the kiss of death
AFTER everybody was packed and ready to leave, they did. It was decided that the two (unfortunate?) humans were due a very much-needed break away from all the talk of the unavoidable fight that would be happening only days away. So, that night, Georgine stayed over at Bella's. It wasn't weird, or anything, purely because it had been a normal occurrence for a short while, since before they graduated. Lately, they were spending their time with each other more than anybody else they knew (save for the Cullens)━━they weren't complaining. This way, they could talk about whatever was on their minds━━the only two humans in the entire town that knew of the secret, supernatural world had to stick together (they'd probably crash and burn if they didn't).
The Cullens promised to continue keeping guard of both their houses, in case there were any more red alarms, or signs of the suspected intruders━━they were given the opportunity to relax, to forget, and they were grabbing it with firm hands.
It wasn't too late into the night when they eventually arrived at Bella's, but, straight away, they went to lay in her bed. For a while, sat comfortably in lounge clothes, they watched the television, a film playing quietly. Although, neither of them were really paying much attention to it. Both girls had a lot swimming around in their minds, enough to distract them from anything but their thoughts. Neither of them were willing to speak of what they truly wanted to, however━━yet, in the end, it seemed to have gotten too much to cope with by themselves. For hours into the midnight sky, the moonlight completely encapsulating their emotions well, they let all their worries go, floating away until they were nothing but in the far distant, stupid anxieties. Georgine spoke about her concerns that came to her earlier that day, and the words she had shared with Alice; the atmosphere in the air suddenly brightened━━they were two teenage girls, again, gushing over cute boys.
But, it was soon all brought back when it was Bella's turn to rant. She voiced her troubles; her conflicting thoughts on her relationship with Edward. Ultimately, Bella wanted him to turn her, into one of them, into a vampire. It wasn't all too surprising, since she had heard it before in a passing comment not all that long ago, but she was still a little taken aback each time, and probably consistently would be. She loved Edward, and he loved her━━Georgine understood that... but enough to turn into a vampire? She supposed, one day, there was a slight chance she may fall into the same dilemma, if it all worked out with Jasper...
Bella also spoke of Edward's compromise━━if Bella agreed to marry him, he would, in turn, turn her. It was kind of... weird. Edward was using Bella's wish of becoming a vampire to lure her into the idea of marrying him. Well, she supposed it wasn't all that weird, considering they were dating. Besides, if Bella wanted one thing, why couldn't Edward have something, too. It was almost sweet; that the one thing he wanted in return to Bella's wish was to just marry her.
"So, what are you going to say?"
"Yes, probably━━knowing me."
After that, not much else was said━━both girls passed out in the early hours of the morning. It wasn't a good idea, keeping in mind that the day after, they needed to be on an even higher alert, paying the upmost attention to every detail provided to them. The days until the inescapable fight we're drawing closer and closer, creeping on them, decreasing━━they needed to be ready.
The next morning, the plan was for Edward to come and pick them both up. Georgine knew that he was going to be taking them to some field, where it had the potential for the fight to take place, and that was about all she knew. So, she dressed herself into the most comfortable clothes she had on her person (she had previously left a few items of clothing as Bella's house, for purposes such as this━━a hoodie and leggings, that's the comfiest she can go, okay?), and by then, all she was waiting for, was Edward.
It was perfect timing: just as Bella walked down the stairs, ready to leave, there was a knock on the door. Silence rang through them to begin with as they each walked down the front porch, until Bella spoke up. "I'm not just gonna hide while you're out taking all the risks for me." Clearly, Bella didn't want to be seen as weak, as fragile, as human. But, she couldn't get involved, could she? She was human, and someone like her, trying to fight (or, trying to do anything) against several vampire, was just plain suicidal.
Georgine was more than happy to hide on the sidelines.
"If it's Victoria involved, we need to keep you both as far away from the fight as possible." Edward explained, his protective side coming out. Georgine was thankful that he was acting that way towards her, too━━it was proof that he shared true compassion towards his brother, and therefore, herself.
"So, you think it's Victoria?" Georgine asked. She had began to believe that this Victoria female could be the one behind everything a while ago━━she had the motive, so, why wouldn't she?
It as Bella who turned to her. "It has to be. Everything makes sense when it's her." There was a pause, one where each of the three were contemplating their futures; what would happen to them? What would happen to Victoria? She turned back to Edward. "Jasper said that I could be of help."
"We won't need your help. With the wolves in this, it's an easy win. The rest of us aren't gonna have enough to do."It was true; they were told that with the wolves on their side, it gave them a massive advantage━━the newborns wouldn't even know of their existence.
Bella shook her head, defiance clear in her expression. Her eyes never wavered from Edward. "Okay, either it's so dangerous that I have to hide, or it's so easy that you're gonna be sidelined. Which is it?"
"We're human Bella; we wouldn't stand a chance. They would." Georgine voiced, already wishing she was anywhere else. It was one thing to witness a couple's conversation without fully being involved, but it was another to be witnessing a brewing arguement.
"It's dangerous for you; it's easy for us."
Agreed.
They walked a couple of steps forwards, closer to Edward's car, before Bella turned around, stopping them all in their tracks. "I think it's dangerous for us to be apart━━"
Yep, she's out.
Immediately, Georgine excused herself from their conversation (or, rather, bickering), opening the back door of the jeep and climbing inside. She turned her head, not wishing to intrude any further, and watched through the window of the other side. The wind wasn't too strong that day, but it was present; the trees howled against the wind, leaves falling carelessly to their demise. It was beautiful; Georgine loved weather like that━━it was calming, relaxing, euphoric, to her. If she could, she'd keep it that way forever.
She turned back; from her view inside the car, it seemed they were coming to an agreement━━Edward wasn't seriously considering letting both Bella and Georgine near the fight, was he? They'd die in seconds. The wind would carry their scent down to the field, inviting them to eat, and they'd be dead━━as easy as that. Unless, they came to another compromise?
They both entered the car not too long after that, not a word spoken between them. For a moment, Georgine didn't know if her eyes had deceived her━━maybe they hadn't come to an agreement. But, she was proven right when Bella turned around in the passenger seat, an expression on her face that Georgine found difficult to read. "We're still going away, but Edward will be there, too━━we'll have more protection than just the two of us."
She didn't know if that made her feel better, or worse━━now knowing that another argument could rouse up at any given moment...
The drive to the field only took them around 7 minutes (maybe a little longer, at a stretch). Jasper was already there, waiting for them, his expression hard. Yet, as soon as Georgine stepped out, his face softened, shoulders relaxed. It was comforting, almost, to know that Georgine could make Jasper feel that way━━knowing this made her feel a lot more at ease with her own feelings. They embraced, firm but gentle, and exchanged smiles of reassurance; his speaking words of protection, and hers speaking words of relief.
Green filtered every inch of Georgine's peripherals; all shades, in all areas. The field where the fight would eventually be taking place was fairly big in size, enough for them, she supposed. It was like it was made to act as a battleground, like this was its purpose, and maybe it would finally be fulfilling it.
Georgine walked next to Jasper, her arm linked within his own as the other one lay limply at her side. Edward and Bella were only paces in front, eager to get to the point. Off in the distance, they spotted Jacob walking in their direction, shirtless. Before they all reached the middle, he spoke━━it was obvious he was trying to cause something already, by picking an argument with Edward; although, he didn't seem to bite back.
"You're not fighting? What━━? Did you pull a muscle, or something?" Edward only let out a breathy chuckle, hidden under his breath as he looked to the ground.
Bella attempted to calm the situation before it could easily get out of hand. "He's doing it for me, okay?"
"Whatever. Just tell me the plan."
Jasper turned to Jacob, Georgine's grasp still tight within his own. Golden eyes pierced into brown ones. Unwanted. "This field will give us an advantage in battle. We need to lure the newborns with... Bella's scent."
He paused, and the way he only spoke Bella's name caused confusion to wash through several people. It seemed as though Jasper and Edward were the only two who knew of the meaning behind it; the other three were completely in the dark. "What do you mean?"
"Why only my scent?" Bella questioned, protective.
The vampires, ridden with knowledge of the answer, shared a look, as if they were conversing telepathically with each other (maybe they were, because they seemed to do it quite a lot ━━unless they had known each other for so long that they could just read each other's eyes...?). A brief moment of silence, sparse the whistling of the wind and trees being forced to sway, enveloped the five of them, before it was Edward who spoke up. "Your scent... is difficult to catch."
Okay, now Georgine was really confused.
What did that mean? Why was her scent 'difficult to catch', yet Bella's was so identifiable that it had to be masked? None of it made any sense to her, even if she was a human.
She looked up to Jasper, her grip of his arm loosening as the seconds dwindled by, brows furrowed and eyes narrowed. But, he wouldn't look at her, not until he was forced through her questioning. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Now, his own eyes (beautiful, as they shone against the sunlight, reflecting off them, bouncing away into the darkness of the trees) stared down into her own, into her soul. He looked, somewhat, worried, concerned. It only caused her to feel the same way. "It means your scent is... that your scent is non-existent, practically."
Non-existent?
It was Bella who spoke first. "But, why is Georgine's non-existent, when mine is isn't. Is that normal?" There was that question, that word; normal. Was she normal? What did this mean for her━━her non-existent scent?
And, then, everything seemed to become much more hazed, the terror overlapping her heart, running through her bloodstream like it was apart of her, helping her live, the sole purpose of her existence; with those words━━
"No; it isn't normal."
♡
So, Georgine wasn't normal.
Whatever the hell that meant.
(She knew she was slightly weird━━especially now she was involved with vampires━━but this was a whole different game, now!)
She didn't have a scent. Granted, it was never something she'd necessarily consider normal, anyway, before she had known about the existence of vampires. But, now she did; and she knew it was normal for a human to have a scent, one that linked to their blood.
But, Georgine didn't have that.
Why?
It was all too much to think about. At one point, she was worried she was going to cry from the stress of it all━━but she willed herself to stay strong. At least, for the time being, she wouldn't cry... not until she was alone.
After that, the conversation shifted the atmosphere; it was just slightly awkward, now. Georgine wasn't blaming anyone━━don't get her wrong━━but she didn't know what to make of the whole situation. It was too much.
They spoke about the three of them (Georgine, Edward and Bella) being at a campsite quite a distance away during the fight, for the added protection (and the pure fact that neither of the couple wanted to be without the other). At one point, Jasper had voiced how he, too, wished to be there for Georgine, but Edward was quick to argue. Out of all the fighters, Jasper was the one who knew the most about newborns (he knew their tricks, their mannerisms, their reactions...) ━━he was needed in the fight, because he had the most experience. He didn't want to leave her, but after Edward promised to protect her, and Georgine stating that everything would be fine, he agreed.
(If only any of them knew of what was to come.)
Eventually, after plans were sorted out and everything was seemingly prepared for, they were to leave. And, Georgine decided that she was due a visit back home, to her mother. It had only been several days since she had last seen her (at the graduation), but she was beginning to miss her like they had been apart for years. God, how was she going to cope when she leaves for good?
Bella had offered to drop her off at her home in her truck, which Georgine gratefully accepted. She was feeling happy, excited about seeing her mother again. Even when she knew she couldn't tell her mother everything that had been happening in her life for however long, she knew she just needed to see her━━to pretend like everything was normal.
But, as Bella parked up and Georgine left the vehicle, the truck slowly beginning to drive away from behind her, she spotted Jasper standing in front of the door, alongside her mother. It was a sight, that was for sure; one Georgine didn't know what to make of.
The pair (or, rather, Jasper) must have sensed her presence behind their conversation, for it swiftly came to an end and Jasper began to make his way towards her. A smile upturned one side of his mouth, his eyes taking over her own, and he stopped in front of her. She returned one, too, although her eyes held even more confusion. "What are you doing here?"
"What━━you don't want me here?" He was teasing.
She shook her head playfully, unbelievingly, but her expression still held its defiance. He continued, "I was just paying a visit to your mother, like Alice is doing with Charlie. We've told them that we're going camping, and you and Bella were invited, too."
Georgine relaxed, and suddenly, she began to feel a lot more at ease. It was a good plan. Although, even as she started to feel more brighter, everything seemed to come crashing back down━━
Normal.
"Hey," Jasper suddenly spoke up. He moved towards her, his hand grasping her own firmly; his thumb coming up to rub against the back of her hand, "I know I said that it isn't normal, but that doesn't mean it a bad normal, right?" Georgine struggled to look him fully in the eye, embarrassment flooding up to her cheeks━━she was actually worrying about this? (But, she didn't have a scent, when everyone else did━━surely it was bound to cause her to feel a little uneasy...?) "You don't need to stress about anything; I promise. Everything's going to be fine, and if it isn't, then I'll make it."
Jasper made her feel a whole lot better within a matter of a few seconds━━she could seriously get used to it. Lately, her emotions were all over the place; she needed someone who could bring her back to the ground like that, and she was intent on keeping Jasper around.
"Oh," he cut through her thoughts, "just to let you know, as well, that it's better for you to stay with us during the nights━━it's just easier for everyone. So, that means tonight, it's just me, you, Bella and Edward━━in separate rooms, obviously. Everybody else is going out hunting before the fight."
Just them...? The prospect of that made Georgine's heart flutter more, and she prayed that Jasper hadn't picked up on it (oh, he definitely did).
Two humans, two vampires, alone in a house for the night...
Ah, normality.
♡
After Jasper left, Georgine came to the realisation that she was now going to have to face her mother.
It was safe to say that she was dreading it, now━━before, she was feeling euphoric to finally feel as though everything was calm, and be able to only be in the presence of her mother. Yet, Georgine knew how their conversation was going to go. Sandra had been speaking to Jasper on their front porch━━granted, he was telling her the excuse so she wouldn't worry when they were gone for a short while━━so, now, she would be constantly firing burning questions at her containing that topic.
She had been hoping for anything but that.
Thankfully, whilst her and Jasper had been conversing, her mother had stepped back inside (although, Georgine wouldn't be all that surprised if Sandra was peeking through a window━━she was kind of nosy like that). This gave her time to just... breathe. She knew there would be questions she may not be able to answer, because the answer would get too complicated and unrealistic; she would have to lie her way through, and after what had happened the last time she tried to lie to her mother, she really didn't want to have to do it again.
Then, there was the idea that her and Jasper would be staying alone together, that night. Yes, the pair would also be in the same house as Bella and Edward, but they wouldn't be in the presence of one another, potentially in the same room, for the majority of the night. Georgine didn't know what the arrangements were; she didn't know whether she would be sleeping in a room with Bella, or if she'd be on her own (she didn't mind, either); and, she didn't know what would happen with Jasper. Would something happen? She sure wanted it to━━at least, something━━but, even at the prospect of it, she begun to get nervous.
Suddenly, her previous worries started to force their way back into her mind: she was a human, and Jasper was a vampire. It shouldn't work! And, yet, she had wanted it to, nothing but that. Jasper had been arguably the only guy she had felt so strongly about, and he just so happened to be a vampire. It was just her and Bella's luck━━to eventually fall in love with two vampires. But, no matter how dangerous it was, no matter the costs they had to pay, it seemed as though both girls weren't about to give anything up. They would continue falling down a spiral of love and adoration, and they weren't stopping any time soon.
So, taking a deep breath, Georgine began to make her way towards the front door, preparing for the interrogation she knew what brewing like a storm.
As she walked in, she the house to be eerily quiet. The house was quiet at times, but never when her mother was home. She made her way around the corner, and found Sandra Brodeur sitting at the kitchen table; her stance and posture was unnatural. Instantly, Georgine knew her mother had been looking out the window, watching their interactions. (Typical Sandra.)
"Hey, Mom," Georgine greeted, a tight smile upon her face. Her mother jumped in (fake) shock, a weird expression being shown, and gave her daughter an awkward smile. Georgine narrowed her eyes, not understanding why her mother was acting that way when she knew what her mother had been doing, previously.
"Hi, baby."
"Mom," she reprimanded, "cut the bullshit. I know you were watching us."
Sandra began to catch her words, surprised. It was funny; she had been caught, but was still trying to go along with the act. "I don't know what you're talking about━━"
"Mom!"
"Alright, alright! Maybe I was watching you. So what?━━I can't watch over my daughter and make sure she's okay?" Hmm, now it just seemed like she was trying to play the victim card.
Georgine shook her head. "Why wouldn't I be okay? I was with only Jasper."
Her mother then tilted her head, her expression knowingly, eyes deceivingly. What was she trying to get at? "You know why..."
Oh God, did her mother know? Did she know what the Cullens were, and that Georgine had been with them for however long, and not told her mother, and had practically began to fall in love with one of them━━
No. Her mother couldn't know. If she did, she'd have been freaking out a lot more. Her daughter had been with vampires; like, that's not something you just let slide so easily.
So, what was she talking about?
"...Because he was the boy you told me you kind of liked."
Oh, that conversation. Gerogine had forgotten all about that.
She laughed, shaking her head as she looked down to the floor. "Um, yeah. Didn't realise you'd remember that, though, Mom."
"Sweetie," her mother chastised, standing up from her seat. She made her way towards her daughter, her hands coming up to rub against Gerogine's arms, "I know everything about my only daughter━━you should know this by now." (Well, you don't know everything, do you?) Silence came between them, with her mother staring intently at her; maybe she was waiting for Georgine to say something, but no words would come out of her mouth. She didn't want to be the one to start this conversation, especially when she knew exactly where it would be heading. "So, are you... you know?"
Why, why, why did she have to have this conversation?
Georgine huffed, a deep sigh escaping her lips. "Um, not really." She made the decision to not tell her mother about their almost-kiss━━Georgine didn't even know if it was an almost-kiss. There was that slight chance that she had imagined it almost happening, and that only made her nerves spiral upwards at the thought of later that night.
"Oh." Her mother sounded disappointed, her face falling. "It sure looked like something outside..." Sandra's mind was running a thousand miles per hour, the clocks twisting and turning and she tried to piece everything together. Looking back at her daughter, a smile began to creep up along her face. "Unless, you want something to happen?"
She hated how her mother could read her so easily.
Red flood Georgine's cheeks, blossoming along like flowers. She felt the heat rise up to her face, and lowered her head, hoping her mother hadn't seen anything. But, (with her luck) of course, she had. Sandra let out an almost-silent squeal, hands covering her face as her smile only grew in size. In just a second, Sandra pulled her daughter into a tight huge, swinging her back and forth in delight.
(Wait, who's the adult in this situation again?)
Eventually, Sandra let her go. "Ooh, I knew something was happening since you first told me about him!━━or, well, at least, I believed something was going to happen━━but I was right either way!"
Georgine's cheeks had died down just a little, but she could still feel the heat radiating there. She hoped they'd go down, soon. "How could you have known then? I only mentioned his name once, and that was because I thought he was acting weird."
"Well," her mother pointed a finger in her direction, wiggling it about in a teasing fashion, "it was clear that he was 'acting weird' to get you're attention."
(Oh, mother, if you only knew the truth.)
Georgine laughed, letting the truth subside from her mind, and nodded her head, letting the flow continue on, letting her mother believe she was right all along. Sandra bought her daughter into another hug, this one not so tight and childish━━this one more sweet and caring. As she let go, however, her expression suddenly changed from delight to serious. Oh no, she knew where this was going. "So, I've been told that you're going camping with the Cullens."
She nodded, smile tight but worried. She really didn't want this part of the conversation. "Yeah, yeah. It's like a tradition, or something. Jasper told me about it, but I wasn't really listening for most of it." God, she was terrible at lying. The 'tradition' part of the lie didn't sound too bad, in her opinion━━it was the other part. Gerogine knew that whatever Jasper had to say to her, she'd be listening with all ears, tuning out everything else like his voice was the only thing that mattered. She was thankful her mother didn't know that part about her.
"Hmm, he said." She paused, walking behind her daughter to lean up against the counter top. Her arms rested behind herself, and her eyes attached themselves straight away to her daughter's. She rushed out her words before her daughter could try to think about interrupting. "Look, I know you don't want to hear any of this, but you know I'm going to worry and I just want you to be careful━━"
Why, why, why did she have to have this conversation?
"━━Mom!"
"I know you don't want to hear it━━"
"━━I'll be fine, trust me! We haven't even kissed yet!"
"Just taking precautions, honey."
Georgine only sighed, before walking away, upstairs and into her bedroom, her head continuously shaking along the way. Here, she sat and contemplated everything that could be taking place that night━━would they kiss? Would something happen?
All she could do, was wait to find out and see.
♡
Later that night, Jasper finally finally returned. The sky was turning black, stars coming out to play and shine for all those below to admire. Gerogine must have been daydreaming, as she stared at the sky, because the next thing she knew, Jasper was walking through her bedroom door.
"You're mother let me up." He announced.
Georgine let out a small laugh, shaking her head lightly. "Surprised she let you do that, if I'm honest."
Jasper looked confused, eyebrows furrowed. "What do you mean?" Oh, she wasn't about to tell him about that conversation, that was for sure. So, she only shook her head, telling him to forget about it.
They didn't stay still and chatting for long, because as they darkness befell the sky like a blanket over a bed, covering all it could see, they knew they had to get back━━there would always be that chance, in the back of everyone's mind, that a rogue vampire was going to come back to Georgine's house. If they did, they couldn't see her moving away to another house for the night; it was dangerous, and it would only possibly cause more chaos. So, with her bags packed and ready to go, they did. As they passed her mother, sitting lonesomely upon the sofa, watching aimlessly at the television screen (or, was she just waiting for them to eventually come down the stairs?), everyone bid each other goodbye. Before she got through the front door, however, just inches away from closing it, she spotted her mother eying her, their conversation from earlier coming straight to mind. She only shut the door, as quickly as she could.
The drive didn't necessarily consist of much, either. It wasn't a long one, so neither of them felt the need to speak up. Besides, Georgine was kind of nervous. As the music played softly in the background, adding some noise to the atmosphere around them, she remembered how she hadn't done something like this before. She had never stayed over at a boy's house (let alone really gotten this far with one)━━how was she supposed to know what was going to happen? The idea of this prospect only caused her to feel more nerves, her heartbeat beginning to pick up speed, enough to━━
And, then, it calmed down. A hand coming to clamp itself against her own, as it lay lifelessly against her leg.
The sky was truly day once they arrived at the infamous house, but the lights turned on inside were luminescent, lighting up the pathway to their destination. Jasper informed her that Edward and Bella were already inside, having gotten there around an hour ago, or. Gerogine could only think how empty the house looked━━so open, so bright, and yet, no known movement.
Georgine was directed by Jasper into the same room she slept in last time she had stayed over (the only change now was the rest of the Cullens were in the house, too). She glad it was the same; some sense of familiarity when she was this nervous made her feel much more calmer.
So, Georgine excused herself to get changed in the bathroom attached, ready to come back out in comfortable night-clothes. It was like deja vu, because when she stepped back out, Jasper was there, again, but this time he wasn't looking at the stars... he was looking directly at her. (Because she was the stars; she brought luminescence into his life; shining like she didn't care who else was watching, jealous; knowing how beautiful she looked━━she couldn't be compared.) She sent him a tight smile, eyes taking down to the ground quickly and awkwardly, not wanting to hold too much eye-contact with the way his eyes spoke soft words over her own.
After that exchange, it didn't take long for things to calm down, and seemingly go back to normal. There was a small television in the corner, and Jasper offered for her to pick the movie they were going to watch. (He also offered to stay until she fell asleep, so she would know everything's okay━━isn't he just the best?) Georgine picked one she had never seen before, never even heard of before, but she continued to press play. The pair of them lay comfortably across the bed, two stiff figures, unknowingly of what to do next, as their eyes only stayed glued to the screen.
It was only half way through the movie that their own voices could be heard from the room, outside.
"God, this movie's awful..."
Georgine's head snapped in Jasper's direction, an incredulous expression clear on her face, a smile playing on her lips. "What do you mean it's awful?━━how is it awful?"
Jasper looked at her, shocked that she hadn't shared the same opinion, too. "Well, it's really cheesy, to begin with. I mean, who does things like that━━you want them to fall in love with you, don't you? Not be sick over their," he did quotation marks with his fingers, "'declarations of love and adoration'."
"Well," Georgine defended, but she was still feeling playful over the matter, not taking anything too seriously, "I think some of them were kind of cute. I bet it feels somewhat nice knowing someone will go that far just to," she repeated his actions, "'declare their love and adoration'. Don't you think?"
It was silence as they stared at one another. No expressions were shared amongst them as they contemplated Georgine's thoughts. One moment led to another, and suddenly, both teens burst out laughing━━incredulous laughing. What they were arguing over was pathetically stupid, and the fact that they both had opinions of the polar opposite had only made things funnier for them. The movie continued to roll in the background, now, their laughs and happy atmospheres the only thing surrounding them, creating their hearts to flutter with pure love.
When the laughter died down, chuckles being quietly shared here and there, they eyes connected once more; gold meeting brown, mixing together freely, like they were trying to make their own beautiful colour. Seconds dwindled by, then a few minutes, as they both came to the same realisation. They began to lean in, closer and closer, eyes never disconnecting, hearts thumping (except Jasper's couldn't━━at times like this, he wished it could, so he could feel what she was feeling). Georgine's nerves were rocketing, up and down, up and down, up and down. Every time they started to increase, a force would bring them back down again, soothing them, caressing them with a calm wind. It was pacifying; it gave Georgine that final, little strand of confidence she needed.
And their lips connected.
In the stories and books Georgine reads and is told about, there is always a kiss involved that changes a person life. It's always magical, and special, and nothing like they had originally expected. Gerogine had finally gotten her fairytale kiss. It felt like sparks were igniting in her stomach, all around them in their air, as their lips entwined softly. Jasper tasted sweetly, like everything she had ever wanted in the boy she'd choose to be her forever, like sunlight, the same golden haze as his eyes, like a spotlight. And, the spotlight was on them as they shared their moment, one both of them had been craving for a while, by then.
Because, that kiss did change Georgine Brodeur's life. For when, in times to come, that kiss could occur again, it would only lead to a demise no one had been expecting, no one could have changed━━because, once the fates have decided, once Jasper's and Georgine's lifelines are weaved together as one, there is nothing that can change then.
Because, that kiss would lead to Georgine's death.
...It was the kiss of death.
NOTE.
i'm changing some things that are probably canon, deal with it :) also,,, georgine's (future) vampire power was hinted at several times during this chapter... hmm, what we thinking?? i don't mind this chapter; the interaction between georgine and her mother was exactly what i had planned. what i didn't have planned, however, was a huge spoiler at the end of this chapter. BUT, it doesn't necessarily tell you too much about what's going to happen, i don't think?? like u don't know when or how or why or (necessarily) what?? so we're gonna leave it all at that bc i wrote this in bed at 6 in the morning with nothing else to do,, and i really liked the idea of 'the kiss of death' as a chapter name :))
