Searching

"Oh, Ava," Damien says, "Have you seen Ariel?"

"Um, which one is she?" I ask.

"She's the little girl from the first century. Do you know where she is? I need to talk to her about something."

"No, I haven't seen her since she showed me how to create worlds a few days ago."

"She did What?!"

Oops. Did he not know about that?

"She knows how to make her own worlds, I guess. She showed me how she does it and then she destroyed it immediately afterward."

"Well, now I have something else to discuss with her. Anyways, can you go find her for me? I really can't leave the center of the garden right now and Aaron is busy with something else."

"Yeah, I'll go see if I can find her."

Of course she's run off. I wonder where she could have gotten off to. Maybe she finally perfected one of her worlds and went down into it.

No, she said she was going to wait. But, she wouldn't necessarily tell the truth. Maybe she just got bored and changed her mind. I hope she didn't do that. If she did, then we might never find her.

Michelle comes running up to me barking her head off.

"What is it girl? What's wrong?"

She continues to bark loudly and starts running off in the opposite direction. I chase after her. I don't know how long we run through the garden, but it seems to go on forever. Yet, I don't feel out of breath, and my legs don't burn.

Huh, that's interesting. I guess I'm not so human anymore. I mean, I guess I'm a god, but wow. I still can't get used to the idea of not being human anymore.

Michelle stops at a small fountain, this one is painted all in black. She continues to simply bark at the fountain. I kneel down and look into it. I can see a small city inside with what looks like a lake next to it.

Except, wait. The lake looks like it's pure black, and a girl just jumped into it. She's not even trying to swim or stop sinking. You can't even see her body under the water. It's like she just vanished.

Ariel must be in here. What could she have done down there? I wonder how you get into one of these.

I slowly put my hand into the water. It feels just slightly cold, but refreshing. I can feel it, pulling me in. I reach further into the water as the foreign world gets closer and closer. Soon I'm up to my shoulder in the water, but I continue to lean further forward.

Suddenly I'm falling from the sky. It only lasts seconds before I land on the ground next to the lake. I don't think I'm hurt, but for a moment I can't move or talk. After a moment I bring myself to my feet and look around.

"Ariel!" I yell, "Where are you?! Damien wants to talk to you! You better come out soon you little twerp or I swear you will regret not listening to me!"

"I'm older than you," a small voice says from the bottom of the lake.

"Are you at the bottom of the lake?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"I like it down here. It's quiet and dark and this lake sometimes kills people. It's all of my favorite things."

"Well, Damien wants to talk to you, so you better get back to the garden soon, or he'll probably be mad at you."

"What does he want?"

"I don't know. He just said to go and find you."

"What happens if I don't want to go with you," she says.

"Then I'll go and get him."

"How do you think you're going to do that if you don't even know how to get out of this world and back to the garden?"

"I can get out of here," I say.

"Okay, then do it right now. Prove me wrong," she says.

I pause for a moment. How do I get out of here?

"Ha," she laughs, "I knew you couldn't do it."

"Well, you can't get out of here either," I say.

"Yes, but I like it here. I'm not losing anything by staying. You on the other hand, probably want to go back to the garden and your dog."

Yeah, she's right. I should have thought this through better.
