chapter fifteen.
bella, bella, bella

SO far as they knew, the Volturi hadn't come for them. No one had heard of any movement from the coven, travelling across worlds to entrap the new vampire; Alice hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary from the group. Nothing different had happened.

Georgine had spent the next few days building up her courage to hunt down an animal, lurking lonesomely within the forest. Again, she struggled every now and then to find the right pace of movement for her feet, the right amount of patience for skulking in the shadows of the forest, within the depth of its stomach. It had taken time (God knows they had enough of that), and patience and all the help she was offered, but eventually, she seemed to get the hang of it.

When she had caught her first one (a cougar!) finally managing to pounce upon its back, watching it struggle helplessly, its teeth bared and snapping in a threatening gesture, before finishing it off by snapping its neck, she had drained it dry. Somehow, it seemed to taste better, because she had been the one to catch her dinner and serve it up on her plate. Her teeth were stained red, eyes glistening with glee, watching as Jasper smiled euphorically, proudly. She had jumped into his arms, wrapping them tightly around his neck and bringing him closer to her than ever, as they celebrated━━she had finally began to feel as though her place was slowly cementing itself with the family.

Then, there were the days that consisted of Georgine practicing to use her powers. Admittedly, she was worried in the beginning━━she didn't want something so dangerous, like before, to happen again. For all she knew, she could completely lose all control of it, and end up hurting one of them, someone who she came to care for, to love, and that was the last thing she wanted. So, she made sure to continue her practices as far away as she could get from the house, still making sure to stay somewhere in Forks.

Originally, nothing had happened. She was concentrating as hard as she could, thinking about things that made her angry, remembering back to when Emmett had attempted to beat Jasper to a pulp, but nothing seemed to come from her. She thought, maybe, she needed to see something with her own eyes, rather than a memory, a recollection, to get her emotions running high, and conjuring up a storm. Georgine had told Jasper that, the next time she saw him, and instantly, he was forcing her back outside not even a minute after, claiming he was going to help her.

Georgine was fretting over what stunt he might end up pulling off in front of her to get her upset and angry, but he denied the assumption. Instead, he declared that he would be manipulating her emotions so she felt a certain way, carefully watching to see what else she could conjure up. She had been fully nothing but emptiness, until she switched them to pure bliss, feeling as though she was floating on a cloud, high up in the sky, where no one━━nothing━━could touch her. She had felt free.

At the sudden change in her emotions, the sun had shone brighter than ever, glistening down onto the ground, but that wasn't what surprised either of them. The wind had slowed almost to a stop, a the colour white began to fill up her eye-sight: snow. Little balls of snow, flakes in all shapes and sizes, flittered from the sky, cascading wilfully to their demise, before bleeding into earth. There wasn't much, but there was enough to surround their perimeter with just a minute layer.

The feeling of bliss, of elation, of being drunk of ecstasy, continued to bloom like a spring flower into her chest, as Jasper ran up to her, grabbing her within his strong, warm arms and twirling her around. Laughter filled the air, pride obvious in the atmosphere, and everything had felt right.

Georgine and Jasper had spent more time together than ever. In the day, they would do whatever to fill their time; sometimes they'd sit around and watch a film, seeing who would be the first one to cringe; sometimes Jasper would tell her stories of his past, of when he was a human, as they lay in each other's arm, comfort radiating from both bodies; sometimes Georgine would read one of her favourite books to him (Jasper seemed to have them all, when she had told him the list of her favourites...), Jasper just purely listening to the words that tumbled from her lips, focusing in on the way she said each word, not even bothering to understand what was going on in the story.

That was how every day had passed for the next week, and neither of them were getting tired of each other.

Neither of them had wanted their joy to end.

But, as they sat against the sofa, listening in on the news of that day, sunlight beaming in through every window, they realised their happiness was in need of a pause. Alice had been in the same room, sat down on one of the chairs leant up against the table, minding her own business as she scribbled away random notes only a singular piece of paper, before the pen had dropped from her hand, tumbling off the table and onto the floor.

Heads snapped in her direction, instantly on edge, knowing something was wrong. Alice stumbled up from her seat, gripping the table she had been leaning against tight in one hand, the other coming to caress her forehead. Georgine ran over, holding her, steadying her, careful so she didn't fall to the ground, too. She dipped her head to Alice's level, attempting to meet her eyes, but they were closed in concentration. "Alice, what is it?"

"It's━━" she shook her head; Alice looked like she had a headache, and, from an outsiders perspective, of someone who knew she had vivions, Georgine supposed it wasn't too far off from that feeling. "It's Bella."

As soon as the name fell from her lips, Georgine stiffened. Her grip on Alice tightened without her even realising it, and her eyes narrowed. Her thoughts swam away to the darkest l'art of her mind, sharing in her deepest worries━━what was wrong with Bella? Was she hurt? Was she... dead?

Outside, clouds had mingled together as one, creating a barrier, a shield away from the sun. The air turned dark, and one shake of thunder rumbled deeply in the distance. Fear, and terror, and worry overtook all of her senses, until she was nothing but a shaking mess, in desperate need of every answer should could get.

     "Ow━━ow! You're hurting me..."

Georgine hadn't realised her grip hadn't tightened even more as her mind wondered off into her nightmares. She sent Alice a fake smile, one that didn't reach her eyes, muttering an apology under her breath, but she wasn't all there. All she could think of was Bella, and her safety, and whether it was in jeopardy. There was nothing she could do to prevent it, otherwise.

     Bella. Bella. Bella.

She hadn't noticed Jasper by her side until her wrapped an arm securely around her shoulder, pulling her into the crook under him, his head resting against hers. He pecked her there, whispering for her to calm down, everything's fine, just breathe, before turning to Alice. "What's happened?" he asked carefully, so as not to worry Georgine again.

She shook her head. "I don't know━━it's all confusing, I━━for a minute there, I couldn't see Bella's future." That shocked Georgine; the thunder outside creeping closer to the home, panic flying around like butterflies in her stomach, begging for escape, for freedom.

Georgine was in denial. She swallowed the lump in her throat, as Jasper bought her even closer to his body. "No, that's━━that's not possible... is it?" Her question seemed to be aimed at Jasper as she turned up to him, only to find a guilty and solemn expression upon his features.

     That terrified her, even more.

Alice began to move. "I need to ring them."

But, Georgine was quicker. She ran over to where she had left her phone on the sofa, but forcing it into Alice's hands. "Here." She spoke, voice tight and shaky.

Alice muttered a quiet reply of thank you, before dialling Edward's number. The time it took for Bella to pick up seemed never-ending; Georgine began to believe that Bella was actually dead. She didn't know what she'd do with herself if she was━━Bella was like the sister she never had, she could only imagine losing her to feel like losing a part of yourself.

She tried to keep her emotions under control, however. The weather outside was only turning darker, she noticed, and attempted to focus her mind on anything else. The thought that normally helped calm her was Jasper; she thought of his warm embrace, his hands gently circling her back, and her nerves started to decrease. She didn't know if that was her doing, or his.

"Bella?" Alice exclaimed, down the phone, bringing Georgine back to their situation, her worry no longer festering. "Are you alright?" Confusion wedged itself within her tone.

Georgine concentrated hard, using her enhanced ability to hear Bella's responses. "I'm not 100% sure."

"Why?" Alice instantly asked back. "What's wrong?━━I just..." But, she didn't finish her sentence. Instead, she looked over at Jasper and Georgine, her stare questioning whether she should tell Bella the truth or not. Georgine was at a crossroads: if it was her in Bella's shoes, she would want to know the truth, especially if it involved her own life being in danger... but, then, from her perspective, Georgine wanted to shelter Bella as much as she possibly could, even if that meant not telling Bella the truth.

Georgine shook her head as she heard Bella exclaim down the phone, you just what? Alice, what did you see?. Alice never got to reply to the girl, however, because Carlisle entered the room, his expression worried━━lines creased in between his brows as they furrowed, hard, stern look across his face. The father beckoned for Alice to hand the phone over to him, and she did so without putting up a fight.

"Bella?" Carlisle called down the phone, "what's going on?"

Her voice was sudden, shaking. "I don't know━━I'm a little worried. Can vampires go into shock?"

That confused Georgine━━Alice hasn't said anything about something being wrong with Edward, so why was Bella worried about him? All the vampire wanted to know was what Alice's vision meant, as she continued to stay wrapped within Jasper's arms, waiting. "Has Edward been harmed?"

"No..." Silence filtered in her ears, then, and she hated it. She needed answers, otherwise she feared for the lives around them, careful not to let her emotions get the best of her, so a lightning bolt didn't come crashing down into the house. A small, almost-audible laugh escaped Bella's lips, before speaking. "I know that it's impossible, but I think that I'm pregnant." No, no, no━━like Bella said; that was impossible. Vampires couldn't get people pregnant... or, was it that she had been told that it was vampires who couldn't get pregnant. Maybe, they could still impregnate... The worry bubbles in her bones. "Carlisle, I swear, something just moved inside me."

Georgine shook her head, looking up at Jasper, the shock written clear across his face. "That's... that's not possible, is it?"

Jasper looked down at her, solemn-like, but he didn't reply.

Georgine worried for Bella's life, now, more than ever.

"Is this even possible?" Edward's voice suddenly came through the phone.

Carlisle sighed, thinking. "I don't know." He shook his head. "The sooner Bella's here, the sooner we can find out what it is. I need you to get to the mainland at once." Edward agreed, before they both put the phone down.

No one said anything for a moment━━Georgine stepped forward, unlooping herself from Jasper, facing Carlisle. Her expression was grim, fearful. "What does that mean? Is Bella okay?"

That was all she cared about.

     Bella, Bella, Bella.

Carlisle didn't want to tell Georgine the truth, he didn't want to be the bearer of bad news, he didn't want to be the one to make the girl feel upset. He knew he had to be careful, incase it all got too much for her and she lashed out━━none of them truly knew the full extent to her powers, and they didn't want to find out, just then.

He sighed. "I don't... completely know. What I do know, is that Bella will be here in just a few hours, and I'm going to have to run some tests. If there is something inside of her, I'll have to do everything in my power to get it out...

     "Before it kills her..."

If Georgine's heart could still beat, she knew if would've stopped dead in its tracks, as her eyes landed on Bella.

She didn't look anything like herself, anymore. Her face had almost shrunken in on itself; no longer pale, but grey, dark clouds festering underneath her eyes. Bones had begun to protrude out, showing off her presence against her fragile skin. Georgine was scared she would start to rip, with how skinny she looked. But, that wasn't the thing that shocked her the most.

A bump was making its way around Bella's belly━━it wasn't massive, but it was still big. Nothing about the situation sat right with Georgine━━Bella had only just found out about the possibility of her carrying... something... she shouldn't have been showing so much, so early.

As they arrived, Edward had left Bella to walk up the front steps by herself, even as she began to struggle a little, quickly moving past Georgine, who was standing, frozen in shock and horror, by the door. His expression was stern, hard, no emotion clear upon his features. She shook her head, before instantly beginning to move towards Bella, taking her in her arms and leading her up. No words were shared between the pair, because neither of them knew what to say, neither of them knew the right words, if there even were any. They shared a brief smile, one that didn't reach either pair of eyes.

Everything about it broke Georgine, more and more.

Carlisle had eventually helped Georgine bring Bella bring her up the steps, as she struggled to move a good amount of distance on her own, and into a separate room he had prepared for her before. He explained that he was going to run just a few, quick tests, just to get a brief understanding of what was happening to her, and Georgine took that as her time to leave. She didn't know if Bella had wanted her there, at such a persona circumstance, and Georgine didn't want to overstep any of her boundaries, when everything right seemed to turn so wrong

As she's leaving the room, she walks past Edward. Since she had last seen him, at their wedding, everything had been right━━Georgine remembered feeling so elated, so blissfully happy for the couple. And, yet, now, a low stem of hatred began to boil in her system, for the way he was acting around his own wife, like it was her fault. Georgine crossed her arms over her chest, cocking a brow in his direction. "Hope all of this isn't inconvenient to you." She sneered, and walked away.

Part of her felt guilty for speaking to Edward that way instantly━━he was suffering at this prospect, too. But, all of her emotions seemed to be bubbling up and into one volcanic eruption, as her mind refused to block out thoughts of Bella's future, and whether it existed. And, when she had noticed Edward's expression, the way he was looking at Bella, everything exploded, and Edward was just the one person to take all of her shit, at that time.

Two weeks had passed since they had their first visitor.

When Jacob arrived, Bella had been moved into another room━━one where she could lay down comfortably, relax, breathe. (God knows, she hadn't had any of that with Edward breathing down her neck.) A group of them stood around her limp figure, shielding her from the overbearing world surrounding her. Georgine could hear muffled voices coming from downstairs, and noticed it to be Carlisle and Jacob, speaking in hushed, hurried tones.

That was when a revolting, pungent smell drifted up and into her nostrils. She brought her hand up to cover her nose, recoiling back. "Oh, God," she complained aloud, "what's that smell?"

Alice chuckled. "That'll be Jacob━━the wet dog smell."

Georgine shook her head, trying desperately to get rid of the smell that wouldn't seem to leave her. She continued to be repulsed. "Wow, I━━"

But, she was cut off as Jacob soon ran up the steps, figure entering the room, stopping everything from continuing. A tense atmosphere fell between the group, all golden pairs of eyes staring the werewolf intently down. They watched as his eyes raked over each over them, looking for he solace in Bella. He paused, however, when they attached to Georgine━━his gaze never wavered from her own eyes, scarlet in their dashing new colour, and he shook his head, scoffing. "Huh, so they got you in on it, too?"

Georgine was quick to defend herself. "I never chose this, Jacob." Her voice was sharp, making sure to let the werewolf know that her words were full of truth.

"Yeah, that's the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard━━"

Jasper made movement towards him, eager to attack him for speaking to Georgine in such cruel tones, but, the girl grabbed his arm within her hand, grip tight, holding him in place. Carlisle stepped forward, too, making himself clear within their atmosphere, standing in between both males. Georgine continued to hold Jasper in place, her other arm coming up to rub gentle circles against his, whispering in his ear that he needed to calm down; he didn't need to act so brashly.

Jacob shook his head, scoffing once more at their actions (Georgine made her grip stronger on Jasper's arm as he began to tremble in anger and annoyance, but the emotion seemed to be slipping away the longer she held on), before walking forwards to where Bella lay on the couch. As he moved, Rosalie stepped forward, too, blocking his path, leaving him unable to see the girl. A threatening look was upon her features, all the vampires watching him carefully, in case he tried anything funny. They were protective of Bella anyway, but more so than ever, then.

"What's your problem?" snapped Jacob, testing Rosalie. Georgine hoped their argument wouldn't continue much further━━a fight between a vampire coven and a werewolf wasn't exactly something Bella needed to witness in her state.

"Rose," Bella's voice was soft, reassuring, "it's okay."

The vampire in question let Jacob past, but her eyes continued to travel down his figure in distaste, in disgust. He sat down on the couch next to Bella, and Georgine stood up straighter than she already was (becoming a new vampire had even changed her posture!), eagerly watching their interactions, like everyone else in the room.

He sighed. "You look terrible."

Georgine scoffed.

Bella shook her head, a smile teasing itself upon her chapped lips. "Yeah, it's nice to see you, too."

"So..." he looked around, "are you gonna tell me what's wrong with you?"

No one had told him? A small dosage of sympathy had wormed its way into her system, knowing how much this was going to kill him━━Jacob was just as much a friend to Bella as she was (slightly slower), and she knew he'd go to the ends of the Earth to protect her, too. Seeing Bella in such a heart-wrenching state hurt them all.

Bella looked towards Rosalie, gesturing for her to help her up. Grabbing her by the arms, she lifted her up with ease. Bella's oversized shirt seemed to have ridden up and over her protruding stomach, on show for them all to see. Georgine had never seen a pregnancy before, but even she knew that the way Bella's body was reacting towards it wasn't the way it should normally go.

The werewolf looked her up and down in shock, disbelief written across her tight features, before his seething irises landed on where Edward was standing, a little ways away. He stormed towards him, shaking in anger. "You did this!"

Everyone moved quickly, ready to defend their brother from the oncoming attack, but Emmett quickly stopped him from moving any closer with just one arm.

Carlisle attempted to sooth the situation. "We didn't even know it was possible."

     "What is it?"

It? That was a bit far, wasn't it? What was inside of Bella wasn't a monster, it was just a baby.

"We're not sure." Carlisle spoke the truth, careful not to anger the violence-prone werewolf any further. "Ultrasounds and needles won't penetrate the embryonic sac."

From where Georgine was standing (in between Jasper and Alice), Alice sighed, speaking forward. "I can't see it, either... And, I can't see Bella's future anymore." As the dreaded words tumbled from Alice's mouth, Jasper took Georgine hand within his own grip, squeezing tight, comforting her.

Everyone was becoming more and more worried about Bella everyday, and the closer it got to her letting out that baby, the more tense they all became. For once in their immortal lives, none of them had the future held tightly within their palms, knowing of what was to become of them. Georgine believed that was what worried them the most.

     Bella, Bella, Bella.

"We've been researching legends," the father figure went on to explain, "but there isn't much to go on. What we do know, is that it's strong. And, fast-growing."

Jacob couldn't seem to believe the words he was hearing; an incredulous look spread across his features. "Why haven't you done anything━━take it out of her!"

That was when Georgine erupted, bringing their attention to her. "It? What's inside of Bella isn't an it; it's a baby!" Jasper's girl in her hand squeezed, once more, this time signalling for her to not get too involved. Of course, she was going to get involved━━this was still her best friend, and she'd go down dying to protect her.

Rosalie finished her argument off. "This is none of your business, anyway, dog."

"Girls!" Esme finally spoke up, reprimanding her daughters. "All this fighting isn't good for Bella."

"The fetus isn't good for Bella." Alice piped up.

Georgine looked incredulously at her, not believing how Alice could've spoken so lowly of what was growing inside of Bella. Sure, she understood that what was happening to Bella wasn't good, and they needed to find a solution to stop it as fast as they could, but it was just baby━━an innocent, little, bundle of joy, that could bring no harm to anybody. If they killed her purposely, than they were no better than the vampires that killed for blood.

But, Rose was a lot sharper, a lot hotter, with her words. "Say the word, Alice. Baby. It's just a little baby."

Georgine defended her. "A baby can do no harm━━it won't hurt anyone."

"It can hurt Bella." Jasper blurted, his words blunt. He looked down at Georgine, noticing the surprise on her face, his own showing looks of culpability, shaking his head. "We don't even know if it is a baby."

Georgine was a loss of words; unable to comprehend that only herself and Rosalie could see sense to what was happening. A baby could do no harm, what was the threat? Besides hurting Bella, there wasn't much. It wasn't like it was going to kill her, eventually... was it?

Jacob sighed, looking away from the rest of the group and to Carlisle, knowing the father had a chance to do something, anything.  "Carlisle, you've gotta do something━━"

"No!" Bella's voice reverberated through all arguments surrounding her, until there was nothing but static. Everyone looked down at her, noticing that it was the first time she had spoken for a short while, even when it was all about her.

     (Bella, Bella, Bella.)

"It's not his decision━━it's not any of yours."

Edward spoke up then, this time, for the first time, signalling that he wished to speak to Jacob alone. They walked out, a few feet in between them, until they were all left alone in dooming silence. Georgine looked up at Jasper, motioning her head in the direction behind, in the corner, by the windows, where they could speak privately (or, at least, as privately as they could, when living with other vampires). It was the first time Georgine was prepared to have an argument with him. "What's the matter with you? If Bella wants this baby, why can't she have it?"

"Because we don't even know if it is a baby, Georgine. What if, by leaving it too late, and letting her give birth to... whatever it is, we're just leading her to her death, hmm?" His words struck Georgine hard to the stomach, realisation upon her face that Bella could actually die from going along with it.

She stumbled through her words. "I... I know how this has the chance of ending, and believe me, I'm the last person that wants that outcome. But, it's Bella's body━━it's her decision, and if she wants to go through with it and give birth to the baby, then I'll be behind her, every step of the way, holding her hand."

He sighed, taking her words into consideration, before shaking his head. "I just━━I don't want to see my brother go through what he went through the last time he thought Bella was dead." Georgine thought back to the time when she was told what had happened━━Edward believed Bella to be dead because she had gone cliff-diving, and ended up hitting her head and falling unconscious. There, Alice couldn't see her future, either, and presumed her to be deceased. "It was heart-breaking, seeing him go through all of that. If Bella dies, the cycle will only repeat itself, and he'll try to... kill himself again. That's why I'm so against it."

Georgine nodded, understanding views and where he was coming from. She grabbed ahold of his right hand, clasping it within her own, before bringing it up to her mouth, peppering light kisses along his fingers. "I get that... even if we're on opposite sides of the same coin, I don't want to argue with you about it."

A smile bloomed across his features, then, the sadness being wiped away with just one stroke, and they engulfed one another into each embrace, vowing to not let it come between them.

Even in such a tough situation, they still managed to come together, in the end. Bella was in ultimate danger, a threat that could potentially kill her, but even when they both had complete opposites views, it all came down to Bella, and her safety, and the protection of her entire being.

Bella, Bella, Bella.

NOTE.
hi i actually really like this chapter, and it's name?? idk why,, i just do. i also feel like my writing is becoming a lot more dialogue heavy and idk how i feel about that right now. who knows. i don't think it's too bad. as u can also tell, georgine & edward have a rocky relationship during this act, purely bc they both want what's best for bella, but they're on completely different sides,, and that then makes a conflict between the two.
