was hard to distinguish who was winning, but in her last semblance of hope, she prayed it was them. If Georgine was to die then, she hoped it wouldn't have been in vain.
Despite the suffering torture she was continuing to experience, her eyes moved to where Jasper once was, hoping to see him winning against his own fight.
But, she saw anything but that.
He was on the ground, too, thrashing and floundering about the place, in the same exact position as herself. Instantly, Georgine found herself look back towards Jane, only to find that she was no longer targeting her, but Jasper.
Georgine felt like she couldn't breathe, despite not even needing to.
She could only do so much after having been tortured and filled with pain beyond anything Georgine had ever hoped to experience. Jasper had previously gotten up quickly because he was a fighter, he was brought up with that life, it was just what he did. But, Georgine was no fighter. This was her first one, and it already seemed like it would be her last.
Pleading with everything within herself, every last piece of strength she had left, she attempted to force herself up, help Jasper, keep him alive. But, nothing seemed to work. There was no energy within her, nothing but emptiness and pain, and devoid of all the strength she had started the fight with.
If she couldn't move, she'd had her ability━━that was her plan. She focused and focused, mind completely concentrated on causing Jane just as much pain as she had caused the both of them, all of them.
The pain not only caused her to be practically immobile, but it caused her to be almost completely devoid of her ability, too. Single droplets of rain poured down onto them, doing nothing but cause the shit-eating grin upon Jane's features to increase.
God, she hated that bitch.
Jasper couldn't do anything; his head lolled onto the side of his shoulders in defeat as they dragged him to him knees. Their hands were all over him, as Georgine lay there watching, scrambling forwards in an attempt to get near him, but she wasn't fast enough. "No, no, no, no..."
In the next moment, he was tore apart.
"No!" Georgine cried out in pain━━the way she had felt beforehand, when Jane was torturing her endlessly, was nothing compared to what she felt now. She had just witnessed her fiancée, the love of her life, her romantic soulmate, die in front of her very eyes.
She couldn't do this; she couldn't. Her mother thought her to be dead, Carlisle was dead, and Jasper, too. Who knew who else would have to come to the same consequential end in order for them to win this fight?
That was when Georgine Brodeur had had enough, and she screamed.
A gut-wrenching, tear-jolting, throat-scratching scream completely tore through her entire being. If she'd have been human, she knew it would've caused her throat to bleed profusely, but she wasn't, and she had just seen Jasper━━her Jasper━━meet his end. And, she wanted payback.
At the sound of her scream, Jane's eyes widened in her direction, the smirk on her face only slightly beginning to fall off. One after another, an army of lightning bolts cascaded down from the sky. Georgine wasn't concentrating to begin with, causing an array of then to land sporadically all over the field, sometimes hitting people or sometimes narrowly missing them. It didn't matter━━she didn't care.
All she cared about was Jasper. And now, he was gone.
The force of her scream producing such a powerful crack of lightning and thunder caused a tear to begin seaming through the ground. It wasn't strong enough to completely open, and Georgine didn't necessarily want it to. All she wanted was to desperately crawl towards Jasper's limp, lifeless body, and hold him as close as she could before she, too, would follow him.
From behind her, it seemed someone had seen the crack Georgine effortlessly created, and, as they watched her crawl closer and closer to her lost love, an idea struck up in their mind.
With a yell of determination, and a forceful punch to the ground, it opened up, much bigger than what Georgine had been able to produce.
In the next moment, the two members of the Volturi that were attacking Jasper, and whom Georgine had consequently killed with her lightning, fell through, before Jasper followed along behind them.
Another scream ran past Georgine's lips, non-existent tears forming within her eyes and dripping down her cheeks. A lonely, longing hand reached out for comfort, in her fiancée previous direction, but no one reached back.
Without her realising, Jane's eyes had settled back on Georgine, and began to put her through torture, once more. Georgine didn't care that Jane was killing her━━in fact, she was glad. This would mean she would be following Jasper with open arms, allowing herself to be with him in the afterlife, as well.
If death follows you on that field, know that I won't be too far behind.
I'm on my way, Jas.
In the distance, a wolf howled.
♡
Alice stood still, waiting, patient, watching Aro's every move. Behind them, her family's breath hitched.
It was difficult to understand what was happening from such a far distance away, but whatever Alice had done, whatever she had shown him, had clearly worked. His eyes constantly shot from one of them to the other, a look of... resentment? upon his features. Why was he resenting them? What had Alice shown him?
"Now, you know." Alice spat, venomous. "That's your future, unless you decide on another course."
She had shown Aro his own future, all of theirs━━possibly the ultimate fight that had the chance to break out. He continued to stand there, shocked. Georgine wondered how his future had played out; how her own one had. Did she survive? Did Jasper? Or, in the end, did they high fall to the hands of the enemy? She hoped whatever happened, they were together, that they stuck to their promise. It wasn't as though she was living through it, or that she had to, but she still felt the emotions surge through her like they would've done.
"We cannot alter our course. The child still poses a grave threat." Caius immediately disagreed, wanting to pull his leader back into their side. He didn't want him to succumb to the Cullens orders. He wanted them to win.
From across the way, Edward spoke up. "But, what if you were sure she could remain concealed from the human world?" he offered, hope filtering in within his tone. "Could we live in peace?"
Peace. Imagine that. Since Georgine had met the Cullens and discovered such a world that contained supernatural creatures like vampires and werewolves, she had never really know the word. Bella, too. Both of the girls had been violently thrown into something they didn't understand, and peace was something that was unwilling to follow then. For ages, it had been threats that followed then: Victoria, a newborn army, the death of Bella, and suddenly the Volturi. No matter how many times they fought, or how many times they won, it seemed like they were just repeating the same cycle, over and over again. Sitting ducks in a waiting game.
Would they ever truly get the peace they so deserved?
Did they deserve it?
She supposed that was a question based on a matter of opinion.
"Of course," Caius scoffed━━Aro still hadn't said anything since; whatever Alice had made him watch clearly took a toll on him, and he was struggling to decide, "but, that cannot be known."
As Alice began walking back to her family, who held their arms open wide for her safe return, Edward replied smugly, "Actually, it can."
Her brother must've dead Alice's mind, because she was the only other one who knew of what he was referring to━━that must've been where she'd gone to, to succeed through with her unknown, secret plan. In the distance, just around the area Alice had miraculously appeared from, came two others, of a seemingly indigenous background.
No one said a word as they stalked past the Cullen coven, and through to the front, right towards Aro. Georgine gave Jasper's hand another squeeze of comfort.
"I've been searching for witnesses of my own among the Ticuna tribes of Brazil━━"
"We have enough witnesses━━"
Caius desperately tried to play leader, but this time, Aro finally spoke, demanding his brother to let them speak, to hear what they had to say. As a shock, everything seemed to be going in their favour.
One of the two in question━━the man━━didn't move forwards away from the woman next to him, but spoke with confidence, a hint of pride hidden in the back of his words. Georgine made sure to listen just as intently, too. "I am half human, half vampire━━like the child. A vampire seduced my mother, who died giving birth to me. My aunt Huilen," he directed towards the woman next to him, "raised me as her own. I made her immortal."
Silence settled amongst everyone present for a few moments, as they took in every word he spoke. They were on edge, wondering if this would be their downfall, or their miracle.
Bella stepped forward a foot or two, speaking to him directly. "How old are you?"
The pair in question turned back, looking solely on the coven behind them, the ones they had come to save (whether it was indirectly or not). "A hundred and fifty years."
A hundred and fifty years. That meant he had never posed a threat to humans, at least not enough for the Volturi to get involved, as they had never noticed him before.
Hope filled through Georgine's veins━━Renesmee would be able to live just as long as this man, then, wouldn't she? Is that what that meant? Turning her head to the left of her, her eyes fell upon Jasper's, and a small smile graced itself upon her lips. She didn't know if Jasper was smoking because she was, or because of how their situstion was slowly turning out well for them, but he returned it, nonetheless.
Interest piqued within Aro, too. "At what age did you reach maturity?"
He turned back, facing their enemies. "I became full-grown seven years after my birth. I have not changed since then."
"And... your diet?"
"Blood, human food." The more he spoke, the more relief washed through everyone behind them. They wouldn't have to fight. "I can survive on either."
Just behind Aro, Marcus' voice showed minuscule signs of disbelief, soft and slow. "These children... are much like us."
But, they could never please everyone━━whilst Marcus was leaning more towards their side the more the man spoke, Caius continued to grow frustrated, eyes never leaving the sight of Renesmee upon a wolf, safe. "Regardless, the Cullens have been consorting with werewolves; our natural enemies."
Aro turned, placing a small hand upon his brother's arm and slowly shook his head. Despite the relief that washed through the system of Georgine Brodeur, there was also light concern, too. In just one moment, with just one prediction from Alice, Aro had completely changed. No longer was he the cocky, creepy vampire who wanted to tear them all apart, both vampires and werewolves alike, limb from limb until only one of them was left. Now, he was... quiet. Too quiet. It caused Georgine to feel unnerved.
"Dear ones," he spoke to his coven, eyes distant, elsewhere, "there is no danger here. We will not fight, today." At his words, Caius seemed to become more upset━━the Cullens had since broke many laws compared to the last time they saw them (Georgine had been passed out at that point━━turning), and maybe they deserved some form of punishment. But, Caius would not be getting the fight he so desperately wanted━━none of them would. He had no choice but to abide by his leader's command.
So, one by one, the Volturi turned, left, and drifted away back into the background covered with snow, their black coats contrasting massively against the pure white everywhere else. None of them were happy with his decision, but it seemed they had no other choice, not unless they wished to die by the hands of Aro.
He stopped, giving them one last look, his last words merely just a whisper, "Such a prize." And, then, he was gone with the rest of them.
Suddenly, Georgine breathed out a breath of fresh air, disbelieving that they had somehow managed to win such a terrifying fight without actually having to. She turned, and immediately embraced Jasper in a hug, one he reciprocated with open arms, holding her just as tightly.
As his head was buried within her shoulder, hair tickling against his face (but, he didn't care), he took in her scent, remembering everything he loved about her. "I told you," he began, before letting go of her, hands placed gently on her upper arms, "huh? What did I tell you?"
Georgine couldn't say anything━━she was too relieved to properly form any words that actually made sense, in that moment. So, all she did was laugh; one filled with hope, and love, and life.
They had won.
And, no one had to die for it.
Only two people weren't happy with their outcome━━Vladimir and Stefan. They had been the ones so desperate for a fight, so ready to go down trying to defeat their worst enemy, and, despite having lived anyway, it seems they'd have rather died trying.
They mentioned how the Volturi would never forget what happened, never forgive them for not going down without a fight. And, maybe that was true. Maybe they were right. But, at that moment, it didn't really matter. It they were to come back at some point in the future, sooner or later, they'd deal with it. Right now, they had time. They had peace. That was what they wanted from the start, and with it finally in their grasps, no one wanted to let it go.
It seemed even vampires and werewolves were able to work with one another, and even though Irina had died because of a mistake she made, they knew it wouldn't be in vain.
She had made her decision, and now they'd have to live with that, knowing fate has a plan for everybody.
And, fate definitely had one planned for Georgine Brodeur and Jasper Hale...
NOTE.
